What Sets Our Class Apart At Baekusaeng Makgeolli, we are more than a brewery offering a one-day experience. We are leaders in creating makgeolli resources for brewers worldwide—through our offline classes, published book, and online courses. It has been our pleasure to teach students from all over the world, and in every class we: • Share practical brewing knowledge rooted in traditional methods, using fresh, real ingredients—not simplified shortcuts. • Train students to continue brewing at home, giving them the confidence and understanding to ferment independently after returning to their countries. • Encourage experimentation and creativity, helping each student develop their own style and expression of makgeolli. Our goal is simple but ambitious: to grow a global community of makgeolli brewers who understand the craft, respect its traditions, and continue brewing long after the class ends. Learn how to prepare authentic Korean food in a laidback environment during a small-group cooking class in Seoul. Join your instructor at Mangon Market to pick up the freshest ingredients, then return to their home. Get set up at your personal cooking station, then enjoy easy-to-follow instructions and personal assistance from your host. The 3-course menu may include soft tofu stew, bibimbap, bulgogi, kimchi stew, japchae, or stir-fried pork.

Immerse yourself in Korean culture and enjoy an authentic home-cooking experience with a local chef at her home. Enjoy a guided visit to the local market to purchase fresh ingredients, sample tasty street food snacks, and learn about typical herbs and spices. Then, get hands-on as you create a selection of popular Korean dishes and master traditional cooking techniques. Finally sit down to enjoy a ‘Hanjeongsik’ dinner including your homemade dishes, along with additional side dishes and dessert.

Korean alcohol is a lot more than just a green bottle of soju, which is diluted ethanol with artificial sweetener. Broadly, Korean alcohols are divided into Tak-ju (unfiltered rice wine), Cheong-ju (filtered clear rice wine) and So-ju (distilled spirit). Here, we will focus on our specialty, soju, but we can also taste other types too. Samhae soju was a beloved choice of spirit among the noble class of Joseon dynasty(1392~1894). This luxurious alcohol had caused cult following, but the making was so resource(rice)-heavy that production had to stop during famines. The current master, Hyeonjong Kim had learned and practiced for more than 10 years under master Taeksang Kim who had inherited and kept the recipe in the family. Sadly, master Taeksang Kim passed away in 2021. We will have a privilege to taste the history. *For private groups, please make a private group reservation or message me. You’ll visit N Seoul Tower and Naksan Park when they’re least crowded, and overcome the language barrier with your private guide. Korea's traditional liquor Makgeolli is a fermented rive wine with sweat and soft flavor. I'm sure that every wine, or beer lovers would also like the taste of Makgeolli, and whom who likes Makgeolli would love to brew their own. But brewing Makgeolli is much more complicated than other liquor brewing. in our activity the brewmaster of Makgeolli will support you making Makgeolli, and let you taste different types of Makgeolli. By learning this, you will be able to brew your own Makgeolli anytime and anywhere. you can earn 1L of fresh brewed Makgeolli, and 3 different types of Makgeolli tasting.

We designed this program with a goal of maximizing direct participant experience in makgeolli making from the beginning to the end. The introduction to the traditional Korean alcohol with a storytelling (folktale) will help participants get acclimated to the experience, even if they are new to Korean culture. Lastly, we support our audience engaging in a sustainable practice through utilizing reusable items. This activity also serves as a solid team-building activity as team effort is essential in making traditional alcohol. If needed, we can also help you customize the program (location, program length, available snacks, etc.) for your group upon request.

Korean cuisine offers a diverse array of flavors and textures, making it surprisingly versatile when paired with wine. While traditionally associated with rice-based spirits like soju and makgeolli, the complexity of Korean dishes can complement various wine styles. Light-bodied whites like Riesling or Pinot Grigio pair well with spicy and tangy dishes like kimchi or Korean BBQ, while medium-bodied reds such as Pinot Noir or Gamay can complement heartier dishes like bulgogi or galbi. Ultimately, experimentation is key, but the contrast and balance between Korean flavors and wine profiles can create delightful culinary experiences.
