Itinerary

After pickup from your south-, east-, or west-coast Rhodes hotel, travel by air-conditioned vehicle to the 600-acre Valley of the Butterflies and see thousands of them flittering around the valley.

Then head to Kamiros Scala port and board your shared boat for your crossing to Chalki, the smallest inhabited island in the Dodecanese archipelago, about 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) west of Rhodes.

Soak in the breezes and as you approach this picture-perfect island, admire the harbor town: a vision of pastel-shaded buildings set in terraces between a bay and rugged mountains.

Step ashore and get a briefing on Chalki’s attractions, including its beaches. Several are accessible by foot, while others are reachable by small boats rented from the harbor (additional cost). Then, simply relax and explore as you please, with activities, meals, and drinks at your own expense.

Perhaps start at the harborside, dipping into coffee houses and shops, admiring the pretty Church of St. Nicholas and Clock Tower, and enjoying lunch (own expense) at a waterside taverna.

Alternatively, discover the island's interior of fig groves, whitewashed chapels, and goat pens, or head for a beach like the nearby sands of Pontamos, a 10-minute walk away.

Finally, catch your afternoon boat back to Kamiros Skala, where a return transfer to your hotel concludes your trip.
