Things to do in  Poprad

Situated on the Polish-Slovakian border, Tatra National Park is home to glacial lakes such as Morskie Oko; hundreds of mountain caves; and some of Poland’s highest mountains. Easily accessible from the winter resort town of Zakopane, it’s a hiker’s paradise with more than 170 miles (274 kilometers) of hiking trails, plus skiing opportunities nearby.

Looming on a hill over the village of Oravsky Podzamok, Orava Castle is one of the finest castles in Slovakia. This immense castle structure incorporates a medley of architectural styles, both inside and out, that visitors see as they climb up 754 stairs to visit just some of its 154 rooms.

Close to the Slovakian border in southern Poland, Pieniny National Park is best known for the Pieniny mountain range and the Dunajec River Gorge, where you can go rafting down the gentle river. Another highlight is the Three Crowns (Tri Koruny) peak, a mountain range that resembles its namesake.

Among the largest castle sites in Central Europe, Spis Castle (Spissky Hrad) offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's history. It was built and rebuilt multiple times over the centuries. You won't see much of its 12th-century origins, but you can see its castle, armory, chapel, and torture room.
