Alkmaar becomes the crime scene in this self-guided detective game, where the clues are hidden in plain sight in the streets around you. The case is the murder of Balthasar, and the evidence is scattered across the old centre - past Wildemanshofje, De Waag, Grote Sint-Laurenskerk and De Molen van Piet. You decode messages, photograph what does not add up and press digital witnesses whose stories never quite line up. Every puzzle you crack removes a name from the list of suspects. Play as a couple, bring the children along, or send two or three teams out at the same time and turn the investigation into a race - which is what makes this murder mystery game work as well for a team outing as for a day out. The last answer is waiting somewhere in the centre of Alkmaar.

They miss the city that lost a siege, and they never know how six people hid behind a false wall while the Gestapo searched the house around them. Start conveniently at the station and walk with this self-guided audio tour of Haarlem that runs entirely from an app on your phone and takes you past 17 stops, including hofjes, a medieval gate, and a watchmaker’s shop with a secret. Start whenever you like, pause for coffee, resume where you left off. Over 30,000 travelers have used the self-guided tours. Ideal for history lovers who want Haarlem's stories, not just facts.
