It's a lot of walking and it's hot. Other than that it was great. Awesome sight to visit. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and moved at a good pace. Was aware of those that needed extra time. She also provided time for photos, but bathroom breaks and water. Overall it was a good experience would use Viator again.

The trip was easy to book and meeting instructions were straightforward. Greeted warmly and very efficient transfer to Pompeii. Out tour guide was Arianna and she was very knowledgeable and very friendly, with the ability to speak in several languages. Tour was fascinating and good value for money. Highly recommended.

    Don’t bother group too large

    Manpreet_S, Aug 2026
We had initially booked on to the earlier tour and moved to the later time which not a huge issue. On arrival the person was not the most welcoming. We finally left to get on the coach 15 minutes later than scheduled. On boarding it became clear the tour was over booked. She had asked 2 people if they were ok to sit on the steps, pretty sure insurance would not cover this if anything happened. She then asked my child if they would mind sharing 1 seat with another child and their parent which I had said this is not possible or safe, she then proceeded to tell me not this is not her problem and the companies. She then spoke to the company and then booted off 2 people as they had only confirmed their booking in the morning. She then spent another 20 minutes on the phone so approx 60 people now waiting on the coach and delayed. Rather than just letting the coach go and dealing with the issue independently. We then arrived and the tour guide who greeted us called it a technical issue! The groups was divided in 2 so around 32 people in each group. As it was such a large group we were out of range with the audio many times. This is the worst experience I have had with a tour via viator. If we did not have the initial issues and group was smaller would have been much better.

Well Organised Tour straight from Port

    Stuart_G, Aug 2026
Well organised experience direct from port. Guided tour is recommended to really bring pompei to life.

    Good value.

    Carla_G, Jul 2026
The tour guide was positive and knowledgeable. It was extremely hot that day and we had a couple people who could not keep up. Make sure you are carrying water and are ready for keeping pace. It would not have felt strenuous if it were not that hot but make sure you are prepared to do stairs and lots of uneven ground. These are ruins! :)

Francisco was very knowledgeable & entertaining! I walked away with much more information than I expected. Thank you for such a well planned tour!

    We really enjoyed this...

We really enjoyed this experience. Our guide Daniella was extremely knowledgeable about Pompeii and really enhanced our experience. A guide was essential to get the best out of Pompeii.

    Might be a scam?

    Rae_G, Jul 2026
The directions on how to find them were terrible. This is for cruisers, but they don't meet you right at the port like most tour operators, which you don't realize until you get there. We asked multiple staff at the port how to get there, and everyone pointed to me to the same place based on the address, which turned out not to be the meeting place. I called Viator since the tour operator did not provide on site contact information. Viator reached the tour operator who then called me and said she would call me back in 5 minutes. By the time she called me back and explained where to go, it was too late and they had left without us. The most frustrating part is that I must have walked past where they claimed to be 3 times and never saw anyone with a sign. I had suspected that might be the place, which is why I had walked past there 3 times, and had asked someone who worked at the food stand they supposedly meet in front of, and they even said I was in the wrong place based on the meet up address and pointed me elsewhere. This may have been a scam. To "make up for it" Viator credited back $132 out of $472. Lesson learned for me to pass along - we wound up hiring a taxi driver at the port which cost 200Euros for 4 people. He dropped us off, waited for us the whole time, and made a stop for us to pick up food on the way back. We paid only 20 Euros/pp at the entrance, and spent about 8 euros on audio guides. I highly recommend that cheaper option. It could have been even cheaper if we took a 50 euro cab there and then the same back and didn't have the taxi driver wait, but we were scared we wouldn't find a taxi and needed to make sure we got back before the boat.

