Itinerary

After being picked up from your central Cafayate hotel, meet your guide and small group of no more than 8 people, and set off on the short journey to the Quebrada de las Conchas reservation. Keep your camera close to hand as you wind your way along the Río de las Conchas, into the heart of the canyon, then catch your first glimpse of the reserve’s dramatic multi-colored cliffs.

Set out to view some of the reservation’s most memorable landmarks, combining short periods of hiking, with sections traveled by vehicle. Pause to admire the imposing Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) and the aptly nicknamed Anfiteatro (Amphitheater), as your guide explains the region’s unique geology, sculpted over millions of years.

Continue to La Punilla, where the unusual rock formations offer ample photo opportunities; Los Castillos (the Castles), where the striking red rocks are reminiscent of a castle; and La Yesera, renowned for its fish fossils.

After around three hours exploring the extraordinary landscapes, return to Cafayate, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Hiking

Leida_C, Dec 2024
This was not a hiking trip as advertised. We made several stops to look at things which I had already done on another tour. This was way overpriced and not what it was advertised to be. I did the same thing with an English speaking guide for a third of the price. This guide wasn’t even English speaking. Did I mention how overpriced this was?

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Dear Leida, We sincerely regret that your experience on the Quebrada de las Conchas Hiking from Cafayate tour did not meet your expectations, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. This tour is designed as a combination of panoramic driving segments, interpretive stops at key landmarks, and a final trekking section through a less-traveled area, intended to provide a more direct connection with the natural surroundings. It is an accessible experience that blends stunning landscapes, cultural interpretation, and moderate physical activity. We are sorry if the prior description was not sufficiently clear and will take your comments into account to improve the way we communicate this experience. Regarding the guide, we sincerely apologize if the agreed language was not provided. We always aim to assign guides who speak the requested language, and we will review this situation internally to prevent similar issues in the future. Despite this specific concern, this tour is often highly appreciated for offering a well-rounded view of one of the most iconic landscapes in northern Argentina, combining nature, geology, and local history in a truly unique setting. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for any further clarification. Thank you once again for your time and trust. Best regards, Tangol Tours
