Meetup at the port was fine. Then our "guide" who was really just a wrangler hearded us onto the bus and then left without any explanation of what was going on. The bus driver then took off for our 30 min trip to Pompei, which included no narrative. At Pompei, our real guide (Daniella) met us and gave us a great walking tour for the next 2.5 hrs. Unfortunately, Viator/ tour providers do a consistently bad job explaining the level of difficulty for anyone with any mobility challenge. My wife uses a cane and made it through the first 15 min of the tour before giving up. I'm pretty much done using Viator for any event she will participate in.
The actual Pompeii tour was very good. Tour guide Francesco was an excellent guide. Friendly, funny and informative. The only issue for me was that we didn't have a guide with us during the bus rides, and we had to wait for the driver for the return trip, past the agreed to meeting time.

Perfect tour! We were promptly promptly picked up at the dock in a luxury bus. Our guide met us once we got to Pompeii. Francesco was an amazing guide. He was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun! I highly recommend this tour!
We had a great tour with our local guide. He was born in Pompeii and has a genuine love for the site. Francesco was entertaining and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour.
Pompeii is a must-see and having a knowledgeable tour guide was extremely helpful. Our guide provided a very good insight into life in Pompeii as well as the history. However, expect a bit of a chaotic experience during peak season. Keeping our guide in sight was challenging and crowds made it difficult to see everything. And for anyone with mobility problems, be prepared for very uneven walking surfaces, stairs and hills to walk up. Unfortunately we were at the site during a thunderstorm so our experience was not the norm. We ended up taking cover in one of the snack bars for part of the tour. Overall, it was worth the price and a once in a lifetime experience- just be prepared for the crowds.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke very good English. We were able so see all of the highlights and our guide knows the site cold! I would highly recommend this tour!
Our guide Teresa who lives on Mt Vesuvius was extremely knowledgeable about all things Pompei. Well worth the price. Informative about time period and all questions answered that were asked.
Just be aware that this experience is pretty chaotic. You will go on a big bus to Pompeii from the cruise port and the tour guides meet you in a parking lot. Getting into was easy and you will have a headset to hear the guide, but if anyone in your group has issues walking/getting around, it will slow you down. The tour seemed very short and at the end the tour guide basically just said, be back to the bus by 1230 and that was it. So if you wanted to explore a bit more on your own, you couldn't b/c you wouldn't have a ride back. And they were going to give us a snack and a water but instead of letting us eat it on the ride back they gave it to us once we got back to the port and it was cold. I'd recommend doing a private tour instead with a little more flexibility/time to explore the whole city without be affected by others and/or the timeframe.

Group Size & Guidance: The maximum group size is clearly stated on the tour booking page. All our Pompeii guides are licensed archaeologists who dedicate the full 2.5 hours to explaining the site's rich history and answering questions. Stating that the guide only said "be back by 12:30" does not reflect the extensive, expert commentary provided throughout the visit.
Itinerary & Cruise Ship Schedule: This tour is specifically designed as a seamless shore excursion without dedicated free time, ensuring that guests return to the cruise port well before ship departure. Free time inside the ruins is omitted deliberately to avoid any risk of missing your cruise.
Complimentary Refreshment: The snack and water are offered as a complimentary gesture of hospitality. The food items provided for this tasting are traditional local specialties intended to be enjoyed at room temperature/cold, and we regret that a complimentary courtesy was viewed negatively.
As you noted, a private tour offers maximum personal flexibility and a custom pace, though at a significantly higher price point. Our group shore excursion is tailored to provide an affordable, expert-guided experience with guaranteed on-time return to your ship.

Really interesting excursion and our guide Esthera was excellent. Everything was very smooth, from finding the meeting point at the port to meeting up with our guide. Pompeii is huge so time only permitted us to see part of it but it was still very impressive. Highly recommend this tour.
We had no guide on our bus ride from the meeting point to Pompeii. No one pointed out the important 8 drive-by spots that were advertised. Once we got to Pompeii, our guide, Esthera was very knowledgeable and personable and gave us a great tour.

Regarding the bus journey, we would like to clarify that, as clearly stated in our tour description, the segment between Naples and Pompeii is strictly a transfer service. No onboard guide or commentary along the route is included or advertised on our booking page. The guided portion of the service begins exclusively upon arrival at the archaeological site with our licensed archaeologist guide.

Everything was perfect, easy meeting point for all boat passengers. Estera was a marvelous guide! Excellent English, great knowledge of history and caring for her group!
Tour was very good, lots of history. You get to see what life was like in Pompeii before and after the volcano. Difficult walking with lots stairs, stone paved roads and walkways.
Very interesting and informative trip. Learnt so much as was led by an ex-archaeologist who had had a career working on the site. Would like to go back to see more.
I didn’t realize that the tour would both be in English and Spanish. I was thinking that there would be an English tour and a Spanish tour. It was very hard to to understand the English and then you lost focus when the tour guide was in Spanish. With the switching between both languages, you missed a lot of what was being explained. The tour guide did her best, but would not recommend this tour if it continues to be in both languages.

