Such a fun experience with Chef Andres and Maya. The food was amazing and lots of laughs with the chef. You can be hands on or just sit and enjoy your sangria. Had a great time meeting other people and mingling in the class. Would definitely take this class again!

  • This interactive cooking class is perfect for foodies
  • Cook multiple dishes: Learn to make tapas, seafood paella, and sangria
  • Enjoy the meal afterwards, with recipes to take home
  • Choose from morning, lunch, mid-afternoon, or dinner classes

What To Expect

Begin your Spanish culinary adventure with a guided tour of La Boqueria, one of Barcelona’s fresh food markets, where your chef selects fresh seafood and introduces you to the vibrant flavors and aromas of local produce.

Then, just a short walk away, arrive at your cooking school in the El Born district—complete with an open kitchen, workshop bar, and cozy restaurant-style seating. Kick things off by preparing your own pintxos (a variety of classic Spanish finger foods) alongside flowing sangria.

Under the guidance of your bilingual chef, prepare a traditional seafood paella, learning each step from scratch before letting it simmer to perfection. While your main dish cooks, take part in a hands-on sangria-making workshop, mixing your own fresh and fruity jugs of the classic Spanish drink to enjoy with your meal.

Once the paella is ready, sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labor. A non-seafood alternative is available for those with dietary restrictions, and the chef is happy to accommodate food allergies or special requirements.

To wrap up your experience, receive a set of recipes and cooking tips to take home.

We had the most fun cooking with Luca. This was hands-down the best experience that we had in Barcelona. The tapas were wonderful and so was the sangria. Luca taught us things we have never heard of before. The paella was amazing! We would have done this cooking experience twice if we were not leaving the next day. I would recommend this event to anyone!

This a a great experience! The chef gave wonderful details about the traditional dish and he was so knowledgeable. I loved that we got to walk through the city at night and stopped along the way at the market!

A culinary experience!

Clare_O, Oct 2026
Excellent class! Alex was incredibly informative and had a fantastic way of explaining both the dish (paella) and the history of Barcelona as we walked through the city. I would highly recommend this experience. I booked it as a birthday present for my partner, and it was the highlight of his trip to Barcelona!

Great interactive cooking class. Good for all ages. We had a mixed international group that quickly became friends while we learned and made paella. We bonded over dinner and class. So much fun

An experience everyone who enjoys preparing and eating good food with fun people

Martha_S, Oct 2026
For me the best life has to offer is preparing a meal and enjoying that meal with good people. Learning to make paella with this chef and with the fun group was an experience I will not forget. I especially enjoyed going to the market to pickup the seafood.

Pa-Yay!-a.

It was a great experience. Alex was an informative tour guide and primo chef/ teacher. The result was fantastic and I am almost certain that my reaction was not influenced by the freely-flowing sangria!

Barceloma Interactive Spanish cooking Course

Good experience overall. Learnt a lot. The chef seemed to be in a bit of a hurry, particularly at the markets and preparing for the next course. Quite a long walk from the meeting place to the kitchen.

Spanish Cooking Class – Very Mixed Experience

Carsten_W, Sep 2026
The local chef was excellent — very experienced, authentic, and knowledgeable. He gave a genuinely interesting talk about the history of paella, the different preparation methods, and ingredients. The paella itself was very good and worth recommending on its own. However, for a group of 9 people booked as a team event, the level of interaction was extremely limited. We could choose to cut some vegetables or prepare the prawns, which took no more than 5–10 minutes. The rest of the time we watched, received drinks, and the chef cleaned up. It was entertaining, but far too passive to be called a cooking class — and not individualised in any way. The biggest issue, unfortunately, was cleanliness. Cockroaches were running across the kitchen countertop, the floor, and even over the tapas that had been served — to the point where we stopped eating them. Some of the wine glasses provided for sangria were visibly dirty. The kitchen area itself appeared to be cleaned only superficially; under the cabinets, spills had clearly not been wiped up. No pest control measures were visible. Pest problems may be common in the old town, but the state of the premises suggested that the issue had simply been accepted rather than addressed. It is a shame, as the chef's skill and knowledge deserve a better setting. As it stands, the experience is not worth the price — entertaining to a degree, but lacking in hands-on participation, personalisation, and basic hygiene standards.

