Pablo was an incredible guide! He was kind, knowledgeable, and fun. He not only guided us through the forest to the waterfalls but also informed us about interesting history and did not let us miss out on any of the beauty. The hike itself was stunning and the waterfalls were breathtaking!! Definitely a top tier experience!!

Chamba was an amazing tour guide! The hike is challenging but the waterfalls are worth it. We had plenty of time at them to cool off, explore, and rest before heading back up. Definitely pack a lot of water and wear comfortable shoes. The views are beautiful and the drive up from El Tunco was short and scenic.

This hike was amazing, and I definitely recommend it! Our guide, Chamba, picked us up from our Airbnb in Surftown. (Chamba is the best! If he’s your tour guide, you’re in great hands.) He drove us up to the waterfalls and even stopped at some stores when we asked for water and Gatorade. The hike was absolutely stunning. I suggest being a bit in shape to do it. It was a little physically challenging, but if you’re a prior athlete or train, you should be perfectly fine. The rainforest was stunning. I highly recommend wearing shoes with good grip because the trail can get really slippery. I made the mistake of wearing tennis shoes, so I definitely don’t recommend that.

    Beautiful Waterfalls

    The hike is definitely...

    Suzana_J, Feb 2026
The hike is definitely challenging, but absolutely doable. The trail is well worth the effort. Reaching the waterfall at the end feels incredibly rewarding — and being able to cool off in the refreshing water makes all the hard work completely worthwhile.

    Beautiful

The best tour guide ever- Chamba! Such a beautiful site to see. The hike is not for the faint of heart but it was well worth it to experience the falls and all of the natural beauty.

    Beautiful scenery and fun excursion

Great experience! definitely a steep climb and should be in shape to do this comfortably... its steep and hot with a lot of elevation gain

    A couple key points:...

    Dina_V, Feb 2026
A couple key points: Despite under read more in the itinerary that you will get picked up from San Salvador that is not true. An Uber will cost you around $30 to get down to El Tunco. Hiking back up is approximately 835 feet in elevation. This is a moderate to difficult height so be prepared. We started off with 11 people going down and only four people made it back up. The other six needed to pay an additional $25 each to get picked up by a truck to get back to our tour van. Pablo was great but he definitely walks too fast. The waterfall was beautiful, I wish we could’ve spent more time there.

    Amazing experience...

Amazing experience overall! The hike is nice and a little challenging but super rewarding once there. The waterfalls are stunning! Also Pablo, the guide, is such a nice chill gentleman and made the experience much better! Highly recommended

    Amazing Waterfall Experience

    Mai_V, Jun 2024
For someone who is not a hiker, the trek to and from the waterfall is challenging for sure, but it is totally doable and totally worth it once you get to the falls. It was so visually beautiful and refreshing to swim in after the hike in. Chamba and Freddie were so kind and let me go at my pace. I can’t recommend Tunco Life Tours as your waterfall hike guides enough—such a wonderful team! Muchas gracias!

    Beautiful waterfalls, great guide!

    Keara_M, Apr 2024
Hike was beautiful down to the waterfalls. Chamba was a fantastic tour guide, showed us some amazing cliff jumping spots. Overall, fantastic experience. The hike back up was challenging for sure, but for the views and experience, it was well worth it!

THE HIKE TO THE WATERFALL IS NOT 20 MINS!

    Jessica_P, Mar 2024
I want to first state and make clear, the hike (not walk) is NOT 20 minutes as indicated in the tour description. It is more like 50 mins to an hour long hike over a rocky terrain. I would only recommend this for anyone in top physical condition, with no muscle or joint issues. I also recommend that you wear appropriate foot wear with ankle support. The walk to and from the waterfall is very challenging and rocky. You will need your core, arms, and legs for balance and support. On the way to the waterfall, you are walking down hill, however, be careful not to slip on the rocks or narrow paths. After visiting the waterfalls you have to walk 50 plus mins back up! Also, there are many stray dogs along the path. They are very friendly sweet dogs, but they will run or brush past you while you are attempting to hike over the rocks. Our guide was kind and friendly. The waterfall is very nice and beautiful. There are a few places along the hike to buy bottled water if needed.

    Excellent experience

Had a great experience on this tour! The guides were so helpful and friendly. The hike was strenuous (especially leaving) but you’re going to a waterfall on the side of a mountain so what can you expect?

    Tamanique waterfalls

    Keon_M, Nov 2023
The waterfalls were absolutely beautiful and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and patient with us and showed us everything about the hike. The hike however was not for the weak nor for anyone out of shape. You basically have to go back up a MOUNTAIN one hour to get back to the streets which u definitely need to be in shape for. I am in somewhat good shape and it was still difficult. Despite the hike back up the mountain being hard the views were amazing and the guide was very good ..

    Top Experience in El Salvador

    Meagan_S, Mar 2023
Not only was this an incredible experience but our guide was amazing and one of the nicest people I met. The hike was tough but the guides made sure to accommodate all levels. We saw some gorgeous waterfalls and beautiful scenery. The best part, unlike other experiences I’ve taken, was they were punctual. They communicated what time they would arrive, arrives at that exact time and dropped us off right when the time was up. No more no less. Would absolutely recommend Tunco Life and all their excursions.