    Response from Host, Jul 2026

Dear Rae_G, Accusing a company of running a "scam" is a very serious allegation. We categorically reject this statement, as it is completely false and does not reflect the way we operate. Unfortunately, your review was posted under a nickname, and after personally checking our booking records, we have been unable to identify any customer matching your Tripadvisor username among any of our tours over the past month. For this reason, we are unable to verify the circumstances you describe. We therefore invite you to contact us directly with your full name, booking reference, and the phone number associated with your reservation so that we can investigate your case thoroughly. Our procedures are very clear: the meeting point is clearly stated in the booking confirmation and voucher, and before departure our coordinators make every reasonable effort to contact missing guests by both phone call and WhatsApp. Whenever operationally possible, departures are also delayed to allow late-arriving guests to reach the group while respecting the other passengers who arrived on time. Your review also refers to audio guides. However, our Pompeii excursion does not include audio guides. We provide a licensed Archaeological Guide who conducts a live guided visit inside the archaeological site. The experience also includes round-trip private coach transportation, a certified Tour Leader, and pre-booked skip-the-line entrance tickets. Finally, we find it difficult to accept an overall judgment of the quality of the tour from someone who states that they did not actually participate in it. Every day, thousands of guests complete this experience and share their feedback based on the tour itself, allowing future travelers to make informed decisions. If you choose not to provide the information necessary to identify your booking, we can only conclude that we are not being given the opportunity to verify the facts. In those circumstances, your review may reasonably appear intended to damage our reputation rather than describe a genuine customer experience. We remain available to review your case immediately upon receipt of your booking details and look forward to resolving the matter based on verified facts. Best regards, Camilla

    Good tour; bad meetup instructions

    Eliza_L, Jul 2026
The tour at Pompeii itself was really good. The guide was clear and headphones were provided so we can slightly wander around. It was a hot day and she brought us to some shade when she could. The only comment I have for the operator itself, is to UPDATE THE MEETING POINT. I was using Google and it says to meet at Snack Bar Meeting point which I couldnt find cause that area was under construction. Instead the meetup point was now Bar Picnic. It took us a while to find the meetup spot unfortunately. Also the bus AC was not hot enough.

    Great tour guide with...

    Marisol_S, Jul 2026
Great tour guide with knowledge of the area and history. Highly recommended to anyone coming to Naples on a cruise.

Unsigned pick up point but excellent guide nice Pompeii tour

    Sanjay_S, Jul 2026
The pick‑up point was very hard to find—no signboard, and unmarked landmark of snack bar took 30 minutes to locate. A clear sign board and better landmark description would help tourists coming out of the area. There is no sign of snack bar from where cruise travellers are coming out and passing by. The good part: the bus was comfortable, and Frank, our Pompeii guide, was excellent and conducted the tour very well. 30 minutes inside Pompeii could have made visit even better instead of waiting outside near cafeteria

Great time book ended by bad experiences with Viator

    Jared_M, Jul 2026
This tour was successful and enjoyable. Pompeii was excellent. We didn't do anything but Pompeii, and I thought we were supposed to at least drive by some other sites, but if we did they didn't let us know. And because I got scammed out of two other tours on either end of this one, I can't give a good rating. I do not plan to use Viator again and would not reccomend them to anyone.

    Response from Host, Jul 2026

Dear Jared, Thank you for your feedback regarding your visit to Pompeii. We are genuinely glad to hear that you found the tour successful, enjoyable, and that your experience at the site was excellent. However, we were very saddened to see your low rating. In your review, you explicitly mentioned that the low score was due to being scammed on two other tours on either end of ours, and because of your frustration with the booking platform. We completely understand your anger and disappointment about those bad experiences, but those tours were operated by entirely different companies, not by us. By leaving a low rating on our page, you are unfortunately penalizing our local company, our dedicated guide, and the whole team who worked hard to ensure your day in Pompeii went perfectly. Since you had a great experience with us, we kindly ask if you would be open to either removing this review or updating the rating to reflect only the service we actually provided you. It would mean a lot to our team and help protect our business from unfair penalties. Thank you very much for your understanding and time. Best regards,

    Bery efficient pick up...

Very efficient pick up from the harbour and then onto air conditioned bus transport to Pompeii. From their seamless guide around Pompeii with a very informative and fun tour guide. Recommend it to anyone.

