Caribbean attractions

Located on the southeastern tip of St. Kitts, Great Salt Pond is a tranquil spot to hike paths and birdwatch. Bordered by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the pond has bright white sand beaches within walking distance. Body surfing is popular in the rougher waters of the Atlantic side, while snorkeling and swimming are the names of the games on the calm Caribbean side.

Built in 1680, St. John’s Figtree Anglican Church is one of the oldest churches in the Carribean. Inside the modest stone structure is one of the island’s most precious artifacts, the marriage certificate of British Navy Admiral Horatio Nelson and Frances Nisbet. Outside on the grounds is a cemetery where some of the weather-worn gravestones date back more than 300 years.

St. David’s Head sits on Bermuda’s easternmost shore, jutting out from two headlands into the North Atlantic Ocean. While most people visiting Bermuda don’t make it out this far, those that do find a place untouched by tourism. Highlights include hiking in Great Head Park and seeing the artillery guns at St. David’s Battery—both boast striking ocean views.

Located in the East End district of St. Thomas, Vessup Bay is a beautiful but largely undeveloped stretch of shoreline. Featuring a narrow bay and a long stretch of beach with plenty of sea grape trees, cacti, and century plants, Vessup Bay is ideal for boaters and beach-goers looking for a more tranquil experience.

Swim and snorkel with stingrays in the warm shallow waters around Gibbs Cay, a beautiful and uninhabited 7-acre (2.8-hectare) island. The best place in the Turks and Caicos to see and interact with southern stingrays, Gibbs Cay also features pristine, white-sand beaches, a scenic shoreline, and a hill with sea oats at its center.

Daniel’s Head Park is situated on some of the most gorgeous coastline in Bermuda. Located on the southeastern coast of the island, Daniel’s Head Park covers 17 acres. Making up part of this land are two glorious beaches that are a big part of the draw of Daniel’s Head Park. The water framing the beaches is shallow in most parts, making it an ideal place for families to go swimming. Snorkelers will also love donning some goggles and seeing what lies underneath the surface of the sea. Thanks to clear, calm water, you can usually see the underwater sea life well. Tropical fish isn’t all you can see in this area snorkeling; you can take a boat from the Daniel’s Head coast to the snorkeling hot spot of the shipwreck MVS Vixen, which still has part of its hull sticking out of the water making it very easy to snorkel around. Daniel’s Head Park has other water activities, too, including kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. There is also a restaurant, picnic tables and bathrooms located in Daniel’s Head Park.
