Perfect way to experience Costa Rican traditions, food and culture

      Mike_I, May 2026
his tour was one of the best that I have been on regarding culture, history and the way of life in Costa Rica. We started off with Josue picking us up at where we are staying to bring us to the destination. Along the way, he explained the history of the area, when roads were built in the Central Pacific as well as the timeline in developing the area. He was full of information about this area. When we arrived at our destination, we met Kattya and her mother Yuri. They were super friendly and explained to us the history of the land and the indigenous way of life. We then went on a nature hike through the area to a beautiful waterfall and along the way saw a troop of Squirrel monkeys! What an experience that was! We then came back and a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch was that was enjoyed together telling stories. After lunch we saw how sugar cane was pressed and were able to sample some along with different plants used for different ailments. We were shown local plants that the indigenous used and explained the planting and harvesting. At the end of our time, we feel that we have gained friends in the area and are so grateful for the time that we were able to spend with Josue, Kattya and Yuri.

Thank you so much, Mike! I’m really happy to hear the tour felt like such a meaningful look into Costa Rican traditions, food, and way of life. It was a pleasure sharing the history of the Central Pacific with you, and I’m so glad you got to spend time with Kattya and Doña Yuri, enjoy the waterfall, see the squirrel monkeys, try the traditional lunch, and learn about the plants and sugar cane. More than anything, I love that the experience felt personal and friendly. We’re grateful for the time we shared with you too. Pura vida!

Great way to see something off the beaten path

Great way to see the inside of a local meal how they live, definitely an awful the beaten path kind of tour they’ve been doing this tour for about six months, definitely bring water shoes and shoes that can get muddy and you can climb in if you go in a smaller group the waterfall that we went to was amazing. It was actually like three or four small waterfalls. With a small pool size swimming area, deep enough to jump in in places.

Thank you so much for joining the countryside tour and for sharing your experience. I am really glad you enjoyed the local meal and the visit to the waterfalls. It is a very simple and authentic place, and it means a lot that you appreciated that side of Costa Rica. The waterfalls are beautiful and I am happy your group got to enjoy the whole spot in such a fun way. Thanks again for taking the time to write this, and I hope the rest of your trip is full of good moments.