    Pompeii excursion.

    Veronica_F, Jul 2026
Pompeii is a fantastic place to visit full of history. Our guide was excellent had great humour and full of knowledge. I would recommend this trip to all.

    Great tour! Highly recommend

    Kenneth_A, Jul 2026
The trip was well organized and the tour guide was excellent. I highly recommend this tour. We booked this tour so far in advance that I forgot to refresh my memory as to the meeting place (Viator provided the info I just didn’t read the details) Anyway, my error caused us to miss our assigned time but the operator at Viator communicated with is directly and reassigned us to a later tour. Great customer service even when something was our mistake. Definitely worth taking the time to see Pompeii.

    They were trying to add...

    melinda_k, Jul 2026
They were trying to add on people at the meet up spot. We were late to leave. The meeting spot is hard to find go towards the Bar Pizzeria sign in the right of the port exit. Would ask for a refund and find another company to book through. Regretting our choice.

    Response from Host, Jul 2026

Dear Melinda Kern, Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify what happened during your tour to provide a complete and accurate picture. First, we apologize for the 15-minute delay at departure. As this tour is specifically tailored for cruise passengers, we chose to wait a few extra minutes for a few guests whose arrival was slightly delayed, preventing them from missing the experience entirely. This is a courtesy we extend to everyone, as we know how stressful tight cruise schedules can be. However, we must emphasize that this slight delay did not impact your tour experience in any way. All tour timings were strictly respected, including the full 2.5-hour guided tour inside Pompeii led by a professional archaeologist. It is quite surprising that your review focuses entirely on a 15-minute departure delay while completely ignoring the core and most valuable part of the experience—the high-quality, expert-led visit to the ruins. Furthermore, we ensured that everyone was brought back to the ship perfectly on time and with total peace of mind. While we always strive for punctuality, we believe that an act of flexibility toward fellow travelers does not justify such a harsh and negative review, especially when the quality and duration of the service were fully delivered. Best regards, Davide

    Great tour

    Heather_H, Jul 2026
This was a nice tour. Our tour guide spoke English and was very knowledgeable about Pompeii. Very interesting!

    Great guide

    Ronald_Z, Jul 2026
Estera was a great guide! She was very knowledgeable and patiently answered all questions. She frequently made sure our group of 30 was all together. Coach bus was comfortable and air-conditioned.

NOT worth it! Book a private tour instead.

    Britni_T, Jul 2026
There are a ton of people on this tour so don’t expect a small group. The bus ride over was a bit terrifying bc the drivers in Naples are crazy! Once we got to the Pompeii entrance we were split into two groups (English and Spanish). When we got inside, the guide told us to use the restroom as it was our last chance to go. My daughter and I went and when we got out, the guide left us! We were lost inside Pompeii and missed the first half hour of the tour until we finally found them. It was extremely hot too with little shade. Once we finished the tour, we had to wait quite a while for the bus and then got stuck in traffic. We all ended up abandoning the bus and had to walk 25 minutes back to the cruise port. I would strongly suggest booking a private tour instead!

    Response from Host, Jul 2026

Dear Britni, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We always aim to provide a smooth experience for our guests, and we would like to clarify a few points regarding your tour. First, regarding the group size, our tour description does not state that this is a "small group" excursion. However, to ensure the best possible experience, we specifically split the large bus group into two smaller groups (English and Spanish) before entering the ruins. For your tour, you were divided into groups of 25 people. Since the official maximum capacity allowed per guide inside Pompeii is 35 people, your group was actually well below the limit, ensuring compliance with archaeological site regulations. We are truly sorry to hear about the situation at the restrooms. There must have been a misunderstanding with the guide regarding the timing, as our guides are always instructed to keep the group together. We sincerely regret that you and your daughter missed the beginning of the tour because of this. Lastly, regarding the decision to leave the bus at the end of the day, this was due to an extraordinary traffic gridlock in Naples that completely blocked vehicle circulation. Our team had to make a quick logistical decision: keeping everyone on the bus would have meant sitting in traffic indefinitely, creating a severe risk of you missing your cruise ship's departure. Letting you walk the remaining 25 minutes was the safest and quickest way to guarantee you made it back to the port on time—and we believe you would agree that catching your ship was the absolute priority. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for choosing our services. Best regards, Davide

