    • In Rome Vans are better than Buses: Van = up to 8 seats, Bus = up to 50 seats. Note that Buses are not allow in the historical areas of Rome (official ship excursions from Cruise Companies are operated with Buses). This mean that the Bus will drop you off and you will walk for the entire duration of the tour (6/7 hours) to the other side of town at the end of the tour to be picked up. Best Viator’s Rome excursions are with private Vans. Bus in Rome has only a small number of authorized spaces dedicated to pickup/dropoff travellers so, usually, during the city tour you had to walk for about 4/6 miles. In a big group chance are that you'll have to wait much longer for people lingering at the sights and stand in line longer for the toilets or at the snack counter. You will also have much less one on one time with your driver and guide or time to ask questions, because you'll have to share them with a lot more people.
    • Vans and their drivers will be at your complete disposal for the entire duration of the tour and can take you and stop where Buses cannot go, very close to all attractions, you will walk definitely less and see more!
    • Our fleet is comprised of Mercedes, Volkswagen, Ford, FCA, Sedans, MPVs and Vans. Many Italian cities have restricted the areas where certain vehicles can circulate, so in order to offer you the best service possible and to let you reach your destination as comfortably as possible, we will arrange your vehicle accordingly
    • Above 7 passengers please make multiple bookings and we will provide the service either with multiple Vans/SUVs, according to our availability and local regulations. The multiple vehicles will make the tour together with the same stops. The Guests can switch as they prefer in the available vehicles

The Best of Rome Possible in a Day

    BillieSue_W, Apr 2026
We realized that due to our cruise itinerary, we would unfortunately only have one day to experience Rome. Due to time restraint, the excursions offered by the cruise line did not include either seeing or seeing and entering several of the most desirable sites to see in Rome. Additionally , Rome is about 90 minutes from the port. We researched and purchased our first Viator tour. We purchased an all inclusive private tour of Rome. The tour included a driver who picked us up at the terminal at 7:15 am and returned us at 4:30. This allowed us to have the most time possible for experiencing Rome in a day. Our driver, Paolo, was timely, polite, knowledgeable and incredibly skilled at maneuvering the very new and clean minivan through tight quarters and narrow streets with much traffic and pedestrians. Phenomenal driver!! Our guide, Franchesca, was a special gift to us for the day. (Both spoke very good English). Franchesca proudly shared his love for his country and its centuries of historical events and people. He made history come to life with his infinite knowledge and descriptions of both ancient Rome, its historical significance and the Rome of today. Again, timeline was tight and we desired to see as many sites on our wishlist as was possible. Yes, a whirlwind but we knew that possibly we may never make it back there. With Franchesca's credentials and pre-arranged tickets we were able to avoid waiting lines that were hours long at several of the sites. We were able to visit and gain entrance to many of our wishlist of sites. Franchesca and Paolo made our day in Rome gave us an incredibly special day and taste of Rome. Thank you both so much.
