Awesome tour to discover the heritage of Nizwa

Stephan_B, Feb 2026
This tour was perfect and I lucked out with a small group, large comfortable van and awesome driver who also acted as a guide. The Nizwa fort is not included in the visit but it’s well worth seeing and deprioritizing the souk. It took 45 minutes to see the fort which also had a live show with a make up traditional Imani small army (really a few dressed up soldiers). 15 minutes was plenty to see the souk and grab a few souvenirs. The van journey was great as you could listen to the pre-recorded narrated story of Nizwa and sites along the way through provided headsets. Lunch was lovely at a traditional Omani restaurant and the Jabreen fort guided visit was also really good. At last we saw another fort from the outside as stated in the Viator write-up. I did not feel rushed at anytime and fully enjoyed the entire tour. Additionally I had left a pretty expensive phone charger on my seat but the driver brought it back the next day after I contacted him and the local tour company which rarely happens this day so I was super grateful for that gesture, their honesty and integrity.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for your wonderful review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! We’re delighted you enjoyed the Nizwa Heritage & Culture Tour, the forts, the traditional lunch, and the narrated journey. We’re especially glad our driver/guide could make your experience memorable and return your charger—honesty and integrity are very important to us. We hope to welcome you again on another Omani adventure!

Most memorable experience

A good way to see the landscape and learn the history of the country. Our driver was very accomadating and pleasant Only a small group tour, but we all got along and appreciated the sights and experiences we shared

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Oman at its best

Peter_R, Jun 2025
I loved and learnt a lot on this tour. Enjoyed hearing the history re water supplies and great view of mountains.. I was the only person on this tour with my guide/driver Hamid, due it is the last tour of season. So thanks for operating this tour just for me. I was unable to see some of the attractions due a slight disability that makes it virtually impossible to climb rough steep steps at the Fort in Nizwa.etc , so got back early, through nobody's fault except mine. If you have a slight infirmity again check with operator before booking. I'll probably rent a car for long day tours so I can explore other options. Great value for money.Long distance. Lunch included at similar to a diner. Not rushed, the souque at Nizwa was good in the old part of town. The dates are good in fact was given a bag by one of the vendors for nothing. Felt a little embarrassed. My driver bought a supply and offered me dates till I had to politely refuse due unable to eat so many. Oman is a very friendly countrie where I feel safe as in all Gulf states

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! 🌟 We're truly happy to hear that you enjoyed the Nizwa Full Day Tour and appreciated the rich history, stunning mountain views, and warm hospitality along the way. We're especially glad that Hamid made your solo tour enjoyable and informative—it’s always our pleasure to run tours, even for just one guest, especially at the end of the season. We appreciate your honest note regarding accessibility, and we're grateful for your understanding. Your suggestion to check in advance for guests with mobility considerations is an important reminder, and we’ll make sure to continue guiding our future travelers accordingly. It’s also lovely to hear how much you enjoyed the Nizwa souq, the generous gesture from the vendor, and the kindness of your guide. Oman truly is a special place, and we’re glad you felt safe and welcomed throughout. Thank you once again for your kind words and valuable feedback. We hope to see you again on another adventure soon—perhaps with more flexibility for exploration at your own pace. 😊 Thank you again, Gray Line Sightseeing and Tours UAE & Oman team

Dear Viator Team,...

