Tomio our guide is a kind , and intelligent person who shared his local knowledge and history about Kakunodate, and Akita area . We did a private tour with him and went to the Samurai district and had delicious local delicacies and drove to Lake Tawa and several Shinto shrines . I highly recommend him as a guide . We would not have easily found any of these on our own and he made it fun and effortless .

My tour guide was knowledgeable and patient as he led me around the Samuri Street area, answering questions I asked about the exhibits but allowing me to set the pace. Afterwards , we got lunch at his recommended location and then headed out to view a few locations around a lake and some stores that were along the way. I doubt I would have ever stopped at the stores had I been driving though this area myself, so I appreciate the little things he was able to show me like that. Overall it was an excellent experience and I’m glad to have done it.

A beautiful hidden pocket of a past era, lucky enough to survive the bombings of WWII. Tomio is a delightful guide, and steered us towards the best details. Be sure to have some udon noodles at the cafe!
