Our first winery will be with the regions outstanding producer of Pinot Noir. His Spätburgunder wines regularly out-perform those of Burgundy, Oregon and others from around the world. We will taste several varietals including, Weissburgunder, Gutedel, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah. Located in the heart of the Achkarren dwells one of the most renowned family wineries. This winery will furnish us with an insight into both traditional and contempory wine-making practices. Finally we will head back down through the Kaiserstuhl vineyards which pepper the graceful terraces of this majestic dormant volcano and to our final winery of the day.

From 1870 to 1945, Alsace was a major war zone between France and Germany. This tour will explore the history of the Alsatians, first under German rule, then under French. We will discover remnants of these wars and visit Struthof (a concentration camp at 900 meters altitude), a Nazi German concentration camp. For a lighter touch, we will conclude the tour with a visit to one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Alsace and Christendom at Mont Sainte-Odile. This epic continues with a visit to our cellar. Leave Zurich at 10am with your English-speaking driver and cross the border to Basel. Start with Colmar Alsatian gem in the picturesque historic center for a delicious pie. From here, follow the Alsace Wine Route north towards Riquewihr with its half-timbered houses, medieval streets and welcoming cellars where you can taste Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. Continue to Eguisheim, a circular village classified among the most beautiful in France, ideal for a romantic walk or other tastings. This route offers rolling landscapes, fine wines and postcard villages. Your driver will drop you off in front of your Inn in Zurich at the end of the day. The experiment starts at 10am and ends at 7pm.
