The singing dune was formed as a result of geological changes in the Semirechye region. The sands that lay at the foot of the volcano were drawn into this new corridor, like a wind tunnel, by winds blowing from the southeast to the west-northwest, forming huge dunes about 10-12 thousand years ago.
