It was the highlight of my stay in Swakopmund, I went for the guided self driving experience, I also rented a car from them, our guide Hanas deserves 6/5 stars, he’s a great guy, a great guide and a great driver, the driving experience is awesome, I was a little bit worried because I have a 23 old months baby with me, however everything went smooth. If you’re opting for the self driving experience, get a guide, as you can easily get lost and get stuck if you don’t know where you’re going. Thanks Hanas for everything.

Best way to do Sandwich Harbour and the Namib sand dunes drive while in Swakopmund.

The whole experience of driving through the sandwich harbour and then the dunes, was an extremely exhilarating experience. It seemed like a very private tour right from the word go. A small group of 3 cars, me driving one of them, driving the entire length of the sandwich harbour and then dune bashing, driving up and down the huge Namib sand dunes! It was extremely satisfying, fun and also scary, all at once. I feel so thankful of Mr. Andrews for his mentorship and guiding me throughout the drive, on the walkie talkie. He was very professional and a gentleman throughout. This one is a memorable experience and I’m very thankful for allowing me the opportunity to do this activity in Swakopmund. Cheers and regards.

Thank you for your kind review. Our guides love to share their experience with other drivers as its so unique. Yes we were also a little concerned about the baby and had confidence that the guide would take great care. You are 100 percent right. As a normal self drive you will never experience Sandwich Harbour as you did as you don't know where to go what route to follow etc. Getting stuck and lost would definitely happen. Going with a guide from Desert Dunes and Dust tours you get the best of both worlds, a beautiful scenic tour and dune driving experience. Thank you for the recommendation and driving tips. Highlight of Trip to Namibia

This was the highlight of our trip to Namibia. My husband and I are not "tour people" but this experience was incredible. We were considering driving to sandwhich habor unguided..which wouldve been a huge mistake. This tour allowed us to drive over large dunes and in areas that we never would have tried alone. The guides were knowledgeable and fun and we felt extremely safe the whole time. We would 100% do this again on another trip to Namibia.

Thank you for your kind recommendation. Its a lot more relaxed if you go on a guided Tour, to absorb the beauty and feel the rollercoaster route. You would also not do the nice route as you would not know about it. As long as you were happy we are happy. Its great to hear the lads are doing a good job. Uwe

Tour good but cannot recommend hiring their vehicles for self drive

We opted for a self drive experience and hired a vehicle from the company. This was guided so we were between two company vehicles. Actual trip was excellent and the guides gave good instruction as required. However the vehicle we hired was very substandard and in my opinion not safe. The hand brake did not work-no handbrake cables, the ABS warning light was on. Passenger door would not open from the inside and the passenger seat belt continually jammed. The drivers side didn't. Towards the end of the morning the car stalled (automatic) and wouldn't restart! Really great in the middle of the dunes. A guide came over and tried to start it and then spotted smoke/during smell from the passenger glove box. He shouted at my partner to get out of the vehicle but she couldn't the passenger door was jammed. To be fair we have had a total refund-had to ask and was not offered but does not compensate for what might of happened. On balance I cannot recommend this company to anyone on a self drive basis when they place such a low value on their clients well being

We spoke on the phone and sorted everything out including a full refund , which you mentioned you accept, and am thus surprised to see this review. Good thing, nothing happened to anyone. In fact we arrived at the car and drove it home as I had mentioned to you. The car was not the car we rent out usually, being fully booked, unfortunately left us no choice that day. We are terribly sorry and it wont happen again. We will consider stopping the renting of vehicles, as its not our main business, but thought it a good idea for our clients to enjoy Sandwich Harbor in a self drive, as the car rentals don't allow their vehicles into the Park. Trust you find it in order and accept our apologies. Uwe

Basically, best day of my life

This is absolutely the best way to see Sandwich Harbor. Self driving was so much fun, we jammed out to music and just had a blast. Sandwich Harbor itself is not to be missed, so if you're going anyways why not have some real adventure!? I had never driven on dunes and it's absolutely exhilarating! Our guide Winton taught us how to do it safely and was driving in front, giving advice via radio for any tricky sections. If you have no 4x4 dune experience, book this tour, you'll learn the ropes and have so much fun. And if you do have experience, book this tour, they take you to all the best spots, provide a great lunch, and make sure you don't get into any danger (would def NOT recommend going to this area without a guide). Overall a 10/10, pure awesome sauce from start to finish

Wonderful to hear you enjoyed the self drive Sandwich Harbour with Desert Dunes and Dust Tours. New park rules are that all self drives must be guided and may no longer go by themselves. We however believe you get to learn a lot about the area, get to the best views and do the best routes. It took me almost 40 years to do the Dune route and to fall in love with the area, we all grow up here and know Sandwich Harbour, but we never got to learn about this beautiful Route.