Late start on a very hot day

    Shannon_J, Jun 2026
The meeting point was confusing. Had the actual name of the snack bar been provided, tourists could have located it easier. The tour was supposed to begin at 830. The bus was very late and we did not board the bus until 8:57. It’s extremely hot in Naples. Beyond frustrating!! Also our tour was only supposed to be 35 people. We were at least 60 or 70. Hard to keep up with the one small yellow sign.

    Response from Host, Jun 2026

Dear Shannon, Thank you for your feedback. While we appreciate all guest reviews, we must firmly clarify the facts regarding your excursion, as your statements do not accurately reflect our operating standards. Group Size: You stated that the group consisted of 60 or 70 people. This is factually incorrect and logistically impossible. We strictly adhere to safety regulations, legal vehicle capacities, and quality standards, which cap our groups at the maximum size advertised on our page. We have never operated a single tour group of 70 people. It is highly likely you confused our total morning departures at the port hub with your actual assigned group. Meeting Point Instructions: Our meeting point description does not rely solely on a text description; it includes precise geographic coordinates and a direct map link. This spot is a major, highly visible hub specifically chosen to make the transition from the cruise terminal as seamless as possible for thousands of passengers. Punctuality: Our shore excursions operate on tight, synchronized schedules tailored to cruise ship disembarkation times. While minor delays can occasionally happen due to the standard port security flow, our buses depart promptly to guarantee that all guests return to the docks well ahead of their ship's departure. We take pride in our organization and the transparency of our product descriptions, and we always ensure our guests receive the exact service they booked. Best regards, Davide

    Pompeii tour

    Alyssa_P, Jun 2026
Our female guide was wonderful! She was so accommodating and could answer all the questions we had. She tried her best to get us through seeing as much as we could in the short time we had. 2 hours for a tour was much too short and it made it so much worse we had to wait over 30 minutes for people to use the bathroom. It was upsetting to not see everything that was on our “pass by” itinerary. We were looking forward to seeing the plaster casts and brothels but time didn’t accommodate. We also had no time to look at things in the gift shop. The bus was organized as well as our tour guide meeting us exactly where they said they would be. The audio ear pieces were great to have because it was so extremely crowded and loud

    Disorganized

    Tracy_Z, Jun 2026
Very disorganized… we got put on a bus with no air conditioning. Every seat was taken. Then we were dropped off in a parking lot. We stood around for 15 mins with no one knowing anything. When we went inside the building to ask, it was a restaurant. We asked the man on the parking lot and he had no idea. Everyone started calling the service number because felt stranded. Finally our guide shows up. He was knowledgeable but definitely not interesting or entertaining in the least. Very dry and boring. Then we were told to be back at the drop off location by 1:30. My son and I arrive back there at 1:24 to see the bus driving away. Not only did they leave early, but they didn’t notice 2 empty seats! Luckily a man made the woman pull over a few blocks away and he ran back to get us because he saw us standing in the parking lot. When I told the driver she left early, she just laughed! All of this after I find out the other excursion was canceled.

    Response from Host, Jun 2026

Dear Tracy Zak, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We would like to clarify a few points regarding your excursion. First, our meeting point at the Naples Port is situated directly on the mandatory exit path from the cruise terminal; it is highly visible and clearly signaled, and we always provide exact Google Maps coordinates in the voucher to make it as straightforward as possible. Regarding the bus, the AC was fully functional, but due to the extreme summer heatwave and a full vehicle, the perceived temperature can unfortunately feel higher near the windows. Regarding Pompeii, the parking lot by the restaurant is the mandatory drop-off zone for all tour buses. We sincerely apologize for the 15-minute coordination gap before your guide arrived, and we have shared your comments about the tour delivery with him. Most importantly, we deeply regret that the bus departed slightly ahead of schedule without a proper headcount check, and we are very grateful to the passenger who alerted the driver. It was this young driver's very first time on this specific itinerary, and she unfortunately lacked the experience to smoothly handle the timing and passenger coordination. We have already addressed this communication gap with our logistics team to improve our headcount procedures. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and wish you and your son the best in your future travels. Best regards, Davide

    Our tour guide was...

