Top Hobart Arts & Design

Discover the past and modern-day highlights of Hobart on a 3-hour tour that combines a city history tour with a look around Salamanca and Battery Point.

Combine two top Hobart experiences with this tour package. Admire the Tasmanian capital from the summit of Mount Wellington, then experience a different kind of beauty at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), one of Australia’s newest and most controversial art museums with a varied collection including Egyptian mummies and edgy contemporary installations. Hotel pickup adds convenience to your day.

At 10.15am, journey to Mona in the Posh Pit—the ferry’s lavish private lounge, bar and deck—devour complimentary canapés and beverages on the thirty minute voyage along the River Derwent. As you jump off the ferry, meet your Mona Host on the jetty landing, who will escort you to the Void Bar, introduce you to the bartender and get you sorted with a cocktail to fortify yourself for a quick plunge into the nearby galleries. After some art, you’ll arrive in the museum’s Faro Bar and Restaurant for a feast from rockstar executive chef Vince Trim—including fancy matched drinks from Mona’s wine cellar and access to Event Horizon, James Turrell’s neuron-tingling light artwork. At 3pm, your host will escort you to The Source Restaurant—for sweeping views, a final sip, and a special gift, before you head back underground. Suitably addled/prepared, you’ll explore David Walsh’s subterranean collection of art and antiquities before slipping back onto the ferry (further snacks, drinks).

Start your adventure at the Hobart Zoo, where you can hand-feed free-roaming kangaroos and come face-to-face with the legendary Tasmanian Devil during their morning feeding presentation. Next, head to Salamanca Place, the historic heart of the capital. Stroll past magnificent 1830s Georgian sandstone warehouses, browse boutique artisan galleries, and enjoy a premium local lunch in this vibrant waterfront precinct. In the afternoon, explore the world-famous MONA (Museum of Old and New Art). Descend into its subterranean labyrinth to experience thought-provoking contemporary art and immersive installations at your own pace. Finally, ascend Mt Wellington (kunanyi). From the 1,271-meter summit, enjoy an unmatched, panoramic bird’s-eye view of Hobart, the Derwent River, and the Southern Ocean before a comfortable descent back to the city. Please note: Tour is unavailable on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Check dates before booking!

Escape Hobart for an active day of rainforest, waterfalls and local Tasmanian flavours. Explore Mount Field National Park on foot, walking beneath towering eucalypts and ancient rainforest to Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Lady Barron Falls. The afternoon becomes a relaxed Derwent Valley Tasting Trail, with the chance to sample Tasmanian cider, local wine, berries and seasonal produce. With a maximum of just 13 guests and a nature-based local guide, the experience stays personal, relaxed and social. The walking is active and rewarding without being an extreme hiking experience, with plenty of time to stop, take photos and appreciate the rainforest around you.