Alessandra_D, Apr 2025
Dear Viator Team, I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the tour we recently booked through your platform in Oman, which included stops at Birkat Al Mouz, Nizwa Fort, Jabreen Castle, and Bahla Fort. Unfortunately, the experience we had was far from what was promised in the tour description and did not justify the £80 per person fee we paid. First and foremost, our driver was not a guide at all — he barely spoke to us during the entire trip and did not provide any context, explanation, or insight about the places we were visiting. Additionally, no water was offered throughout the journey, despite long hours spent in the car under high temperatures, which is a basic expectation for this type of tour. Regarding the audio guide, the description stated it was included, but we were extremely disappointed to find that it only consisted of pre-recorded messages played while we were in the car. We had expected an audio guide to accompany us at the sites, perhaps with radios or some form of commentary during the visits. As a result, the in-car-only audio was almost entirely useless and added no real value to our experience. The stops themselves felt rushed and unstructured, as we were largely left to explore on our own without any support or guidance. The lunch provided was also very poor – it resembled a low-grade canteen, with the same bland dish served to everyone, lacking both variety and quality. Most disappointing of all, we did not get to visit the Nizwa Fort, which was supposed to be one of the key highlights of the tour. The description clearly mentioned we would spend about an hour at the site, and while it was stated that the entrance fee was not included, it was absolutely implied that we would at least be able to visit it on our own by purchasing tickets ourselves. Instead, we barely passed by the fort without even stopping, which felt truly misleading. In the end, this was barely a half-day tour in terms of actual value and content, and it felt completely unworthy of the price. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience, especially given the trust we placed in Viator. We strongly feel that a partial refund is warranted, and we kindly ask that you review this case and take appropriate action. I look forward to your response.

Khaleel Makes the Magic comes Alive!

Said_S, Nov 2024
I completed on 29th Oct a Muscat and Northern territories of Nizwa, Bahla and Janeed with Khaleel a first class and very professional, passionate and well informed (and looks like a F1 driver) tour guide who gave the group an absolute top rated touring experiences. Khaleel works with Gray Line Oman, if you are in Oman please get in touch with him you will never ever ever be disappointed and, like me and those in the group, you will want an extra day or two with Khaleel. He is absolutely amazing. A true ambassador for Oman, showing the best qualities of Oman people; loving, caring, professional, passionate, and always thinking of others' happiness, safety, and wellbeing. Thank you, Khaleel If there was an Oscars Award for Tour Guide he will probably definitely be top contender everytime🙏👌👍

Nice

Mrunalini_G, Mar 2024
Everything about the trip was good, right from the start to end. The only thing I would recommend is to allow more time at the Souq so that people can visit the Nizwa Fort.

Nicely organized trip...

Kentaro_O, Mar 2024
Nicely organized trip with very informative audio guide. Only wish I had was we could have spend more time each places so we explore each town more as we ended up coming back around 4pm instead of 6pm, which was the advertised ending time.

Great tour

Karen_E, Mar 2024
Good tour and we saw lots of interesting sites. Two forts and had an hour in nizwa. About 15 on our tour.

You get what you pay for. An efficient tour which they have got down pat. They pick you up on time, show you what was promised, a good lunch and then drop you off. Khaleel was a good, polite driver

Excellent day trip to ancient capital Nizwa

Michael_T, Jan 2024
Driver was excellent and punctual. The itinerary was great especially the hour in the Nizwa souq. Lunch was adequate. But the audio needs to be updated to reflect the death of Sultan Qaboos.

Response from Host, Jan 2024

Thank you, Michael, for your positive feedback on our excellent and punctual driver, the great itinerary, and the Nizwa souq experience. We appreciate your comments on lunch. We apologize for the oversight regarding the audio and will promptly update it to reflect recent events. Your input is valuable, and we look forward to improving your experience in the future.

Good tour to Nizwa area

Gabriel_L, Jan 2024
GrayLine provides good group tour around Muscat! Tour size is typically about 8 people, give or take. The van comes to pick people up at the hotel, and than it takes about 2 hours to get to Nizwa area for the tour. First stop was a photo stop at Birkat Al Mawz, which has beautiful mountains around and watch towers. Next stop is the Nizwa Souq, a market for 1 hr. I didn't spend time to the Souq; instead I visited the Nizwa Fort next door. The driver didn't give too much details on how to get to the fort. I depended on my Google Map and GPS to find it. The circular cannon tower provides great views of the surroundings. Then, we stopped for lunch, a basically local cuisine with grilled chicken, salad, bread, hummus, rice, and a drink...good enough to fill me up! Then we stopped at Bahia Fort for photos, and final stop was Jabreen Castle for 45 min. Overall, it was a good one day trip, and the area is beautiful. As for the tour, I think there are some opportunities for improvement, like giving us more guidance on where things are like at Nizwa Fort that would be helpful.