Cook great but class was overbooked food was exceptional! Loved the food market

Santiago was amazing, and very communicative. We enjoyed a private dining experience with Sangria, cooking lessons and tapas. Be careful when scheduling because we were really excited about the market tour and did not realize that it was closed on Sunday so we couldn't enjoy that part of the experience.

Highly recommended

Fun cooking class!

Jessi_T, Aug 2026
We loved the interactive cooking class! The class started at the market where we saw all the ingredients purchased fresh for the paella. We then went back to the classroom and had sangria and tapas while participating in the cooking process. We ended the class with a giant plate of paella. Would recommend!

Chef Luca made the experience so special. From the meeting point, we walked a short distance to the market that was unbelievable and so special. We then headed to a private space where he already had prepared sangria, tapas and the prep area for us to join him in cooking the paella. We had a small group of eight, strangers at first then friends by the end. I highly recommend this experience to make your stay in Barcelona extraordinary.

Excellent class

Gillian_L, Aug 2026
Excellent paella. Very good mood in the group. Easy to understand class and replicable recipe. A nice experience overall.

Unsatisfied

Mellody_P, Aug 2026
We didn’t get what the description gave as our experience. It said we’d be learning to make tapas and sangria and cooking. We did not learn tapas or sangria. Also we walked to the market with the chef where he did the purchasing. He was knowledgeable about the history. But when we got to the kitchen, the guests were able to help prepare the ingredients but we did not cook anything. Which was the point of the class for me. We also had roaches on our table when we went back to sit down. Also, several guests were late to the class so we started 30 minutes late, and some of those same guests wandered off at the market and we had to wait. This was not supposed to be a restaurant experience but a learning experience.

This experience was a 10/10 all around. You get to go through the Boqueria market & see all the amazing vendors. The cooking class itself was an immersive experience, and you get to meet cool people along the way. The food is authentic, and it was the best paella I had in Spain.

Best Experience Ever!

Shaniya_P, Jul 2026
Chef Kako was phenomenal!! He was a true wealth of knowledge with an amazing touch of charm. I would highly recommend this experience. Best paella I’ve ever had and the secret ingredient was the icing on the cake. The trip to the market made us feel like we were in a movie 😍. 15/10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love this experience!

Kenneth_M, Jul 2026
This class was so much fun. We started at the market which was very hot but I loved that we went. The chef was entertaining and informative. The group of people were amazing and we made friends which made the experience so much more meaningful. Food was good, wine was great! Would debit act!

Very, very, very good.

Anatoliy_L, Jul 2026
Very good. Everything was explained in details. Hands on experience. Food was delicious. In addition to great recipes we got a small history lessons on the neighborhoods that we passed to the market and back.

Not hands on experience

Sawako_F, Jul 2026
I joined this cooking class with my older daughter, looking forward to a hands-on experience where we could learn how to prepare traditional tapas together. Unfortunately, the experience did not quite meet our expectations. One of the main reasons we booked the class was to actively participate in the cooking, but much of the session involved watching rather than doing. Most participants had little or no opportunity to use cooking utensils or prepare ingredients themselves. The chef prepared the dishes quite quickly, and while it was interesting to see the finished results, there was limited explanation of the techniques, ingredients, or cooking methods, so we did not come away feeling that we had learned much about how to recreate the dishes at home. The market visit was also less engaging than we had anticipated. Rather than receiving much information about the market, its history, or the local produce, we were largely left to explore on our own for around 20 minutes. We had hoped for more insight into Barcelona's food culture and the role the market plays in it. In addition, it was sometimes difficult to hear the guide, and at times it was hard to see what was being demonstrated. We also felt that questions from participants were not always encouraged as warmly as we had expected. The food we tasted was enjoyable, and I appreciate the effort that goes into running these experiences. However, I think the description should better reflect the level of participation involved. Travellers seeking a truly hands-on cooking class with detailed instruction may find that this experience differs from their expectations. I hope this feedback is helpful both to future visitors and to the organisers, as the class has the potential to be much more engaging with a greater emphasis on participation and teaching.

Only 12 people in the class. We were able to choose how we wanted to participate - cutting veggies or prepping the mussels/shrimp. The chef took us through the steps with lots of detail and passion. We also learned how to make sangria. The result was lovely paella that will make it hard to compare to future paellas - so delicious that it makes me want to not order from other places with the fear of being disappointed. A lovely experience overall.
