Pastel da Nata baking class
This an enjoyable way to break up a busy trip and learn how to make a very popular dessert specific to Portugal. We don't kake often, but will definitely be making these when we return home. Our instructor Vanessa was great. She kept everyone informed, entertained, and engaged. Great way to meet people from many different backgrounds! Highly recommend!

We had an absolutely...
We had an absolutely amazing experience with Tania and Tomas! They were the most wonderful, welcoming, and hospitable hosts, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Their warmth, passion for Portuguese cuisine, and genuine love for sharing their culture made this experience truly special and authentic.
We prepared incredible traditional dishes, including a delicious cod cake empanada with Portuguese sausage, followed by a heavenly Portuguese French toast dessert topped with a port wine reduction. Every bite was amazing!
What made this experience so memorable was not just the food, but the hospitality, stories, and personal touches that Tania and Tomas brought to the class. It felt less like a cooking lesson and more like spending time with friends while discovering the true flavors and traditions of Portugal.

Loved our special time at this workshop!
The workshop was very well organized, and each of participants got ample attention from the facilitators without feeling rushed or pushed! We loved that they explained the history of the tiles as well. All of the facilitators were warm, friendly and helpful, but I’d like to make a special call out to Maria and Bea who were very engaging with us! Thank you to the team at Boiler Studio for making this a memorable experience for my parents and me! ❤️

An Absolutely Amazing Experience!
What an unforgettable culinary experience in Porto, Portugal! Chef Afonso was absolutely amazing! His passion for Portuguese cuisine and culture truly shined throughout the entire experience. He explained everything beautifully, from the ingredients and traditional cooking techniques to the fascinating history and culture behind each dish.
The visit to the local market was the ultimate highlight! Experiencing the sights, aromas, fresh ingredients, and vibrant atmosphere made us feel like true locals rather than tourists.
Chef Afonso was knowledgeable, engaging, patient, and genuinely passionate about sharing his culinary heritage. This was so much more than a cooking class—it was a beautiful journey through Portugal’s food, traditions, and culture.
If you’re visiting Porto, this experience is an absolute MUST! Thank you, Chef Afonso, for making our time in Portugal even more memorable! 🇵🇹❤️

A Must Activity in Porto (if you enjoy cooking)
It was one of the best experiences we’ve had in our travels. Anna, as an Australian Ex-pat, knew what we wanted/needed to know on our visit to Porto as well as what would be a unique experience. She is funny and practical which made cooking so very enjoyable. The visit to the Market was lovely (we went back later as well). The use of a kitchen space in a boutique hotel for our cooking and meal was fun venue. We highly recommend this experience and Anna as a guide/chef!

Baking Pastel de Nata with a pro!
The instructor, Clara, was exceptional. She was very pleasant, easy going, easy to understand, engaging all 6 of us in the preparation of the pastel de natas.
We each took turns, and with her helpful guidance, she instructed us in the individual steps required to complete the task in the 2.5 hours. The pastel de natas were DELICIOUS and we even got to take some with us. There was green wine & tea as well on the table for us to partake. I would totally refer others to take this baking class, even if you’ve never baked before. Clara was delightful!
There was some difficulty in arranging the exact location but eventually it was resolved and everything worked out just fine. Highly recommend.

We had a great morning...
We had a great morning making Pastéis de Nata! Luiz and Rui were excellent, both really funny and made the whole experience very relaxed and enjoyable. We learnt quite a bit about the history of the pastries as well as how to make them, which was really interesting.
The class was good fun from start to finish, with plenty of laughs along the way. The Porto wine was a nice touch and our finished pastries were absolutely delicious!
Really pleased we booked this and would thoroughly recommend it if you’re visiting Porto.

Super fun! I’d recommend!
Good variety of food on the tour, plenty of drinks, and a great guide! Manuela was super friendly and open to all questions about Portuguese food and culture. We also had a great group. I’d recommend keeping an eye on your WhatsApp because I had my notifications off and originally missed the welcome message to find her, but we figured it out after a few minutes and it was all good from there.

Terry is amazing. So much fun for the whole family.
We did a pastel de nata making class and Terry was absolutely amazing. I’m coeliac, and even though I had my own workstation, she made sure I felt fully included with the rest of my family the whole way through. She’s an absolute bundle of energy and even got my teenage boys involved and having fun, which isn’t always easy!
I felt so spoilt. It’s not often I get to enjoy beautifully made treats like this, and these were gorgeous. The added bonus of getting to finish off the custard was a lovely touch too. Cannot thank Terry and her colleague enough for such a wonderful afternoon.

An absolute must-do!
My partner and I did this tour as we traveled through Portugal for the first time. We like to seek out experiences that give us a genuine picture of life where we're traveling and this was exactly that.
Marco grew up in Portugal and graciously showed us around Gaia. We learned so much and had such wonderful conversations with him throughout the day. The food he made was absolutely delicious, as well! This was our favorite day of our 2-week trip, plus we felt like we made a real friend.
I cannot recommend Marco's tour enough! If you like non-touristy, authentic experiences, it's a must-do.

Minnesota home cooks
It was lovely! Directions to get in were a little difficult to understand but we got in on time. Jorge was fantastic. English was excellent. We four guests were all home cooks and learned something. The conversation and the wine went along with a wonderful meal. Our 3 hour event stretched on for 4 and a half hours and that was a GOOD thing. We would wholeheartedly recommend Jorge and already have when we were on a boat and wine tour the next day.

Pastry fun in Porto!!
Patricia and Maria were excellent instructors. They coached us in the proper technique’s to prepare the different components of Pastel de Nata and the end result was a wonderful pastry and whole lot of fun. The studio was spacious and comfortable and the port and champagne were delicious. Highly recommended, but only if you’re ready to have a great time.
