This private tour is meant to show and explain you the basics of water(level)management in The Netherlands, a country largely under sea level. We pass by 2 highlights related with keeping The Netherlands dry; a 19th century huge pump and a recently built temporal movable dam which is only closed in case of high sea levels in combination with storms.

You will discover the beautiful and authentic part of the Zaan region by bicycle and by boat with this unique cycling and sailing through the Zaan region tour. First you cycle along the banks of the Alkmaardermeer over a part of the so-called ferry route. You cycle through the countryside and small villages and on your way you occasionally cross a small canal with a ferry that in some cases you also have to operate yourself.

On bikes through the dune reserve with fantastic views we will head towards the North Sea up the road, which goes down. Don't be surprised, this is not a figure of speech at all! The bike paths are perfect here, and not a soul on them. If the bike ride is not for you, we can go by bus. It is as picturesque as the bike ride. Along the way we will stop in the National Park to have a picnic there. If we will be lucky, then we will see rabbits, foxes, deer or the highland cattles! And we will definitely see the North Sea!