    LAURA_O, Jun 2026
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. His way of explaining things was easy to follow and very interesting.

    Unorganized

    Peter_S, Jun 2026
Difficult to find the meeting point. The person at the meeting point only took the group to the bus and didn't know anything about the tour and didn't ride with the bus to the site. The bus driver (very friendly) didn't speak any English and didn't know anything about the tour either, not even what time to pick up the group afterwards. Driver dropped the group off at a restaurant parking lot close to Pompeii and left. Tour guide didn't show up for at least 30 min. Nice guy but very reserved and didn't accompany the group back to the parking lot after he was finished. Short 1.5 hour tour. Terribly unorganized. Can't recommend this one.

    Response from Host, Jun 2026

Dear Peter Schubert, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We would like to address the specific points you raised to clarify the logistics and organization of this excursion. First, regarding the meeting point at Naples Port, it is situated directly in front of the cruise terminal, which is the mandatory exit path for all cruise passengers disembarking the ships. To ensure it is as straightforward as possible, we always provide a precise Google Maps link and the exact name of the location in the booking voucher. Regarding our staff roles, we would like to clarify that the person at the port is a meeting point coordinator, whose sole responsibility is to check in guests and escort them to their vehicle, not to act as a tour guide or travel on the bus. Similarly, the bus driver is responsible exclusively for safe transportation. It was this young driver's very first time on this specific itinerary; while she was very friendly, she unfortunately lacked the experience to smoothly handle customer questions outside of her driving duties. We have already addressed this with our transport team. Regarding the drop-off, the parking lot near the restaurant/site is the standard, mandatory area where all commercial tour buses must park in Pompeii. Our staff always coordinates to meet the groups there, and we regret the communication gap that caused a delay before your guide arrived. Regarding the tour itself, we must clarify that the guided tour inside Pompeii lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes, exactly as advertised in our product description. It is standard practice for archaeological guides to conclude their service at the end of the historical route inside the ruins, leaving guests the freedom to spend a few minutes at the site or walk back to the parking lot independently for departure. We take all feedback seriously to refine our seasonal operations and team coordination, and we wish you the best in your future travels. Best regards, Davide

    Not What We Were Expecting

    GASTON_C, Jun 2026
Very poorly organized excursion. Directions to meeting point were unclear and we needed to contact provider for further clarification. Got loaded on a bus and dropped off in a parking lot with no other information. Several people contacted the provider and we were told that a guide was on his way. Tour itself was not very well organized. Tour guide was difficult to understand and was describing certain highlights while half the group could not see what he was describing to the group. Bus driver left 2 people behind and needed to be told by the group. She stopped and one of the group had to run back to get the 2 people that had been left behind. Only positive in my mind is that Pompei is an incredible site. Don’t waste your money on this tour.

