Turn something old into something new during this lesson in the Japanese art of "Kintsugi," the practice of repairing broken pottery, and there's a chance you'll get to see Master Taku on the day of your visit. Stemming from a Japanese belief that breakage and repair are part of the history of an object, rather than a reason to throw them away, your class involves repairing damaged items (plates are provided; personal items are not allowed) with lacquer mixed with gold. Don a "samue" as you refinish one traditional pottery item, leaving you with a newfound appreciation for Japanese aesthetics and a unique souvenir.

It is a once in a lifetime experience for most people to make pottery on the beach overlooking the Ocean. As proud as we are about the location, it is our kind and caring staff who standout. We also have an indoor pottery space called Pottery House nearby which faces the street (No ocean view from here sadly) but it is an inviting space. When the weather is bad in Krabi and you need an indoor activity out of the rain, we would be very pleased to host you. Both locations are suitable for bad weather. We will always have a minimum of 1 teacher for every 4 students.

Kintsugi, meaning “joined by gold,” began in the 15th century when Japanese artisans developed a method of repairing broken ceramics with lacquer and powdered gold, honoring flaws rather than hiding them. Rooted in wabi-sabi, kintsugi evolved into a philosophy that embraces impermanence and the beauty of imperfection. In this hands-on workshop, held in a real artisan’s studio, you’ll learn traditional kintsugi techniques using modern materials. Guided by an expert, you’ll bond pottery with synthetic lacquer, fill missing pieces with resin, and dust your piece with silver-based gold powder. All tools and materials are provided in a relaxed, focused environment. You’ll leave with your own restored piece and a deeper understanding of Japan’s view of resilience and renewal — carrying both new skills and a tangible link to a timeless tradition.

In this 1-hour workshop, you will learn Kintsugi, the traditional Japanese art of repairing pottery. Using specialized tools and gold powder, you will fix broken ceramic pieces. Our English-speaking instructor will guide you step-by-step. No experience is needed. We use fast-drying materials perfect for travelers. Your piece dries instantly, so you can safely pack it and take it home the same day. Why Kintsugi? The Japanese "Mottainai" Culture Japan has many earthquakes, which often break cherished pottery. However, Japanese culture values "Mottainai"—the belief that it is a waste to throw away usable things. Instead of discarding broken ceramics, craftsmen invented Kintsugi. They glued the pieces together with natural tree sap and painted the cracks with gold. This method turns damage into a beautiful feature, allowing items to be used for years. Craft your own piece of Japanese history. Book your 1-hour Kintsugi experience today!

What sets this experience apart is its calm, personal atmosphere and genuine flexibility. This is not a large, rushed, or tour-style class. Groups are kept small, allowing guests to slow down, ask questions, and create at their own pace. Unlike many workshops, guests can choose their level of involvement — either hand-build their own piece from clay and paint it, or enjoy a more relaxed session painting an already bisque-fired piece. This makes the experience suitable for complete beginners, families, and travelers with limited time. The studio setting in Klong Muang offers a quiet, creative alternative to typical outdoor activities, making it especially appealing during hot or rainy days. Each piece is professionally fired after the session, and guests take home (or ship) something genuinely handmade and personal. Above all, the focus is on quality, calm, and authenticity, not volume — giving guests a creative experience that feels real rather than tourist-packaged.
