We had the most wonderful time with Yayo in Osaka! From the moment we met her at the arranged spot on time, we knew we were in for a treat. She took us to her lovely home, where she welcomed us warmly.
We learned to make authentic miso soup from scratch, alongside delicious okonomiyaki and rolled omelets. Yayo was a delight—her explanations were clear, and she shared lovely stories about her mom that made the experience truly special. We finished with a lovely matcha. If you want a genuine, heartwarming Japanese cooking experience, Yayo is the best!

Incredible opportunity to cook in an actual Japanese home kitchen and an amazing cultural experience. We learned so much about Osaka and how their food differs from other parts of Japan. Our instructor was very kind and accommodating of dietary restrictions. We had so much fun and can't wait to try making okonomiyaki at home. It was a great value for the amount of learning and food you get!

The evening we spent with Yayo and her friend Kimi (?) was delightful! It was great to be inside a Japanese home learning to prepare real Japanese foods. The class size of 5 was just right, the foods were varied and delicious, and the take away and gifts were beautifully personal and thoughtful! Most grateful!

An authentic first hand cooking class to learn how to cook Osaka’s famous foods. This was excellent and a highlight of our trip! We made dinner and took home the recipes. Will be making these again when we return home, for years to come! We learned about the history of the recipes/ingredients, and got all the tips to make successfully on our own. Our teen enjoyed the class very much as well.

What a wonderful way to try many dishes, my hostess was a 11/10 and invited me into her home. I think this is in my top 2 cooking experiences on vacation (and I have had cooking classes in Italy, Ireland, France, Peru and Mexico). Thank you again!

This was truly one of the best cooking classes I’ve ever taken.
Yayo welcomed me into her traditional home in Osaka for a private cooking experience, and it ended up being one of the most memorable moments of my entire visit. From the moment we met, she was warm, kind, and incredibly welcoming. She even stood outside in the rain waiting for me at the train station so I wouldn’t get lost finding her home.
During the class we prepared several traditional Japanese dishes including miso soup (味噌汁), okonomiyaki (お好み焼き), dashimaki tamago (だし巻き卵 – rolled dashi omelet), and taiyaki (たい焼き). Yayo explained each ingredient and technique in a way that was easy to understand, and her English was excellent.
What made the experience even more special was her hospitality and generosity. At the end of the class she gifted me beautiful Sakura chopsticks and a chopstick holder, which was such a thoughtful gesture and a wonderful memory to bring home from Japan.
Yayo is truly the sweetest host, and this was hands down the best cooking class I have ever taken. She made my visit to Osaka truly memorable.
I highly recommend taking a class with her if you want to learn authentic Japanese home cooking and experience genuine Japanese hospitality.

Amazing. Just the best. We didn’t just cook, we immersed in the cultural and geographical aspects of the food. Yayo was kind, entertaining and knowledgeable. I could not recommend this class more. She showered us in food and kindness💕

Our host was great at teaching us some traditional meals. The meal was fulfilling and be prepared to take some back with you! Everything was easy to cook and we were really informed in the history of the food.

This was the highlight of our Japan trip so far. Yayo is so lovely and the food and experience was amazing. We loved it.

I purchased this cooking class for my husband to celebrate his birthday and Yayo did not disappoint! We were the only couple there and had a really engaging and one on one type experience. This was one of our favorite experiences in Japan and it really made us feel like we could make these dishes at home. I actually liked what we made with Yayo more than what we had purchased in Osaka the previous evening. It felt healthier and more authentic. Yayo's mom even made the miso paste and plum wine that is served.
We cannot recommend this class enough. It is a good value for your money and it is incredibly unique. We felt very welcome in Yayo's home. Thank you so much for your hospitality, Yayo!

Yayo was an amazing host. We felt incredibly lucky to be welcomed into her home. She was a great instructor and answered any questions we had. The location was very easy to find and we left with very full stomachs. Must do experience to see how true Japanese cooking is done. Thank you Yayo, we loved it

This was such a fun and wholesome experience! I was traveling solo and ended ip being the only guest that day which made it a special private cooking lesson. The lesson was in the host’s own apartment and was super personal and engaging. Each dish was delicious and she even left me with a little gift at the end. She was the sweetest person ever! She gave lots of good info and guidance - super encouraging throughout the lesson. Can’t wait to try recreating some at home! Great way to try some local Osaka classics, highly recommend,

We made multiple dishes and Yayo explained everything thoroughly. I appreciated how she explained the cultural background behind the dishes. She was very welcoming and friendly. I’m thankful she shared her Mom’s ingredients too! Very special.
Yuta_Y, Nov 2025
Fantastic cooking experience. Do note that the class is held in Yayoi's own apartment residence.
Yayoi is quite fluent in English, and was very hospitable, friendly, and helpful. She knows how to talk to us guests to make us feel comfortable. She taught lots of trivia about the food being cooked as well as about Osaka in general, and she knew how to answer questions related to these subjects.
Yayoi even presented a lovely gift for us at the end!
I'd highly recommend this class to anyone looking for a unique activity/experience in Osaka.
KJ_N, Nov 2025
A fun thing to do, we were the only two people for the class, whether that is good or not, we had fun. Yayo (our host) was great with her communication before our booking - where to meet was very central, again with photo's of what to look for. We had no trouble finding Yayo and it was a very short walk to her apartment. A plus it was nice to do at someone's home instead of a commercial kitchen. Yayo explainations of the food was great but we did ask her to repeat herself to make sure we knew exactly what we doing. We had some laughs about the eggs in Japan and cooking with chopsticks was a bit different and we managed it!!! Overall is was a great couple of hours which went very quickly and to try some traditional food that we cooked was special. We came home with leftovers and a few surprises - no spoiler alert this end.

This will be one of my most memorable events of my trip to Osaka. Our host expertly guided us through cooking some of Japan’s more memorable dishes. Along the way providing detailed knowledge and insight. This small group event was meaningful and tasty.

Had such an amazing time learning how to cook Japanese staples. Our host was very friendly and taught us a whole lot. Looking forward to trying to cook these items back at home
Corey_N, Oct 2025
What a fun and memorable experience to have! In an otherwise busy shopping city, Yayo welcomed us into her home for a moment of peace while we made miso soup, dashimaki tamago, okonomiyaki, and taiyaki. She was very helpful in explaining the significance of each dish and ingredient while giving advice on how to cook these at home. To top it off, she provided snacks, drinks and gifts to take home. Do not miss this. *NOTE* make sure to leave room to eat all the delicious food!
