4 stops to get off the bus. 1 nice "lunch" with fruits and yummy date scones. Short time on inland roads, very interesting. More time on ring road which you could also do on the public bus. Good commentary, sometimes with a dry sense of humour. Maybe a touch overpriced. Confirmation of tour received 5 minutes before the bus turned up for pick-up. 4 people were no-shows, possibly because they couldn’t get in touch with anyone for four days over Easter. Not very professional for a tour company.

Takes right around island and off the beaten track interesting information about the island and the local life

Very informative tour through Rarotongas back roads past small plantations of fruit and vegetables grown by the Cook Is people. Also drove around the island looking at some historical sites and natural features . Gave us a history of Rarotonga. Knowledgable of local history and cultural points was great to learn. Lovely lunch at a Garden Cafe was lovely.

Our guide who was a local of the Cook Islands was very knowledgeable and told us so many things about the islands. He was a very friendly man.

This is a very informative experience and allows to get a better insight in real Island life. We learned a lot from this experience

A nice way to experience the local sights of Rarotonga hosted by a local guide who provided knowledge of the Islands from a heritage perspective. The refreshments were devine and plentiful. Nice small intimate group travelling in comfort.

There were 2 busses and the other bus had a polite, respectful and professional guide. Sadly ours was none of these!
The information on our bus typically consisted of a customer asking 'Where is the best place to snorkel on the island' and the APPALLING 'tourist guide's' entire response being 'the sea'. He just didn't seem to know anything helpful and got aggressive to try to cover for this. An unpleasant and BORING experience.
I learnt more from a transfer driver at my hotel in 10 minutes than in 3 hours on this 'tour'! The transfer driver was professional and respectful also.
For information 'Lunch' was some papaya, a small banana, half a scone and some communal water. All very nice but more morning tea. Stretching to a tea or coffee (even if instant) would have been appreciated.
I suggest the tour operator finds more appropriate, knowledgeable, respectful and informed 'guides'. Maybe give the driver a microphone, he was at least respectful to Customers! Anything he had to say would have been more interesting!

Kia Orana Gillian, I sincerely apologize to you and all the other guests during your Island Discovery Tour on Monday 28 July 2025. As a Tourism Company, we value our guests highly and such behavior is not accepted at all. This behavior is not to our standards and will make sure that this does not happen again. Please accept our deepest apologies. Regards

The trip was very informative and it was lovely to talk to a local. He was very knowledgeable about the island, and we enjoyed using the back road.
He was very late arriving and we had almost given up waiting.

This is a must do when visiting the Cook Islands. The most amazing scenery, the lagoon is pristine and Paul was a fantastic and witty guide that highlighted the very best Aitutaki has to offer. I would recommend this 1000 times over. What a fantastic day.

Given limited activities on Rarotonga, it was a good opportunity to see another side of the island and island life. But I wanted more - don’t mention a museum in the description and then not go to a museum. Don’t spend the bulk of the trip proselytizing. Tell me more about the history of the island, its people, how it got connected to New Zealand, etc. instead we just went around and looked at various crops, talked about his family, and ate some fruit and bread. It felt like chatting with an Uber driver rather than a set tour guide with deep knowledge of the history of the island and experience on how to share it.

Kia Orana Lawrence, thanking you for your review. That is true, and it is good to know and from my point of view, yes, what we advertise is what should be provided to our clients, it is what they are happy to see. Will discuss further on the matter to the Tour Operators. Meitaki

Ok but expensive for what it was. Drive around with talk was interesting information about the island life but we think overpriced compared to tours like Captain Tama’s
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Kia Oran Christian, much appreciated for your feedback. Will discuss further to our tour operators on this matter and stay on what we have advertised on our brochures. Please note that land tours are totally different to Lagoon Tours and that the prize is how much it will costs if you had booked for other land tours even more. Meitaki and have a blessed day

This awesome and informative definitely the tour to do if you want see the back roads and learn some culture and history. Would have liked to have seen the museum as was described but was still a great morning.

