Driving over the sand dunes down to an almost deserted beach as the sun was coming down was a memorable way of properly enjoying our first day in Morocco.
And the young lad, about 18, who took myself and my partner on our quad biking adventure did really well with us in spite of not being able to speak English. He took plenty of photos and videos in the midst of our ride, and he was genuinely good at taking care of us and being as sociable and kind as he could in spite of the language barrier.
However, there were sadly other things that marred the experience.
Firstly, our taxi driver hassled us for future trips and taxi rides in spite of us organising everything in advance. He was even trying to sell us a pre bought big bottle of water that we couldn’t have taken with us anyway ‘because you will be out in the desert and you’ll need it’. No we didn’t.
There’s also a period of time when you’re just riding up a tarmaced road on the quad bike. Ok, but not ‘fun’.
At the end we were taken to an elder guy’s place in the little village for mint tea. He also didn’t speak any European language we knew. We didn’t want the tea, but we were abruptly given it. Then we were just left alone for a number of minutes before we had to ask to leave.
We had already tipped the young guy who took us on the quad biking adventure really well because actually he was worth it. There were times we might have liked to go a bit faster but he was obviously trying to look after us and he really was a nice guy who enjoyed what he did and we felt very comfortable with him.
So we left a smaller tip at the mint tea place because it just wasn’t anything nice or special at all. Then we obviously made the older guy unhappy who was clearly telling us off/asking for more even though we still left a few quid with him.
Then it was made obvious the taxi driver hadn’t made as much that day because there’s only two of you and they’ve had to wait around for a an hour and a half, so you tip him too.
On top of that, the tour organiser WhatsApp video called me at 2am and messaged me, accidentally, the day we flew to Morocco, waking me up in the middle of the night when we already had to be up at 4 to catch our flight, Then they messaged us very late in the evening, a couple of hours after our trip ended, when we were out at dinner, hassling us for a favourable review.
I understand the need to make money out of tourists, but the constant hard sell didn’t go down so well with us.
It’s a real shame because there was a part of the trip that was actually really enjoyable.

Many thanks for your very detailed review, we welcome all comments negative or positive to enable us to improve our service to our clients.
Firstly, sincere apologies for the accidental call from our guide, this was purely an error on his part.
We are happy you enjoyed the majority of your quad experience with us & thank you very much for pointing out your concerns with the taxi transportation & the Tea provider.
Unfortunately here in Morocco tourists are often badgered & we do our best to not allow this, on occasion we use new providers & a few can slip through the net.
Due to your review we will not in future be using the taxi driver or the tea stop, we have many many other drivers & tea stops & we do not allow pestering of any kind or we simply will not use people that do this again. Thank you so much for highlighting this.
I am not sure if you are still in Morocco, if you are I would very much like to offer you a compliment activity by way of an apology.
Again, I am happy that you enjoyed the majority of your quad experience & sincere apologies that these two operatives pestered you.
