From Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, we cross Lake Rico by boat and, after a 20-minute sailing, disembark in front of the majestic south wall of the glacier. Along a guided walk of 11⁄2 hours, we skirt the ice enjoying spectacular views and the possibility of witnessing landslides that shake the landscape. As we reach the edge of the glacier, we will have time to take in its intense shades of blue and white, and capture memories with incredible photographs. We start by picking them up at their hotel or meeting point, and head to the hull of Estancia 25 de Mayo, where a short technical talk is held. Once equipped with helmets and gaiters, we set off from the pens to the south, crossing the impressive Cañadón of Calafate Creek. During the ride, we will cross streams and discover geological formations that reveal the passage of millions of years. The canyon protects us from the characteristic winds of the region as we ascend and enjoy unique views of Patagonia. After about an hour and a half of walking, we arrive at the Cave of the Creek, where the gauchos who guide the crossing prepare a delicious camper lunch. To complete the experience, a toast with wine is offered, before embarking on the return to the helmet of the stay, which takes about an hour and a half.

It is a journey in 4x4 ideal for lovers of nature, photography and for those who like to see landscapes with great natural and historical richness. The opportunities to see species of flora or fauna are excellent, as well as to see marine fossils or to walk to panoramic points. I lived a unique journey to the top of Cerro Frias, designed for lovers of trekking and Patagonian adventure. The tour begins in the hull of the stay and, after an initial walk, we arrive at the Woodsman's Refuge, where the ancient farmhands collected firewood at the beginning of the 20th century. The trail then enters the lengas forest and, after a challenging ascent of an hour and a half, the landscape opens up to offer views of the Cordon de los Cristales, the valley of the Sentinel River and, hopefully, the Torres del Paine. At 1,095 meters above sea level, the summit gives a 360° panoramic view: Lake Argentino, the Andes Mountains, Cordon de los Baguales and, on clear days, the Fitz Roy on the horizon. The descent along alternative paths reveals new perspectives of the hill and allows you to stop at historical refuges to enjoy a Patagonian life. The experience culminates in the hull of the stay, where a traditional snack brings the end to an epic day in the middle of Patagonia. Distance: 13 km

Spend an afternoon hiking and exploring outside of El Calafate on a visit to La Leona Petrified Forest. Along the way you’ll stop at Hotel La Leona, an old roadhouse that once housed Butch Cassidy, and travel past some of Patagonia’s most alluring scenery, including Mt Fitz Roy and Argentino Lake. Then enjoy an easy guided trek through La Leona’s moon-like forest, keeping an eye out for fossilized dinosaur bones and petrified trees. We started this winter trekking experience from El Calafate. Upon arriving at El Chaltén, we made a stop to use the bathrooms and adjust the necessary equipment: crampons, canes and backpacks. The tour begins with an initial kilometer ascending a steep slope, leading to the impressive "Virador Río de las Vueltas", a natural balcony that we reach in approximately 30 minutes. The second kilometer, of less inclination, follows the western slope of the valley of the river De las Vueltas, offering panoramic views of the mountain cordon Los Condores. At the beginning of the third kilometer, we find the fork that leads us to the Laguna Capri. In this final stretch, the trail reveals spectacular views of the mountains. From its banks, you can enjoy an unforgettable view of the Chaltén or Fitz Roy hill, a landscape that invites you to stop and contemplate one of the most emblematic postcards. Then, to finish we will enjoy an outdoor picnic.

The Cañadon Experience is a medium difficulty trek that allows us to travel along the riverbed of the Calafate Creek, until we reach the 25 de Mayo Stay Section. The surrounding hills form a canyon that invites you to discover it enjoying the stream, always safe from the wind that the valley offers. In the course of the walk you will see a lot of birds, river trout and flora characteristic of the steppe. They are 7 kilometers on the rise where you will travel through canyons, streams, geological formations containing marine fossils that show that the environments that are transited were mutated over the years. Trekking culminates when you arrive at the Section, house located 800 meters above sea level, in a valley with a magnificent view of the hills, ideal for relaxing and enjoying lunch. The tour is private by vehicle. During lunch you can share with other passengers of another excursion if any.
