Top Trieste Port Transfers

.We are not fans of tours that are more than 6 hours, but this was well worth. We arrived at the caves (dress warm) and took a train deep into the cave. The stalactite and stalagmites were breathtaking especially when you hear how long they take to grow. After we went to the castle which was built into the mountain and had cave access. While we didn’t enter the cave through the castle the guided audio tour explained how it was an escape route for the inhabitants. Our guide shared bits of information on the drive to/fro which was interesting. For those looking to see both plan more time for the cave and less for the castle. Also, there’s a good amount of walking up/down inside the cave so wear comfortable shoes and again dress warm.

We were picked up at the industrial port in Trieste. Van was nice and large enough. We had to stop to pick up some other guests then visited Koper. Not a whole lot there-town square with some older buildings. Then we were driven to Piran-a seaside Slovenian town. Included in our ticket was a tasting of wine and some bread, fish, and cheese. Our guide told us interesting I information about the area and gave us clear instructions to meet after a guided tour. We climbed high up to the church for an amazing view. We changed our number from 15 to 12 and notified far in advance, but tour company wouldn’t change our Price. People were added to our excursion so we didn’t have extra room or anything. So if you have any changes, I guess I’d cancel and rebook to get the number of people and correct price.

The pickup was stressful. 9 am came and went and no driver. We were one of the last people left from our ship waiting for a ride. On the way to Venice there was little to no conversation with the driver, but he was on the phone either making or receiving calls. There was also an issue with the driver as to who our contact was in Venice. I had a hard time understanding what he was looking for and it took me a while to find what he was looking for in my correspondence about this trip. I assumed he would have been told beforehand who we were supposed to meet in Venice. As I said, very stressful. Once we got to Venice, Adair took over and walked us to our hotel and got us settled. My husband had unfortunately left his backpack on the water taxi and she coordinated with the driver to meet somewhere to retrieve it. She took us on a great orientation tour of the city. Steered us to a great restaurant for a snack and sat with us at the end of the tour to recommend restaurants and things to see and do for the rest of our journey in Venice
