If you're in Almaty and have a day in hand this is a great way to spend it. We (group of 5 colleagues) booked as we had heard about the canyon but didn't know anything beyond that and had a fantastic surprise. Our guide, Minara was absolutely excellent, she picked us up at the hotel and was an absolute mine of information, giving an insight on what it is like to live in Almaty, Kazakh customs and history as well as some great recommendations about other things we could see and do. Her English and French were impeccable and she was so kind.
On route we picked up lunch from a local cafe (would definitely recommend the lagman) which we took away and ate in the canyon. The walk was beautiful and definitely not too strenuous, well worth it for the atmosphere and the photos. On the way back Minara and the driver dropped us back at the green bazar to give us a bit of time to explore and had some great dinner (and chocolate) recommendations. All of us would definitely recommend, particularly if Minara is your guide!
