Best way to see the stunning Komodo National Park. We had a great time on a very comfortable live aboard for 2 nights/days. Our kids (11 and 8) loved everything except getting out of bed for the sunrise hike! The crew were discrete and friendly and the guide was very informative.

Poorly Executed Tour, but Interesting Sites

DeeSmith, May 2026
We had a very disappointing experience for the following reason: (1) on the boat we had a sleeping cabin with one split cot-double bed and a cot sized bunk bed and only room for one person to stand. The beds were nothing more than plastic cot mattresses . The sleeping cabin had windows on the front and back walls with curtains that only went 2/3 way down, while the glass in the door did not have any covering. There was no room to maneuver, no privacy and bright gunnel lights at night. We each had one thin towel. The wet bath consisted of a toilet that you had to scoop water into for flushing. It did not have a sink. The water was also regularly turned off so you would have to ask for it to be turned on so that you could wash your hands with the shower head or to take a shower. We were relegated to the front of the boat that had two wooden bench seats with a table. It was very uncomfortable and not relaxing, plus the captains station faced the table and he smoked the entire time. (2) The guide left a lot to be desired. First he did not even introduce us to the crew. He spoke softly, laughed 1/2 way through a sentence, and was very hard to understand. Often his answers did not match our question. He sat at the table with us the entire time we were sitting at the table and at times also included his “friend” (that is how he was introduced and not part of the company) that he brought along. Most of the time he was deeply engrossed on his phone. On outings, such as the beach, he would send his friend to follow us, so we never had alone on the entire trip unless we went to our “fishbowl” cabin. I made it clear three times that I was upset, yet he never asked why or what could be changed. (3) The sights were amazing. The snorkeling spots were beautiful with many different types of healthy coral and interest fish. Certainly a must do when visiting. The Komodo experience on Komodo Island was great and we saw plenty of Komodo’s, including the biggest one. The ranger was very interesting and knowledgeable. Rica Island with more dragons was somewhat disappointing, since for a hefty entrance fee, you basically made a big circle to saw a few dragons. The flying foxes were really cool to watch with an astounding number in flight; well worth seeing. In conclusion, I wish that timing had not so rigid (arrival and departure times at each site was timed to the minute), since we were the only clients on the boat. Also constantly having his friend walk two feet behind us was very annoying. If we had to do it over again, we would stay at a hotel near the port (cute area) and take a one day boat trip to the three major sites that are easily reachable (Komodo Island, one or two snorkeling sites, and the flying foxes at dusk).

Dear DeeSmith, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your Komodo Island boat tour experience. We truly appreciate both your positive comments about the breathtaking scenery, snorkeling spots, Komodo dragon encounters, and flying fox experience, as well as your honest concerns regarding the onboard accommodations and guiding service. We are sorry to hear that some aspects of the trip did not meet your personal expectations. We would like to clarify for future travelers that this tour was operated using a standard AC boat category, which is designed as a budget-friendly adventure experience rather than a luxury liveaboard. Cabin sizes, bathroom systems, and onboard facilities on standard boats in Komodo National Park can be more compact and traditional compared to hotel-style or premium phinisi cruises. That said, guest comfort and hospitality remain very important to us, and we sincerely apologize if you felt uncomfortable during parts of the journey. Your comments regarding cabin privacy, onboard setup, communication, and guide interaction have been shared internally as valuable feedback for improvement. We are very happy to hear that despite these concerns, you still enjoyed the highlights of Komodo National Park — including seeing multiple Komodo dragons, beautiful coral reefs, colorful marine life, and the unforgettable flying foxes at sunset. These natural experiences are truly what make Komodo tours so special for travelers visiting Flores, Indonesia. For future guests, we always recommend carefully choosing the boat category that best fits their travel style, comfort preferences, and expectations, as we offer both standard AC boats and more premium private or luxury Komodo cruise options. Thank you once again for your feedback. We genuinely value every review as an opportunity to improve and continue providing memorable Komodo Island experiences for our guests.

Dear Jon_N, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that your family had such a memorable experience exploring the stunning Komodo National Park with us. A 3-days, 2-nights liveaboard is truly one of the best ways to discover the beauty of Komodo—from breathtaking landscapes and crystal-clear waters to unforgettable wildlife encounters. It’s especially rewarding to know that your kids enjoyed the adventure (even if the sunrise hike was a bit early 😊). We’re also glad you found the boat comfortable and our crew friendly and attentive. Our guides always aim to provide informative and engaging experiences, so your kind words mean a lot to the entire team. Thank you again for choosing us for your Komodo liveaboard trip. We hope to welcome you and your family back for another adventure in the future!

Superb boat and land tour of the Komodo Islands with Bintang Komodo Tours!

