Merzouga is a small Moroccan town in the Sahara Desert, near the Algerian border. It’s known as a gateway to Erg Chebbi, a huge expanse of sand dunes north of town. West of Merzouga, Dayet Srji is a seasonal salt lake that’s often dry in summer. When full, it attracts a wide range of migratory and desert birds, including desert warblers, Egyptian nightjars and, occasionally, flamingos

Starting from Merzouga village, you’ll get onto your camel for an approximately one hour ride through the Sahara desert, over the dunes, to your Berber camp. You’ll sit around the fire, have a delicious dinner, and enjoy the Berber drumming and music with your group. You can wander around the dunes later, under the starry sky.

The Saf Safari Oasis is about 45km to the northwest of Merzouga by track. The track will take us through the hamada (black, stony and arid desert), rivers of sand, dry rivers (depending on the time of year they will have more or less water) and mountainous tracks of stone and rock.