This destination was a bucket list place to visit. It was my first tour off a cruise ship I've done independently and was apprehensive it'll go well. I need not worry. The communication with the company, pick up point all worked out fine. There was an issue with the bus and we had to wait for another but all sorted and off we went. Our local guide in Pompeii was incredible. He was born and raised around Pompeii and had lots of stories and inside knowledge. It was hot!! Not many places with shade but my goodness it was fascinating. That there is even more still covered is amazing. Walking the same streets and entering houses with beautiful frescos on the wall is incredible. A good 2 and half hours here was a good time. Picked up and dropped back at the ship. Bucket list ticked off
Really impressive guide, Imma,who was an archeologist. This is a must see when visiting Naples. Tour operator with bus was hard to find as our ship wasn't docked close by so we had to power walk for 20 minutes to get to the meeting point. Not impressed with this so if booking off of a cruise, make sure you check Google maps before leaving the ship
We took a bus from the cruise terminal to Pompeii. We had a little difficulty finding the meeting spot and thankfully the tour operator waited for us. We were taken by bus to Pompeii which was about 40 minutes. The tour itself was 2&1/2 hours. Our tour guide was excellent. I cannot recall her name but she was very knowledgeable and made the tour very enjoyable. We asked her to recommend an authentic pizzeria in Naples and we found it without any difficulty and it was the best Margarita pizza we have ever had. For the excursion in Pompeii I would recommend good walking shoes and a bottle for water. There were free fountains inside the ruins to refill water bottle. I would recommend this tour.

This is a really interesting experience. Our guide was Francesco was so knowledgeable, he made the Pompaii story come alive.
Walking shoes are definately needed and water to hydrate especially if you choose this tour in the summer months. Fantastic value, for all you see and learn.
Got picked up at the Port and had a lovely 30min, AC, bus trip to Pompeii. Met our tour guild Arianna, who was so informative and had fantastic English. Spent about 1.45hr on site, and about 30mins feee time, before we got picked up for our return journey. Highly recommend this tour.

Check your ticket actually includes port pick up and drop off if travelling from cruise.
The Pompeii tour was great just prepare for a lot of walking I suggest you dress cool and bring water we did not do any of the pass by spots that were mention on this site . I was disappointed about that next time I will do an excursion that let me see more of Naples. FYI the meeting spot they send you is from about 2019 that place doesn’t exist anymore. They need an updated pic.

Scope of the Excursion: Please note that this product is exclusively a Pompeii archaeological tour; a city tour of Naples is not included in the itinerary.
Meeting Point: Our meeting location is completely active and valid. While the local venue at that address recently updated its signage, the physical location and meeting instructions remain accurate and unchanged.

We had initially booked on to the earlier tour and moved to the later time which not a huge issue. On arrival the person was not the most welcoming. We finally left to get on the coach 15 minutes later than scheduled. On boarding it became clear the tour was over booked. She had asked 2 people if they were ok to sit on the steps, pretty sure insurance would not cover this if anything happened. She then asked my child if they would mind sharing 1 seat with another child and their parent which I had said this is not possible or safe, she then proceeded to tell me not this is not her problem and the companies. She then spoke to the company and then booted off 2 people as they had only confirmed their booking in the morning. She then spent another 20 minutes on the phone so approx 60 people now waiting on the coach and delayed. Rather than just letting the coach go and dealing with the issue independently.
We then arrived and the tour guide who greeted us called it a technical issue! The groups was divided in 2 so around 32 people in each group. As it was such a large group we were out of range with the audio many times. This is the worst experience I have had with a tour via viator. If we did not have the initial issues and group was smaller would have been much better.

Furthermore, as a licensed operator, we strictly abide by European transport laws and safety regulations. We never overbook vehicles, nor do we ever allow passengers to sit on bus steps or share seats.
Check-In Incident: The delay at departure was caused by two unregistered individuals who attempted to board the vehicle without a valid reservation. Our staff had to intervene immediately to remove these unauthorized persons from the coach before departure to ensure full compliance with legal seating limits and passenger safety. This necessary security procedure was unfortunately misinterpreted as overbooking.
Audio Equipment: Our audio systems are checked regularly to ensure clear communication. However, in large open-air archaeological sites like Pompeii, staying within a reasonable proximity of the guide ensures optimal signal reception.
We take safety and legal standards very seriously and appreciate the opportunity to clarify the facts of this departure.

Well organised experience direct from port. Guided tour is recommended to really bring pompei to life.
The tour guide was positive and knowledgeable. It was extremely hot that day and we had a couple people who could not keep up. Make sure you are carrying water and are ready for keeping pace. It would not have felt strenuous if it were not that hot but make sure you are prepared to do stairs and lots of uneven ground. These are ruins! :)
The trip was easy to book and meeting instructions were straightforward. Greeted warmly and very efficient transfer to Pompeii. Out tour guide was Arianna and she was very knowledgeable and very friendly, with the ability to speak in several languages. Tour was fascinating and good value for money. Highly recommended.
