We went during the 6:30 pm time-slot and had a wonderful experience! Ivan was our guide and he was great! The trip was informational and was well worth it. We were in a group of four, so it was simple to divide us into two different kayaks. Trip took about an hour and a half, start to finish. We were able to see incredible bioluminescence in the water and also an amazing star view. Would absolutely do it again!

The Mosquito Bay tour was beautiful and we enjoyed it very much. Be prepared to wade through seaweed to get into the kayaks. It is a strange and smelly but short trip. Once in your kayak and out to where the bioluminescence becomes brighter it is amazing! I recommend going on a dark night for sure! The guides were friendly and spoke English ad well.

It was amazing. Really enjoyable. Seeing the lights in the water was unique and the stars were breathtaking. It was a spectacle in the water and in the sky as well.
Luis our tour guide was great and knew a lot of interesting facts.

Our guide Luis had great information and hilarious jokes. The staff was professional and organized, including our driver Torres. We didn't feel rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy the glow and stars. It was bright, as we went the day after the new moon. You go in groups of two so one of us shared with another group, which worked out perfectly. Thanks for a great experience!

Great experience and very different. People were nice and spoke english well. Plenty of places to eat and drink before the tour.Enjoy it!!
Ysabel_P, May 2026
Def worth it! Everyone was super nice. we were late and missed our spot but they were able to get us in for a later group. Very grateful for that, it was dope.
Jessie_M, May 2026
Amazing tour! 1000% recommend. Luis was so bubbly, friendly and knowledgeable. Massive shout out to him for being so energetic and telling us about the history and stars!

I had a really bad experience I ended up showing up early to my second booking just for them to tell me they don't have space for me and my partner and the kids and they had originally canceled my booking, because technically, they said it wasn't confirmed yet. I had already got the money from my bank account took it out and I just wanted to see if I've eligible for either refund because I spend money on Barry for me and my family also ended up getting charged twice canceled while I was on the ferry and you guys also canceled physically in person because it was full and they had no more space available for us I wanted to see if I can get a refund. If not, if I can also get another date and reservation. Also with a refund for one of the other ones because I have an autistic kid who was really Waiting for This and you guys really made him upset on the fairy. Even after I tried booking us another another spot.

This was such a fun adventure! The guides provided clear, helpful instructions that made kayaking easy. Make sure to leave your sandals behind and dress to get wet. The glowing bioluminescence and the starry sky were truly breathtaking!

Definitely worth the see through canoes, the bioluminescent is a sight to see definitely need to put it on the to do's.
MikeAndJoyce_D, Apr 2026
This is a quick trip, 1.5 hours counts in travel time coming and going (on a very bumpy dirt road) and time in the kayak. We were told to leave our shoes and totebag/towel as you have to wade into the water to get into the kayak and the bottom of the boat is wet. You will sit on the bottom of the kayak in the water. The water "glows", when stirred by your hand or the oar, but not when the boat floats thru it. as shown in the ad. Guide was interesting and made sure we stayed together and did not get lost in the dark. Fun trip to do once.

Biobay tour with minimum moonlight made our visit even more better bioluminescent experience with a clear Canoe.
Zane_V, Apr 2026
Amazing experience with Adventure Vieques. They provided transportation from Esperanza to Mosquito bay where we took off in the kayaks. The clear kayaks allowed us to see the bioluminescence from underneath which was very cool. Our tour guide, Ivan, did a great job ensuring information and instructions were given to everyone (repeating everything in English and Spanish). Overall, an amazing experience!
Alex_P, Apr 2026
Clear bottom is definetly worth it. Try to book on a night or at a time without the moon. Wear pants that you are ok getting wet. I wish this company had seats in their kayaks because i ended up sitting in an inch of water. Another company had seats in the kayaks that were clear bottom. I bet their vans don’t smell as bad if their clients aren’t getting soaked for the ride back!

What an amazing experience! We had a great time on our bioluminescence tour. The experience started with a very bumpy but fun ride up to the bay. Our driver was hilarious and really took us for a ride. Once we got out to the bay, our guide paddled out with us and answer any questions we had. It took a while for everyone to get a hang of the kayaks but once we did, it was great. Be sure to go on night with low moon visibility. The stars were sparkling above us and the water was glittering below. Truly an unforgettable experience. Would recommend !!

From the word go, the person behind the counter said a dry bag was $5-
we gave $10 and received no change. Drive to bay was chaotic and once in the water the leader paddled extremely far from our group- and at all points spoke so quietly nobody could hear instructions- he was on his phone the whole time and basically it was a horrific
waste of time and money with a lackluster, indifferent crew.

This is a unique experience and phenomenal activity to do if you are able to make it to Vieques! Bio Bay is a great company to go with!
Irmary_P, Apr 2026
The tour was well organized, and the guide was very knowledgeable. The bay itself is truly unique—an experience you’ll likely only have once in a lifetime. For an even more memorable outing, consider using a glass-bottom kayak. It’s also a good idea to wear comfortable clothes that can get wet, and bring a hoodie in case it rains. You don’t need to be an experienced kayaker, but having some basic familiarity with handling a kayak can help you navigate more smoothly and avoid bumping into others in the dark.
Zoe_S, Apr 2026
This was such an awesome experience!! Clear bottom kayaks are definitely the way to go. Be prepared to get wet! It’s a ride to the bay, but you get a lot of time to explore and see the bioluminescence.
Nathan_R, Apr 2026
This tour was amazing! We had the perfect night of barely any moon and overcast skies. Pictures don’t do it justice! It really was indescribable! Would def do this one again! We ran into other travelers that went to other bays and sounds like this one was the best! Our guide was awesome as well!
Lisa_G, Apr 2026
This was a really great experience overall and definitely a highlight of our Puerto Rico trip. We chose this tour because of the strong reviews, reasonable pricing, and the clear bottom kayaks, which made the bioluminescence even more special.
That said, communication leading up to the tour could have been better. I asked a few times about weight restrictions and wasn’t able to get a clear answer, which would have been helpful for planning.
When we arrived, things felt a bit rushed. We were a few minutes late, so I understand that played a role, but there wasn’t much instruction given before getting on the water. For a group like ours, many of whom are newer to swimming and have some anxiety around water, a quick overview of paddling and what to expect would have made a big difference.
Even with that, we still had a great time and the experience itself was beautiful. With a little more communication and guidance, this tour would be exceptional.

