One day in Matera
Gaetano was personable, engaging and extremely knowledgeable; sharing fascinating stories about the history of the Sassi, cave dwellings, & the ingenious architecture of the city that make Matera so unique. We were spending only one day in Matera so taking a walking tour & having a guide like Gaetano was a must. We were able to see the major highlights and experience scenic viewpoints helping us make the most of our limited time in the city. If you only have one day in Matera, a walking tour like this is absolutely the best way to experience everything the city has to offer. Highly recommended!

Great Intro to Matera!
Excellent tour! The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and easy to understand. The 2 hours were actively paced but not rushed. She did an excellent job of presenting the history of the sassi in the context of the overall history of Matera, including many small and interesting tidbits of information. I learned a huge amount! One of the best walking tours I’ve taken!

Touring Outlying Areas Around Matera.
The tour to Murgia Park was beautiful, allowing us to see some of the areas surrounding the Sassi portion of Matera. We were able to tour a cave church, learn about the refrigeration system of past centuries, and learn about some of the native plants of the area. The weather was quite nice. However, the low cloud cover on the evening of our tour did not allow for a magnificent sunset as we had hoped. To compensate for this disappointment was the ability to see the night lights of Matera’s Sassi area across the deep canyon between us. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful with answering our questions. This was a very pleasant and enjoyable tour!

This Matera Tour is Not to Be Missed!
The entire staff is amazing. We were running late for our experience because we had trouble finding parking in Matera and the wonderful Lorenza waited for us. We were personally escorted to the rest of the group. Lorenza is AMAZING. Her tour of the Sassi was engaging, informative and just perfect in every way. This tour is not to be missed if you're in Puglia.

Book without hesitation!
The best walking tour we’ve been on in Europe, and we are frequent travellers to Europe! Book without hesitation! If you love history, clear explanations on the evolution of Matera, you’d like this tour. Gaetano is the best tour guide you can ask for - patient, knowledgeable, responsible and humorous.

Views and Sights of Matera
Fabulous experience for anyone coming to Matera who would like to experience an overview of the city and the history involved while in the comfort of a cute little vehicle. Vito was accommodating, knowledgeable, kind, and answered all of our questions happily. Highly recommend this tour!

A must-do!
A must-do when you arrive in magical Matera. The tour really helped give you a sense of the history and layout of this most amazing town. The city is larger and more complex than you realize so a tour helps give perspective. We walked about 2 miles up and down - so be prepared and wear good shoes.

Best tour of Matera!
Sara was our tour guide and she was fantastic! We walked and saw all of Matera learning its history up to present day. She pointed out what to do and see in addition to what we saw as well as local recommendations for dining. The history of Matera and the Sassi is fascinating.

Fun way to see the city!
Super fun way to see Matera and get some history. We had done a walking tour earlier in day and I was afraid it was going to be same thing. It was not. It built on the other tour. This tour stopped at a recreated cave house and the miniature museum as well as great viewpoints and church of St. Peter. It rained on our evening tour but it was still fun.

Bus tour - Sassi of Matera
We have enjoyed the comfortable ride in the bus and memorable stories from past and present about Matera presented by a very dedicated, cheerful and eloquent guide Anita (Matera City Tour).
She also gave us the tips about local foods and drinks which all enriched our impression that she is someone that cares and loves the city and warmly welcomes Matera visitors.
Tour is mixed Italian/English and Anita was kind and made time for our questions.
Very good and affordable closed parking place is just opposite to the tourist office.
Panoramic views from Piazza San Pietro Caveoso and visit to House-Cave were exceptional.

Incredible!
This was an incredible experience. We were very lucky, our guide, Mikele, was very knowledgeable and passionate. He shared a lot of information with us from history to architecture, nature and ecology. The sunset over Matera was breathtaking! I would highly recommend this experience.

A must on a hot day
The tuk tuk was our saving grace on a very hot day. We were able to quickly get many viewpoints of the landmarks and significant history. Our guide was so nice, gave all the history, took us to good photo ops, and offered to take our picture. Lovely tour.
