Our driver Janine was very cheerful and a great guide and assisted our host at the observatory bringing tasty snacks and drinks. The experience was different than I pictured but extremely enjoyed. I had expected a facility on a mountain, where this was a collection of many different telescopes in a private residence. We were able to see solar flares thru a solar scope prior to sundown! Then viewed various stars as they first appeared at twilight and more as it proceeded to darkness. Our host was very informative and energetic! We are very happy to have selected this tour!

We had a great evening with a fabulous host. The technical descriptions were of great interest.
The views through the telescopes were very good in spite of the unfortunate smoke in the sky from the brush fires. The wine and food was also delicious. We highly recommend the experience.

Had a great time. He is an avid amateur astronomer and his passion clearly shows. Not just the shear number of telescopes but his willingness to share his knowledge is wonderful!

This is a must do experience. Our host’s passion for the cosmos was infectious. We assumed we would travel to a rural area in the Andes but went about 45 min (with traffic) outside of Santiago to our host’s home. We were welcomed to his outdoor paradise and incredible telescope collection and the stargazing adventure began.
The wine was great as well as the appetizers. They even respected one or our party’s nut allergies by creating a separate selection for her. It was a magical evening. My wife and I went with our two adult Childers (in their 20s) and cousin. We are still talking about it and sharing our etherial photos.

Such an amazing experience! We had a driver come pick us up in Santiago, drive into the hills for 30mins, and we arrived at a wonderful private observatory where the hosts entertained us for over 3 hours! Damasco was simply wonderful, very knowledgeable and so passionate! His wife served us wonderful wine and snacks. Only wish that I knew of this tour earlier. Highly recommend!

The person leading the tour should really cancel the trip and not leave it up to the person to decide to continue with the experience. It was relayed to me that there may be “unfavorable conditions but it could change because you never know in September”. Once we get there he greeted us with “I don’t understand why you all came? Why are you here?”
Whoever was messaging me did not make it obvious that the astronomer was 100% we wouldn’t see anything/we shouldn’t come… they just cancel at that point because we then got dropped off and couldn’t leave for 3 hours. He gave us a tour of his property, hardly talked about the telescopes, or the observatory. He showed us moon picture on an app.
They were very nice and did give us snacks and drinks per the overview. However, it was pointless, I never would have gone had it been clear to me there was no chance of stars.

Hello Megan,
I'd like to provide some additional context to address the issues you've raised.
As mentioned earlier, our intention has always been to offer our guests a memorable and enjoyable experience, even when weather conditions pose challenges. We take pride in our proactive approach to communicating potential weather-related issues. In this case you have been contacted 48-hours before the start of the tour to inform you about the weather conditions, and Viator through which you booked your tour, offers you the option to cancel 24 hours in advance. This policy aims to empower guests to make informed decisions based on their preferences, which in this case was to have the experience and celebrate your husband’s birthday.
As mentioned on our website, we have a well-documented alternative tour for rainy days, which includes a tour of our private facilities and an opportunity to enjoy premium wine, homemade bread, cheese, and other refreshments. This alternative experience is designed to be a gourmet stargazing experience that offers a unique perspective on celestial objects, even when traditional stargazing is not possible due to weather.
I must admit that I find it disappointing to receive a negative review when we have made significant efforts to provide alternatives and accommodate your preferences. As a small business, we genuinely care about our guests' satisfaction, and I think your disappointment was more directed towards yourself. Also, I have been informed that our Astronomer has gifted you with a 120 USD sculpture, a poster of 50 USD and received you with a birthday cake for the occasion.
So, we sincerely do not find it correct to receive this negative review based on your decision after being well-informed about your tour options.
Regards,
Suzanne.

We began our expereince during a warm, sunny day seeing sun flares while sipping chilled chardonnay. Next, we viewed stars and planets. This was a very nice surprising start as the sun had not yet gone down. The night sky was amazing and in addition to stars, constellations and planets, we saw galaxies and nebulas. Amazing! Our host was delightful and we felt so fortunate that he would share his passion with us. And the wine and lovely snacks certainly added to the experience.

Thank you so much Debra sharing your wonderful experience on our stargazing Observatory Tour!

Amazing .
Dámaso, the expert , has an inspiring energy that mesmerizes .
I saw things that I had not seen. Stars, nebulas from another galaxy, Jupiter and its four moons, our moon, Venus, etc.
But the best was Dámaso and his love for the stars. His wife and daughter stopped by to say hello and to offer food . A night like no other.

The Star Gazing tour is was an amazing adventure. Our guide/driver, Felipe, was great-knowledgeable and very attentive. He talked about Chile and answered any questions that we had on the way to the observation point. Once there, our host for the evening took over and provided an absolutely enchanting evening. We looked at solar flares, plants, nebula, and stars while sipping wine and nothing on the largest cheese plate I have ever seen! It was an evening we will long remember.
I also want to acknowledge Suzanne, the owner of this company. She helped us out with an issue on a different tour and I have nothing but respect for her. Book with this company, you will enjoy a quality tour.

Driver never picked us up. We tried to reach the company. No one ever called us even the day after. Give us our money back!
Response from Host, Mar 2022
Dear Nancy,
Unfortunately we have never received the booking form via Viator otherwise we would have been more than happy to have confirmed the tour with you and picked you up. I see in the system that you have been automatically refunded and I apologise for any inconvenience. I hope you have enjoyed your further travels in Chile.

When I first booked this trip I thought it was quite expensive. But it was worth every penny. Travel arrangements were spot on. Was surprised it was in someones back garden, but what a back garden! The host was welcoming on arrival and treated us like one of the family. Arrived in daylight so started off looking at solar flares which we had never seen before. Moved on to daylight stars before the sun finally set revealing an incredible array of stars and planets in the night sky. All viewed through a dazzling array of telescopes. Then the full moon appeared and, just WOW! All this was achieved with the help of our wonderful host, who took the time, effort and obvious joy to explain the heavens. The evening was just like a group of old friend getting together for wine and nibbles and incredible views. Thank you for making our last night in Santiago so unforgettable.
Response from Host, Feb 2020

We are so happy you were able to travel to the moon and back and have an amazing evening to zoom out of life and bring things into perspective:-) Quite an experience right?!
See you on a next trip to Chile!
Safe travels,
Suzanne.

If you are going to be in Santiago, do this. Period. A once in a lifetime experience you will never forget. Even if you have no interest in stars or planets you will love it. You will meet an incredibly charming and entheusiastic host, who takes care of your every need, is ebuillent and effusive and full of joy and wonder. Really, just do it. It may seem expensive, but cheaper than disneyland, and moch more memorable.
