Fantastic! My husband, my daughter and I did a 1-hour trail ride yesterday (a beautiful, sunny, warm Sunday in October) and it was on of our most memorable family experiences yet. Sunset Ranch is in a gorgeous neighborhood that is beautiful to drive through, and the ranch itself is quaint and full of horses and other farm animals. The staff and guides are wonderful. The horses are tame and patient and suitable for even absolute beginners. My only word of advice-- don't hold tightly to your reins! It is human instinct to pull or tightly hold the reins when a beginning horseback rider is scared/afraid, but this is counterproductive as it makes the horse anxious. Just be chill, hold on loosely, and get ready for a breathtaking view of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign that you could never see any other way. I am sure I'll be back with friends and family who are visiting LA in the future, as I would consider this a "must do" now that I've experienced it myself. Highly recommend! 10/10 A+++

Fabulous horse back trail ride and a great view of the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory as well as the city itself.
Well organised and very helpful staff - everyone made to feel at ease.

This was a fun activity to do with my partner. It’s great for both beginners and experienced riders. Our guide even took photos and videos of us, which was a nice touch. It can get a little dusty, so keep that in mind when dressing for the occasion—I recommend bringing a scarf or a disposable cover to create a barrier between your head and the helmet they provide, and wearing shoes you don’t mind getting dusty.

Workers seem to love their job and that plays a big part of how things are ran. Instructors were friendly and knowledgeable. I will be back with my family and friends. Horses are kept well and loved!

It was amazing!! I was nervous at first, but once you get onto the horse you can instantly feel the trustworthiness. Would most definitely recommend!

This was my first time all the way from Australia. First time riding a horse and it rained. Had Ashleigh. Very professional.

I had a really disappointing experience with this horseback riding booking. I purchased tickets the same day since it was my birthday, and while heading from San Diego to Los Angeles, our arrival time updated to about 30 minutes after the scheduled start time. Things happen, so I tried to contact the operator through the Viator app and by calling their number multiple times, but couldn’t reach anyone.
I was also trying to get in contact with the operator because I visit San Diego at least twice a year and was hoping to simply reschedule the experience, especially since I had already paid $200. I wasn’t looking to cause any issues—just trying to find a reasonable solution.
I then contacted customer service, who said they would submit a refund request—but that ultimately got denied. That was frustrating on its own, but what made it worse was the complete lack of communication from the operator. I wasn’t even asking to join the full ride at that point—I just wanted to know if there was any chance we could still stop by, see the horses, maybe feed them, or do something small with the time we had left so the trip wouldn’t feel like a total loss.
No one ever got back to me, which felt very unprofessional and inconsiderate. Poor communication, no flexibility, and no effort to make things right really ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday experience.

This was a great experience as a beginner it was my first time on a horse. This is great for beginners and learning how to control and navigate a horse and understanding that they respond to body language

Hmmmm….. mixed emotions. Good but not really. Way too many horses in the group ride…..it’s super slow and by the time we finally got on a horse and waited for the rest of the group we were 30 minutes just sitting! Smaller groups would be better. Would not recommend this place to a friend.

It was a fun and amazing experience. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our time with the horses going up the trails. I would definitely come back and consider doing a longer trip.

Highly recommend doing this excursion if you’re in the LA area. The staff was nice and knowledgeable and the horses are gentle.
A couple things to note:
1. If you are reserving a 9a horseback ride, the ranch opens at 8:30a. This is important to keep in mind if you’re catching ride-share (Lyft, Uber, or a taxi).
2. The parking area that is provided beyond the gate is small and limited.
3. Bags ( purses, waist pouches, book bags, etc.) can’t be worn while riding the horses. Be sure to wear a shirt with a pocket or pants with side pockets to hold your phone and other items (back pants pockets don’t count and work because once you sit in the saddle, your phone will be pushed out). If you bring a bag, you’ll have to either leave it in your car or leave it in the front office with the staff.
Enjoy!

Amazing experience. I would definitely recommend this for a birthday and date, family outing. Its truly an awesome time!
Adia_S, Oct 2025
Well, my partner whom I paid for already was unable to ride due to the weight restriction. The waiver only asks for weight. It does not say they will be ineligible to ride if over 240. I would like to determine how to get a refund for his ticket.
Outside of this, the process was fine, but I ended up having to ride in a group of people I didn’t know.
The scenery however, was beautiful. The horses were err pretty well behaved, and the guides were amazing.
