What are people saying about Inverness

I really enjoyed my trip...
I really enjoyed my trip to Eileen Donan Castle and the Isle of Skye with Timberbush. Our driver was Alex and he was very informative, telling us lots of details, stories and folklore about all the many points of interest as we passed. It gave me a better understanding of, and also reinforced, many of the Scottish history lessons I should have absorbed better at school 😅. We covered a lot of miles but there were plenty of stops where passengers could get off the bus for visits to viewpoints, for refreshments or for toilet facilities. The scenery en-route was really very special showing the Highlands and Islands in all the gloriously rich autumn colours. This, for me, more than compensated for doing the tour in late October which meant that darkness had fallen for the last part of the trip back to Inverness. That didn’t matter - it was a super day out.

Torquil!
Great experience! Honestly, when we first walked up to the van, I saw the guy in the Viking hat and thought, "I really hope he's our guide." Sure enough, Torquil was our guide, and he was absolute perfection! We couldn’t have asked for better. Having someone who truly knows the lay of the land—and makes the journey so much fun—is worth every single penny. Highly recommend!

MacDonald/MacPherson descendent
I want to thank Neil for a great all day tour to Eilean Donan Castle and Isle of Skye. Where other trips could be mostly about the history of the places, Neil shared additional information about the unique geology and landscapes of Skye, which I would not have gotten on my own. Neil also shared his stories about the similarities and differences between his home in the Orkney Islands and the Isle of Skye, and options for hiking and kayaking in and around Skye. Additionally, I appreciate Neil's friendliness and helpfulness, as well as his willingness to go the extra mile to get us to the Quiraing, when weather and expected construction projects seemed likely to keep is from such a beautiful prospect. Finally, I was looking to buy a scarf or blanket with the Isle of Skye plaid, and Neil pointed me to the right shops so I could buy both! Thank you for such a wonderful experience, Neil.

History, pop culture, flora and fauna, and "homework"
My husband and I want to thank Charlie for a terrific day tour to Clava Cairns, Culloden, Beauly Priory, and Glen Affric. We could not have had a better day! Charlie is a font of history and local knowledge and he really prepared us to understand the significance of each site, the challenges of preserving the sites, and tips on what to look for during our visits. It was a lot to pack into 8-9 hours, but we really feel like we made the most of our day. I also have to commend Charlie on his humour and encouragement to the group to enjoy our time together, pop culture references to the Outlander series, and his photography skills. :-) My husband enjoyed speaking to Charlie about the trees and vegetation in Glen Affric. Whereas, being an asthmatic, I appreciate Charlie's care and gentle encouragement to climb to the lookout in Glen Affric for the 180 degree view, as it was worth the climb! Just gorgeous ❤️ Finally, I gave Charlie some "homework", which he good naturedly accepted - finding the meaning and derivation of "Affric", and reading up on the faerie world, evidence of which seemed to be all around us at Clava Cairns and in Glen Affric

Inverness, the biggest city in the Scottish Highlands, is an excellent base from which to explore the area. There are dozens of Inverness tours to choose from, including excursions to 1,000-year-old castles, the Isle of Skye, whisky distilleries, Outlander and Harry Potter filming locations, and a Bronze Age burial site. Just outside Inverness, you can also visit the historic Culloden battlefield as well as Loch Ness—you may not see the lake’s famous monster, but you’ll see her likeness everywhere.
