This heroic wine comes from vines that grow from lava soil and flourish on the rock. All the work is done manually and none of this has changed in 500 years, when the first settlers introduced grape growing in Pico. After our walk in the landscape of Pico Wine, to refresh our feet, we drive you to one of our favorite natural swimming pools, in an amazing setting or just lay down for a bit, exchanging more local stories and preparing your appetite for the next stop. Finally, we take to a wine tasting in a beautiful setting with an emergent and promising awarded independent local producer. You will experience all the landscape and history in your mouth!

The Pico Vines, the Baleeira Heritage and the Volcanoes

This exclusive full-day tour invites you to discover the essence of Pico Island, among UNESCO vineyards, volcanic landscapes, elevated lagoons, whale history and local flavors. We started in the Old Creation, in Madalena, with a visit to the vineyards and the mill, then followed up to the Lagoa do Capitão for a short walk and panoramic views of St. George. The route continues to São Roque do Pico, passing through the Villa and visiting the Baleeira Industry Museum, before having lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the sea. After lunch, we follow the north coast, passing Cabrito, Arcos and Lajido de Santa Luzia, where we visit the Vineyard Landscape Interpretation Center and the volcanological/sismological zone. The experience ends with a Pico wine tasting, celebrating the island’s unique volcanic terroir, before returning to Madalena by the sea.

Adventure by buggy in Mount Pico

Looking for an unforgettable adventure? A 3-hour ride by the wheel of a buggy, along off-road paths along the mountain of Pico Island is like entering an adrenaline video game, but live and full of nature. Each curve brings a new landscape: endemic plants, volcanic terrain and forests that look like exits from a fairy tale, with closed curves and natural obstacles, but the reward is priceless: an horizon that seems to have no end, with the blue sea contrasting with the intense green of the vegetation and the ash of the volcanic rock. In the middle of the route, there is a short stop to recover breath and take pictures that will cause envy on social networks. It is also the time to feel the connection with nature: the wind in the face, the smell of volcanic earth and the sound of the waves in the distance. Tip: Do not forget to bring sunglasses, comfortable clothes and your best smile, because this is an adventure that will stay recorded in memory!