Response from Host, Jan 2024

It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed the group tour, Gabriel around Muscat with GrayLine! The landscapes and stops sound truly captivating. I appreciate your detailed feedback and apologize for any inconvenience with the guidance at Nizwa Fort. Your insights are incredibly valuable, and we'll work on enhancing our directions and information for better convenience on future tours. We're thrilled you found the local cuisine satisfying and that you had a good overall experience exploring the beautiful area. Thank you for choosing GrayLine, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon!

A nice day in Nizwa

massimo_m, Nov 2023
Satisfying experience, good organization. I appreciated the idea of the audio guide in the Van, on the way to Nizwa: very informative. And lunch was good as well.

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Dear Massi, Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us! We're delighted to hear that you found our tour satisfying with good organization. It's great to know that the audio guide in the van to Nizwa added value, providing informative insights. We're also pleased that you enjoyed the lunch. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we look forward to the opportunity of hosting you again for more enriching experiences in the future.

Nizwa and the Jabreen fort

Raluca_M, Feb 2023
It was a worthwhile day trip from Muscat. The road to Nizwa was also great, as we passed through arid mountains and oasis. Another plus was the recorded information available in the bus in multiple languages. Headsets were provided by the company.

Very good tour and tour guide

Faraz_C, Nov 2022
Khalil was a very good guide and the pick up from the hotel was prompt. Khalil was knowledge and friendly. Lunch was excellent.

Memorable for the wrong reasons

Susan, Feb 2020
Firstly. the driver Nasseem was very amicable and drove safely. However, this tour wasn't what it was advertised as. The pick up in the morning was laborious and tiring. It seemed to take a long time to get to Nizwa with smaller maybe unnecessary stops along the way. When we got to Nizwa, the Souqs were closing and some of them closed already and there isn't much else to see. We did not visit Nizwa fort.....the lunch meal included in the price was okay but not typically Omani. We went to Jabeel fort which I thought was beautiful. The Omani landscape is impressive throughout the drive but this was a very disappointing day trip unfortunately and quite expensive to boot!

Nizwa, worth the effort

Anthony_L, Dec 2019
Pick-up 8am to 8.30am Prompt, at 8am Only one other passenger, Enoch from HK. Whilst filling up with petrol, some random Omani guy clambered on board and he and the driver spoke loudly in Arabic. Almost drowning out the English audio. Turns out he's a tourguide in training. We should have been told. Good infrastructure in Oman. Dual carriageway through the mountains. First stop, walked up an incline to view a palm tree grove and abandoned 500yo village. Present day village name translates to "The Cool of the Bananas". Some Zanzibar architectural influences. IZWA SOUQ One hour in Nizwa. "No time to see the Fort (5 rials), yet there is always too much time for coffee, food-tasting and the set lunch ! Lunch was far too much food, which we wasted. I realise that the two drivers needed a break JABREEN CASTLE BAHLA CASTLE Bahla was home to the "Djinns" (Genies). A beautiful day ended in a rainy drive back to Muscat.

Good value

Saw main sites and guide even went out of way to show Wadi. Nice authentic lunch and safe driver. Would recommend

Best experience I've ever had

Curious00321866748, Jun 2019
Hi Thank you very much. It was an excellent adventure, from beginning to end. From the moment we were picked up by Illyas, our lovely Omani tour guide, and Dymitris, our lovely Ukrainian tour guide. The entire experience was phenomenal because of the Omani hospitality demonstrated by our guides. Their gentle demenours and accommodating natures put us immediately at ease and we thoroughly enjoyed being in their calming presence throughout the journey. I even went swimming in the Wadi Shab cave, which I never thought that I would do. But thanks to Dymitris' skills and professionalism, I felt confident and reached beyond my comfort zone. Adam

Un peu déçue

Sarah_E, Sep 2022
J’ai réservé cette excursion car voyageant seule, ça me coûtait moins chère.