Richard_J, Sep 2024
We had the most amazing tour of the Komodo and surrounding islands with Bintang Komodo Tours! Communication for the planning of the tour with the operator was easy and efficient. Our guide on the boat part of the tour, Rian, was a real expert in helping us to understand and experience all that this amazing area has to offer. The boat was large and comfortable with AC if needed and a crew of 5, each of whom would always smile brightly whenever you said a hello or a thank you. We found the bathroom and shower perfectly adequate - yes it is basic but quite typical of a simple boat and just fine. The meals cooked onboard were absolutely delicious, very varied and were adjusted to our dietary requirements. We learned so much from Rian about the islands, the wildlife and life on Flores, it was always a joy spending time with him. The snorkeling was spectacular, Rian made sure we saw manta rays up close, lots of turtles, so many colorful fish and beautiful corals. He really knew where the best and quietest spots to snorkel were. The Komodo dragons fill you with awe and we saw many! We saw the sky filled with flying foxes leaving their roosts in the mangroves for feeding on fruit on Flores Island at sunset, literally many 1000s of them! The 4th day was spent on land seeing more of Flores Island, hiking to a remote waterfall high in the mountains followed by a boat trip to a cave, both of these required a reasonable degree of agility and fitness. We met so many local people and children with beaming smiles eager to practice their English and learn about us. Flores is truly a magical place that we will never forget. Hands down, this was one of the very best tours we have ever done and would do again in a heartbeat - we will be back!

I'm thrilled that our communication made the planning easy and that Rian, along with the rest of the crew, provided an exceptional and warm service throughout your journey. It's great to hear that the boat was comfortable for you and that the meals catered to your dietary needs, adding to your enjoyment. We’re especially glad that Rian's knowledge and expertise enhanced your snorkeling experience—getting up close with manta rays, turtles, and vibrant marine life is truly something magical! The Komodo dragons, flying foxes, and the beautiful landscapes of Flores clearly left an impact, and I’m so happy you experienced all the wonders of the area with us. Thank you for sharing your special moments of meeting the local people and hiking to the waterfall and cave—it sounds like you fully embraced the magic of Flores! We can’t wait to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventure. It was a pleasure having you on board! Warmest regards, Suzana Bintang Komodo Tours

Best snorkeling of my life!

Federico_G, Aug 2024
We had a really beautiful experience!! The ship was amazing and the staff very kind and professional and we found a very special chef who cooked amazing food on the boat. We where lucky enough to see almost all the animals we where looking for, did a lot of snorkeling in amazing places with sea turtles, little sharks, stingrays and more! Our guide Alfys was absolutely one of the best guides we ever met, very nice and gentle, well prepared and professional for our experience. Thanks to him and the captain we also made some little change in the schedule to avoid stormy weather, without even loosing the Padar Island sunrise! Totally recommended and we hope to make something similar again in the future! Federico & Giovanna

Great sights and snorkeling. Not great boat

David_R, Aug 2024
The highlights of the tour would be snorkeling with Manta rays and turtles and seeing Komodo dragons up close. The coral and fish were amazing, the colours and abundance. Great smiling crew, who although couldn't communicate in English excelled in humour and aid. Our guide Yeri with the assistance of the Captain assured our early arrival at each site to ensure we weren't swamped with a multitude of other tourists. The lowlights would be the comfort level of the beds and toilet. The food likewise was substandard. Day 4 could be missed out easily as the cave and waterfall were underwhelming. Our guide Vian was excellent as was our driver Oncik. Overall good but could be much better

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear David_R, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your experience. We’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed some of the highlights of the trip, especially snorkeling with manta rays and sea turtles and seeing the Komodo dragons up close in Komodo National Park. The underwater life around Komodo is truly spectacular, so it’s wonderful to know that you appreciated the colorful coral reefs and the abundance of tropical fish during your snorkeling sessions. We’re also glad that our crew’s positive attitude and helpfulness contributed to your experience, and we will certainly share your kind words with Yeri, Vian, and our captain. Arriving early at key locations such as Komodo Island is something we always try to do so guests can enjoy the destinations before larger crowds arrive. At the same time, we truly appreciate your constructive comments regarding the comfort of the beds, the bathroom facilities, and the food. Feedback like this is very valuable for us, and we will review these aspects carefully with our team to continue improving the overall experience for future guests exploring Komodo National Park. Regarding the cave and waterfall visit near Labuan Bajo, we understand that each traveler’s expectations can be different. However, we include these locations to provide guests with a variety of landscapes and activities beyond the islands and snorkeling spots. Thank you again for joining our tour and for sharing both the positives and areas for improvement. We truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again for an even better adventure in Komodo in the future. 🌴🚤

Fantastic trip in the Komodo islands

Srikantaiah_m, Mar 2023
We had a lovely time. The weather cooperates everywhere. Snorkeled with manta rays and turtles, watched a Komodo hint, kill and eat a boar in the wild, visited padar island and the pink beach all with the help of a friendly crew that fed us fantastic food based on our preferences. Thanks to Mr Doddy Kardi who managed the trip and Mr Yanto who took us around everywhere.

Response from Host, May 2023

It sounds like you had an incredible time on your trip! Swimming with manta rays and turtles must have been an unforgettable experience. It's great to hear that Mr. Doddy Kardi and Mr. Yanto were able to make your trip enjoyable and memorable. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Viator be specific on details check exactly what you get before you book

Neil_K, Jul 2022
ok the views are stunning and the guide Alvin great but this was book as a three night trip as soon as we arrive we are told we have to book the third night at our expense at a hotel very deceptive and totally unhelpful

Response from Host, Jul 2022

Dear Neil, We are really sorry for this. But you can read what is included and what is excluded on our product page in Viator. It is clearly stated that this is excluded: Entrance fee to the National, Gratuities, entrance fee in Waterfall and Water cave, Soft drinks and alcoholic drinks, Flight ticket, Hotel for last night. But we are happy you had a nice time despite this bad feeling about the additional hotel cost.
