Historical tour of areas involved in the World War II Battle of Cassino. Knowledgeable tour guide conveniently picks you up at the train station.

Anna our guide was fantastic with all her knowledge. She met us at the railway station so we did not have to try and navigate our way to our guide. We travelled in a van all over Cassino stopping at strategic points to give perspective of the battle! There is quite a few steps to the monastery so wear comfortable shoes! Bring water as you are out for three hours!

How lovely to meet Anna, who's knowledge, explanations and interest in the events setting Cassino in 1944 are exemplary. The tour is well worth half a day off your time, as she takes you round some of the key places involved. We really enjoyed the tour, especially my mum, who dad was involved in the second battle.

Anna was very knowledgeable about the whole campaign, especially tailored to your nationality of interest. A very personal approach which had me fully engaged throughout the whole tour.

I had searched out this tour specific for the guides expertise and she did not disappoint. My partners father fought in WWII here and she has so many details and was able to provide visuals of what it would have been like for the boys...because they were boys fighting and dying here. Particularly appreciated the extra suggestions for visiting on our own the monuments in town.

Anna was very knowledgeable about the battle and the area around Monte Cassino and I learned a lot from her. She was also very pleasant and helpful.

This is a must for all world war 2 buffs. Our tour guide took us to all the important sites for world war 2 and explained the history of each site

Just an incredible experience with some one who was very passionate and knowledgable about the history of the area.

Anna met us on time at the train station in Cassino. Her knowledge of the battle and the surrounding area was incredible. When she found out that my father was a Polish soldier who fought there, she made sure to point out the Polish Cemetery to us. She dropped my husband and I off at the Polish Cemetery at the end of the tour (we knew that this was not included in the tour), and she made sure that we knew what time a bus would return us to the train station in Cassino.
We would recommend this tour 100%. Anna was amazing! Thank you

Expect to be informed by the excellent Dr Anna; moved by the tragic loss of life and Awed by the beauty of Monte Cassino Abbey.

With only 6 people on a tour, there is scope for plenty of personal attention for questions and specific interests. Anna was kind enough to research the NZ machine gunners' contribution and battle positions for our tour, as we'd given her a bit of notice.
Anna was exceptionally knowledgeable and informative. Her opinions on General Mark Clark were in line with my late grandfather's!
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Thanks! 😁😁 Mark Clark Will be Happy to know how much we remember him....
Thanks again!

Excellent tour. Small group. Anna was full of interesting facts and anecdotes. We got a really good sense of the various battles and battle strategies. The war graves were very moving and the monestry (story and re-build) was amazing: Anna brought everything to life. Perfect.

Our guide, Anna was very knowledgeable and gave us a running commentary of the WW II Mont Cassino Battlefield.
The highlight was a tour of The Abbey at Mont Cassino.

This small group tour was one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences of our trip to Italy. Guided by the exceptionally knowledgeable Anna Priora, we were taken through the history of the Battle of Monte Cassino with both scholarly insight and deep respect.
The Experience: Travelling by a comfortable small bus after we took a train to Cassino from Rome, we visited several key sites including a panoramic viewpoint of the valley, the Commonwealth War Cemetery, and the Monte Cassino Abbey. At each location, Anna provided rich historical context, thoughtfully explaining the military strategies, sacrifices, and broader significance of the battle.
What set this tour apart was the ample time allowed at each site and the opportunity to ask questions and engage in more in-depth conversations. Anna's ability to tailor her commentary to the group’s interests made the tour feel intimate and personalized.
For our family, the experience was especially poignant—my father stood on the battlefield where his own father had fought. Anna’s respectful and informed guidance added a profound layer to this moment, one we will never forget.
In Summary: If you have a personal or historical interest in World War II, this tour is an outstanding choice. Anna brings both passion and precision to her work, and her ability to connect the past to the present makes the tour not only educational, but deeply human.
Highly recommended for history enthusiasts, families with veterans in their lineage, or anyone seeking a thoughtful exploration of this pivotal site in Italy’s wartime history.

A brilliant tour around Cassino examining the positions of the Allies and the Axis forces during the 4 battles of 1944. Then a drive up to the famous monastery at Monte Cassino and a look round at the incredible restoration and rebuilding of the monastery after it was destroyed. The views were simply amazing. Anna was a great tour guide with so much information about the battles and was very accomodating for any requests during the tour. Thank you Anna!
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Thanks Jonathan It was a pleasure to tour with you!

What a wonderful experience. Anna has so much information about what happened here. Not only is she a historian but she's a local and adds personal family information. She is so personable and friendly, the time just flies by. I would absolutely do a tour with her again and encourage anyone interested to do a tour with Anna.

Anna Priora is a brilliant tour guide. She provided a tremendous amount of background to the actual battle and highlighted various sites which allowed a visual perspective of the battlegrounds which added to the overall experience.. The tour material, as presented by Anna, was never boring and her continuing commentary was very informative. Finally, Anna's pleasant demeanor and sense of humor greatly enhanced the overall experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the Battle of Montecasino.

Ana was an excellent Tour guide! She picked us up right on time and delivered us back to the train station on time. Travel by train from Rome was easy and tool 1:45 - 2 hours. One thing to note is that Cassino is unlike other European battlefield sites that I have been to in that there are not museums and battlefield relics (e.g., bunkers, artillery, tanks, etc) around the town of Cassino. So, this is more of tour that shows the overall view of where the battle took place. The view from the monestary is beautiful....

Anna was fantastic , so knowledgeable & friendly .
We were on the tour with 2 NZ guys who were also great company .
Everything Anna said either confirmed what my father told me or answered queries I’d had for many years .
What brave boys they all were & we should never forget throughout the generations what they did for us all .
I’d love to return in the future with my children & would without doubt want Anna as our tour guide
Thanks so much

Anna was so amazingly knowledgeable about everything pertaining to WWII. So much that it made it easy to understand and follow every piece of information she shared with us. We got lucky and pretty much had a private tour since it was only the two of us that were booked and her and my husband were able to have amazing conversations that he hasn't been able to have with anyone. If I could rate her and this tour higher I would in a heartbeat.
John_A, Jul 2024
This was a fantastic tour. Anna clearly has a very excellent knowledge about the battles of WW2
Anna went far beyond a tourist guide and the full impacts to all sides she described impacts and politics of the time.
A most enjoyable visit.

Anna met us at train station. She took us to great locations. All along Anna shares her knowledge going to different sites.
She was very knowledgeable about World War II and has very detailed knowledge of Cassino/ Monte Cassino, both regarding the battle, the monastery and the people of Cassino.
Highly recommended.