    Response from Host, Jun 2026

Dear GASTON COULOMBE, Thank you for your review. We would like to address the specific points you raised to clarify the internal and external factors that affected your day, as we did for other participants on the same departure. First, regarding the meeting point at the Naples Port, we are surprised you found the directions unclear. The spot is located directly in front of the cruise terminal, which is the mandatory exit path for all cruise passengers disembarking the ships. To make it as straightforward as possible, we always provide a precise Google Maps link and the exact name of the location in the booking voucher. Regarding the logistics and the departure mishap, we sincerely apologize. This was the very first time on this specific itinerary for our young driver. While she is fully licensed and qualified to drive, she unfortunately lacked the experience needed to handle customer communication and manage the passenger count smoothly during unexpected situations outside of driving. We have already addressed this with our transportation team to prevent it from ever happening again. Regarding the drop-off at the parking lot, this is the standard, mandatory area where all commercial tour buses must park in Pompeii. Our staff always coordinates to meet the groups there, and we regret if there was a brief communication gap before your guide arrived. Lastly, concerning the tour itself, Pompeii is an immense and crowded archaeological site, especially during the peak summer season. Our guides try their best to position large groups in spots where everyone can see, but due to the narrow Roman streets and the heavy flow of other independent tourists, visibility can sometimes be temporarily obstructed for those at the back of the group. We are glad that, despite these logistical hiccups, you found Pompeii to be an incredible site. We take all feedback seriously to refine our seasonal operations, and we wish you the best in your future travels. Best regards, Davide

    A tour to skip.

    Kimberly_C, Jun 2026
We met and boarded a non-luxury/non-air conditioned bus. The bus left us in a parking lot with no directions on where to go or who we were meeting. Guide showed up late and was coughing entire time. Difficult to hear through the headphones as he spoke very quietly and was coughing. Tour was about 2 hours with 30 minutes to grab a bite and get back to the parking lot to board the same bus (still no a/c). We took off, and passengers noticed that the driver left behind 2 people (one was a child). Driver stopped and a passenger ran to get them and bring them to the bus. The lack of communication and inaccurate tour description are disappointing. Find a different tour. Do not book this one.

    Response from Host, Jun 2026

Dear Kimberly Christy, Thank you for your review. We would like to address the specific points you raised to clarify the internal and external factors that affected your day. First, regarding the bus temperature, Europe is currently going through record-breaking summer heatwaves. The air conditioning system on the bus was fully operational and running at its maximum setting. However, when a coach is completely full and the intense summer sun beats directly through the large windows, the perceived indoor temperature can unfortunately feel much warmer, despite the AC working as it should. Regarding the logistics and the departure mishap, we sincerely apologize. This was the very first time on this specific itinerary for our young female driver. While she is fully licensed and qualified to drive, she unfortunately lacked the experience needed to handle customer communication and manage the passenger count smoothly during unexpected situations outside of driving. We have already addressed this with our transportation team to prevent it from ever happening again. We would also like to spend a word regarding your comments about our guide. While we understand that a low voice can be frustrating, it is really not fair or kind to penalize a professional guide simply because they happen to be coughing or feeling unwell. Our staff works incredibly hard under challenging weather conditions to deliver the tour, and health issues can happen to anyone. Lastly, regarding the drop-off at the parking lot, this is the standard, mandatory area where all commercial tour buses must park in Pompeii. Our staff always coordinates to meet the groups there, and we regret if there was a brief communication gap before your guide arrived. We take all feedback seriously to refine our seasonal operations, and we wish you the best in your future travels. Best regards,

Francesco was an excellent guide, demonstrating extensive knowledge of Pompeii's detailed history, including its archaeological significance, daily life in ancient times, and the volcanic eruption that buried the city. Highly recommend this tour for a comprehensive and insightful experience.

It was a great view of Pompeii; however I think going on a week day may make is less crowded. It was a very busy day!

    Amazing

    Krystal_T, Jun 2026
Really interesting tour. The site is so well preserved. Make sure you bring some water, though. It is hot out there!

    Fun Tour!

    Nic_F, Jun 2026
The experience itself was great and our tour guide of Pompeii was amazing. The company seemed out of sorts with travel to and from Pompeii and we ended up leaving 30 minutes late but other than that it was a great time.

    Not to be missed

    Neil_R, Jun 2026
Great trip, fantastic guide in Pompeii - Francesco who was very engaging, informative, as an ex archaeologist from Pompeii very knowledgeable and to cap it off had a good sense of humour. The only downside was the information regarding the initial meeting point which was very vague. It needs to be more specific as we took nearly 30 mins to find the tour representative and 1 person missed the tour as was unable to locate the group Other than this one issue was a great and not to be missed trip