We had an absolutely amazing time on this tour! My husband, three kids, and I all went, and everything exceeded our expectations. The location was easy to find, and the staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating—especially since I’m 6 months pregnant! All other tours will NOT let you go if pregnant!
Being out under the stars and watching the microorganisms light up was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we’ll never forget.
A quick tip: be sure to plan your transportation from the ferry to the tour location ahead of time. There are golf cart rentals, scooters, car rentals, and local taxis available. If you take a taxi, definitely ask for Fran—he was fantastic! Overall, this tour was a 10/10 for our family. Highly recommend!

Pictures do not do this justice!! It’s truly a magical experience. I felt like I was kayaking on starlight. Make sure you go when the moon is not full so that conditions can be super dark! You kayak for maybe 10-15 min to a spot in the bay and from there you’re given free time to explore.
One more thing about pictures, turn your camera to night mode and do NOT use flash. Because of the way the bioluminescent works, you will never ever get a pic using flash. Please don’t be that annoying family on my trip that kept trying. Even with night mode it might be hard to get pics, so just live in the moment and enjoy!!

I want to start by saying that this review is only for a specific group of people. For most who have kayaked before or do activities like this on every trip, it was fine. However, this is not very inviting or approachable for people who have never kayaked or may have a fear of water. Everything went fine with my group, but I can see a million ways that this could be frightening for someone who wants to experience the bioluminescence but is not knowledgeable about kayaking. It is fast paced, you are given minimal information, and from reading other reviews it seems entirely up to who you get as your guide whether you will know what’s going on or not. I was only given the most basic instructions on how to kayak, and basically had to figure it out for myself. As a non-swimmer, the experience all around is very uncomfortable and hectic. I only say these things because I believe there are so many opportunities where they could make this more accessible for first timers, because it really isn’t that hard once you get the hang of it. Basically, I just wish a little more care was given by the guides to teach and reassure those who had not done this before that you can learn it and do it safely. Small changes could really make this into a much better experience.
The bioluminescence was definitely cool to see, but it was hard to appreciate when most of the time spent on the water was me figuring out how to not run into people and also keep track of our group on the very dark water. Not everyone understands how it feels to tackle a big fear (like a fear of water) like this, and I feel for those who are pressured into these activities where no one stops to check if you are okay or know what you are doing.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We truly value your comments, as we are always looking for ways to improve the experience for all of our guests, especially those trying kayaking for the first time. We will certainly take your suggestions into consideration and continue working on strengthening our initial guidance and on water support.
During the check in process, we ask all guests if they have any medical conditions, anxiety, fears, or concerns that we should be aware of so we can provide additional support and a more personalized experience throughout the tour. At no point were we informed of any such situation.
We are glad to hear you were still able to enjoy the bioluminescence, and we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.

This was exactly as advertised and super fun. Would totally recommend it. Pick up location was a bit confusing as a couple other vendors in the area. Guides were fantastic.
Ana_S, Apr 2026
It was a great experience although it can get a little hectic when disembarking from the canoes and other tours starting, but the tour guides made it very organized. It is really dark and can get confusing.- mainly by the other tour groups.
Natalie_D, Apr 2026
The experience was magical. The clear kayaks made the experience feel even better because you could see the water glow beneath you as you paddled.
Those in our group who are tall (over 6 feet) found the kayaks a little uncomfortable.
There are quite a few different tour groups on the water at the same time.
If you are coming to Vieques by ferry- consider buying your ferry tickets the day before. We did that and made an entire day on Vieques.
Juliana_E, Apr 2026
It was a very beautiful experience, definitely worth it. They ask you to remove your shoes before going, so water shoes can be helpful if you have trouble walking on rocks. Highly recommended — it’s absolutely worth going.
Shikha_G, Mar 2026
Horrible experince. The tour guy did not wait for us and started rowing away when we were still so far behind. It’s very dangerous considering it’s dark and this is our first time kayaking. He was not even aware that we were not with the group till half an hour later. We had to just go offshore. Did not even get a refund. Would never do this again and terrible service.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
We take safety very seriously. Before entering the water, all participants receive a clear and direct briefing on how to paddle properly and how to stay with the group at all times.
Claiming that this activity is dangerous is incorrect. This is a guided and controlled experience carried out under established safety protocols. It is not fair that, due to not following the provided instructions, a misleading perception is created that may alarm future visitors.
Our guides lead the group at an appropriate pace, and we have additional support to ensure no one is left behind. Staying with the group is the responsibility of each participant.
Our refund policies are clearly stated prior to booking and apply equally to all guests.
We fully stand by the professionalism and standards of our operation.

This tour was incredible! The clear kayaks were so worth it. The staff was great and we had a perfect experience. Definitely recommend!
Brian_G, Mar 2026
It was interesting to see but the time and conditions of the travel were pretty rough. Road going to the water was terrible and the time it took because of those conditions took away from time on the lake.
