I'd booked a full day tour but unfortunately due to a combination of several important Hindu festivals on the day, access to certain venues in the tour could not be completed. I was disappointed that the evening arti ceremony on the Sarayu River was cancelled by the authorities. An additional factor was that I had been expecting car transportation throughout most of the tour as had been advertised. However, car transport was only to the city limits & thereafter the only option was by foot or by motorbike. I had not been informed of this prior to booking. As it turned out I felt l pressured to take on riding pillion with the guide .. and without a helmet. Thank goodness he was a very safe driver & very helpful & patient in getting me off & on. As a result of using a motorbike, we completed all the tour itinerary (minus the venues that were closed) in 3 hours !! Given the heat & stress of day, I opted to take a much needed rest back at the hotel & asked for ride to & from a local shopping mall in the afternoon. On reflection, I think more time should have been given to exploring each of the venues in the itinerary. Additionally, the tour guide could have suggested alternative sights to make up for the venues that were closed. Finally, based on pictures of the Ram Mandir on brochures & advertising, I had been expecting seeing at least a semi-completed mandir. Instead, what I saw was a vast muddy construction site !! Nevertheless, I was satisfied that I at least was able to view the Ram Lalla & the more recent statue of Lord Rama for a minute & to experience the spiritual presence of being there. I may return again, but only when the construction is fully completed. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long.
