Rite of Passage
This trip was a rite of passage for us. Deeply humbling and personal. I employ all African-Americans to make this journey at least once in their lifetime. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable of the history and significance of the "Point of No Return".

Moving and humbling
This is a very moving experience if you have slave ancestry or an interest in this period of history. The ride to/from Lagos is long and chaotic, but the multiple stops in Badagry along with the artifacts and history shared were worth it. There were some repeated facts at the various stops so it would benefit from some coordination. Also there were multiple ‘guides’ at each of the stops so plan ahead with small bills for tipping. Also be aware that there is a fairly long walk on a sandy trail as you follow the route the slaves were taken on the way to the ships - a very thought provoking part of the experience but be prepared with the right footwear, sunscreen, etc.

Experience history, honor your ancestors.
This tour was so insightful. If you are looking for a firsthand experience in a deep understanding of the slave trade history, I highly recommend this tour. It's also very beautiful for someone of the dispora to return for your ancestors left the continent for the Americas. It's a true honor to be in that space and experience and see for your own eyes what they endured prior to their journey. Each guide at the site is extremely knowledgeable and pofessional, pack water, wear comfortable shoes. You'll enjoy the boat ride to the point of no return and also the option of the bike ride down or if you prefer to walk down. The roads, if you're coming in from Lagos was a very safe, it was easy to navigate all the checkpoints highly recommend this tour as a must do. Our guides, Victoria and driver Ade,were absolutely incredible..

  • Due to the grave nature of some of the exhibits, Badagry Heritage Museum might not be suitable for children.

  • There are several different accommodation options in Badgary if you’re looking to stay overnight.

  • One of the museum buildings is a bungalow and therefore fully wheelchair- and stroller-accessible, while the other building has two levels and doesn't offer access to the upper floors.