Explore inland local life, vegetation, diet, history. Great guide. Authentic experience. Sit on a comfortable bus. Prayed before meals. So nice, so Cokk islands.

It was interesting taking in the sights and learning about the island and its culture
The tour guide was great
pat_g, Feb 2025
our Guide was also the driver so it made it easy. it was a very small group. He told us the history of the islands and took us around and showed us different plantations, the different areas, villages. It was really wonderful.

Nat our guide was awesome. You can see he is passionate about his culture, his land and was a wealth of knowledge, answering all our questions. The lunch was delicious with fresh fruits and cake. A great day overall.

This tour was incredible, so much knowledge and enthusiasm to share the local experience. Our tour guides were so welcoming and friendly, we really felt like part of the family.
Bethy_R, Nov 2024
This is a great introduction to the Island and very informative. The way families work together in planting crops for themselves and tourism.
The layout of thee Island and best places to shop at markets etc. Whats happening and where to go.
Julia_W, Sep 2024
Nat was very generous with his local knowledge and insights into growing up on the Cook Islands. It was a good trip around the island and gave us our bearings, as we had arrived the day before and hadn’t been to Rarotonga before. The coconut demonstration was interesting and yummy. The fruit and cake was delicious.

Interesting tour of back roads, food gardens and notable places. History included how the missionaries brought the kingdoms on Rarotonga together, and the importance of the Christian God to the welfare of the island, a refreshing attitude to a cynical old heathen like me.
kaneswahine, Aug 2024
Informative tour guide, very entertaining ;great bus driver. Would have been nice to stop at a few more places. On the downside, the air conditioner in the bus wasn’t working and it was a hot day
Claudia_L, Jul 2024
The history of the different marae and waka and finding out the tour guides wife is related to my daughter 😁
SVETLANA_D, Jun 2024
The guide was very friendly, hospitable, positive, informative - will definitely recommend to friends!
Michael_M, May 2024
The tour was great, really enjoyed it. The trip to Black Rock & the culture behind it as well as seeing the Arai-Te-Tonga, was great to learn of its beginning. The light refreshments were excellent, with local fruits & date scones were yummy. Then finished off with the talk about the voyage of the 7 canoes towards NZ.
The guides were very knowledgeable and very welcoming.
Highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Rarotonga.
Irene_S, May 2024
Absolutely brilliant tour. Would recommend anyone coming to Raratonga does this early in their holiday - learned so much about Rarotonga, going places other than just the beach, small tour group (7 in ours), delicious morning tea in beautiful gardens, and a great guide.
Thirumala_P, Apr 2024
Got the ground level tour experience of Rarotonga - totally enjoyed the free flowing conversation and the historical reference points throughout the whole tour. In April (2024) - not many fruit trees in blossom but enjoyed seeing the agricultural; the locals wood-carving; the day-to-day living of Rarotongans.
Gail_D, Mar 2024
An absolutely amazing experience. Our guide was humorous and made the outing extremely enjoyable and memorable. We learnt about the cultural significance of different sites. There were only four of us in a well conditioned mini van. We were provided with a light lunch and delivered safe and sound back to our accommodation. Highest rating deserved
Mahn_R, Oct 2023
I thought this would be a tour bus with several other passengers, but it was just us, in the back of a nice minivan, being taken around the island with full commentary from a local guide who knew a lot about the island. Lunch was a nice touch. We took this tour on our first day to help get our bearings and he was able to answer all our questions. Gave us a few ideas on what to do and where to go. We did not go to the museum tho, which the tickets said we would, but I didn't mind as I wasn't much interested in the museum.

What a lovely experience and extra special as I was the only one booked on this tour but they still took me anyway. Apart from seeing the inland road and the stops mentioned in the tour information, this was my first experience of Cook Island hospitality and I was super impressed. Throughout my stay I had a wonderful time but I must say that the warmth and hospitality of everyone I met was the best highlight. What wonderful warm and generous people the Cook Islanders are and my two tour guides on this excursion where amongst the best. Throughly recommend this tour to get your bearings and just to have a lovely time. Enjoy!
