Itineraries for Your Trip to Buenos Aires
3 Days in Buenos Aires for Families
Family comes first in Argentina, so it’s little surprise that Buenos Aires is a great place to get kids excited about traveling. Whether you’re sightseeing, strolling, or stopping for coffee, children are always greeted with a smile, and there’s always someone ready and willing to inject a bit of fun into the proceedings.
Planning a family trip is the perfect opportunity to gain a fresh perspective on Buenos Aires’ top attractions, seek ways to experience local culture, and focus on making lasting memories. With that in mind, this 3-day itinerary bursts with activities the whole family will enjoy.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a stroll around San Telmo Market.
Summers in the city are hot and humid (and air-conditioning isn’t common), so plan sightseeing early or late in the day.
Sightseeing doesn’t have to be boring. Take an electric scooter tour or rent bikes and create your own custom-made tour. Kids will be impressed by the magnificent Recoleta Cemetery, the towering Obelisk on 9 de Julio Avenue, and the skyscrapers of Puerto Madero. Or, take a break from the urban views and cycle around the Palermo Woods or Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve.
In the afternoon, head to the waterfront La Boca neighborhood. A walking tour along Caminito Street lets you admire the colorful architecture, see street art, and view the famous La Bombonera football stadium.
The cobbled lanes and colonial buildings of San Telmo are an atmospheric backdrop for Buenos Aires’ most famous street market, held on Sundays. Spend the morning browsing the eclectic stalls and watching the impromptu street tango performances. Squeeze in some Argentine history with a stop at Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada.
After working up an appetite with all that walking, sample some of Argentina’s tastiest foods. What better way to get children involved than a family cooking class? Get hands-on as you learn to make delicious empanadas and sweet alfajores with dulce de leche.
On your final day, take a day trip—let the kids choose. Head into the pampas to meet the gauchos at a traditional Argentine estancia, try horseback riding, and eat an asado barbecue lunch. Or, enjoy a scenic cruise around the Tigre Delta, then get your adrenaline fix at Parque de la Costa Amusement Park.
Back in Buenos Aires, head to the Floralis Generica to see the sunset. Watching the giant flower sculpture close up with the setting sun is a thrill. After dark, take a tour to admire the city’s landmarks glittering with lights; it's the perfect way to remember Buenos Aires.
