What are people saying about Antigua

Must see place!
Must-see place! The tour operators allowed us to spend most of the time in the last village, Santiago Atitlán, where we stayed for about 2 hours. However, in San Juan La Laguna and San Pedro La Laguna, we only had around 25–30 minutes in each village.
In my opinion, the first two villages were the most beautiful, with amazing artistic wall paintings. We didn’t have enough time to fully explore San Juan and San Pedro La Laguna. I would definitely recommend allocating more time to these two villages.

A perfect day trip! We...
A perfect day trip! We started off with a comfortable (but long!) car ride to Lake Atitlan. Upon arrival, we met our guide, David, and had breakfast with a view. He was a wonderful guide who made sure we experienced all we wanted to see. We loved San Juan and Santiago. We opted to skip San Pedro so our kids could have time swimming in the lake.
Would highly recommend this excursion. And if you go, hope you are lucky to have David as well!

Recommended!!
Great tour! A driver picked us up at our hotel for a semi-private tour with one other couple that we picked up on the way. Explored the grounds and learned about Mayan life from our native, English-speaking guide. Witnessed modern-day Mayan rituals that still take place at the site. Would definitely recommend if you can’t make it to Tikal, which was too far for us to travel on this vacation.

Wonderful Service!
Wonderful car service! We used them both ways to get to Antigua and back to the Guatemala City airport. Both drivers were on time, safe, and courteous. They were friendly and helped us to get to both destinations in a timely manner. The car was spacious and comfortable for my large party. They also responded quickly when we reached out to them on WhatsApp when our flight landed earlier than expected. My friend accidentally left their phone in the van and they responded quickly and brought it right back to us. I would definitely use this service next time I am in Guatemala.

Best cooking class ever
We helped prepare a four-course dinner using local foods and recipes. Dario, the guide/chef first gave us a tour of the central market and purchased some of the ingredients for the dinner. We rode a chicken bus to the dining location just outside the city. Then we drank wine and chopped it all up. He and his assistants did the final preparation while the guests chatted. We were all dropped off at our hotels about 6 hours later. This was a wonderful experience, best cooking class we have ever taken!

The hike is harder than it looks
I had a great experience. I went for my birthday as a solo traveler please do not take this hike lightly. I started out on foot, but had to use the horses 10 minutes in the only thing I was disappointed in was the price of the horse it said it was 300 online then the employee changed it to $300 going up the hill and $300 going down. Also, please bring a hat and gloves and also walking sticks. They’re $40 on Amazon and it’s definitely worth it.

Antigua to pecaya
Bus ride from Antigua was about 1.5 hours. We decided to take the horses up and back and made taking in the scenery amazing. Was 120 us for 2 horses up and down. Volcanoes is beautiful and sunset was amazing. All guides were super friendly and knowledgeable. Truly a beautiful experience!

Had a great time, tough climb, totally worth it
Had a wonderful time! We were almost the last stop of shuttle for the morning, so a bit of a wait, but comfortable ride once we got going. Stopped for coffee on the way since it was the last stop, and appreciated with early start. We're given option to rent a horse-taxi and/or a walking stick once we got to the volcano start. Price of admission to park is not included in tour, bring $100Q. The climb is med/difficult, but plenty of breaks, bring lots of water. Many scenic outlooks for photos make it worth it. Lots of time at the top to enjoy the view and cool off. First halfway thru lush greenery, 2nd half was lava rock and more slippery and dusty, the rented pole really came in handy. "Roasted" marshmallows toward the bottom of the decent, more like melted, but still fun. Very tired and sweaty at the end. There place to get refreshment at both side of hike and along the decent as well. Horses come along and are offered to people when the climb up becomes too much, the price goes down the further up you make it. Starting at $225Q then I heard half price at one point. Be aware, while English is listed as a spoken language, is minimal, announcements are all in Spanish and you have to ask the English speaking guide if you have a question to explain.

Awesome volcano hike!
One of our favorite excursions. Hiking up to the viewpoint at the base (?) of Volcan Pacaya with beautiful landscapes, and a stop on the way there from our hotel pickup to see Volcan Fuego belching smoke. At various viewpoints we could see all 3 other volcanoes and the different lava flows from recent pacaya eruptions. On the way home we drove by Volcan Agua for more great views and driving through neighboring towns. Our guides were terrific and knowledgeable and the private tour for the two of us made it all the more special. They were also patient with our hiking pace as we climbed.

Truly a SkyHigh adventure!!
Such a cool experience!! Highly recommend if you’d like to experience Antigua as a whole! Ethan was our guide and was so great!! Very knowledgeable about the city, thoughtful throughout it all and flawlessly captured every fun moment. He also had a “break check” on the ATVs to ensure safety! Seriously loved my time on the 9am tour!

Good option for one day
It’s a long ride from Antigua, be ready! Streets are steep, wear comfortable shoes and be ready to walk some. Guides were great, offered Spanish and English. If you only have one day to visit this is a good way to pack a lot into it. Very touristy, not much nature, plenty of shopping if you’re interested.

Antigua-GUA-FRS-Tikal & reverse- totally manageable and enjoyable
Wonderful experience!
I was hesitant about the 1 day round trip from Antigua and back, however had already booked hotel reservations in Antigua and still wanted to somehow fit in a Tikal during this trip. It was a lengthy travel day, however manageable and all my daughter and I had to do was show up and everything was taken care of from the drivers, airline tickets, shuttles, tour group and lunch.
We covered quite a bit of ground within the park and had enough time to explore on our own. We were in the park From 9am-1pm on a Friday in August and it was not crowded. I was actually surprised at the lack of crowds. The guide Luis was incredible, a true treasure to the park. He is proud of the site, very knowledgeable and you can see that bringing visitors also brings him joy as he shares it. He communicated to our group in Italian, Spanish & English. Our driver Oscar was steady, safe, efficient & hilarious.
Really happy with this experience.

Not seeing something you are looking for?
Even though there’s plenty to keep you busy inside the UNESCO-listed city, Antigua also serves as the gateway to many of Guatemala’s top natural and archeological attractions. On Antigua day trips, you can climb to the bubbling crater of the country’s most active volcano; explore culture-rich, lakeshore villages in the Guatemalan Highlands; and travel back in time while at an atmospheric, pre-Columbian archeological site surrounded by lush jungle. Arranging these experiences yourself can take up hours of precious vacation time, but these stress-free excursions save you the time and hassle of sorting tickets and transfers.
