What are people saying about Samarkand

Kelly_M, Oct 2026
Semi private and simple
This was a good experience and no frills ways to see the seven lakes. Both drivers were very good and friendly. The main tour guide on the Tajik side provided simple explanations of the lakes and answered all questions. The lunch stop on the way back was very nice and offered a choice of Plov or soup. Overall, it was a nice day and an easy way to explore this area of Tajikistan. 3 people in our group total. No big vans or bus, and it was a small group

This is the one to book
This tour is an absolute must…do not skimp, do the all inclusive with lunch. I had a fantastic day with Amin. First, Amin is a really great guide who is extremely knowledgeable. Second, you’re able to efficiently see all the major sites by going on Amin’s route (and his ability to park close to everything). Third, we had a fabulous lunch where Amin even explained why the Samarkand plov is different than the Tashkent-style I’m used to. This is well worth the money and I wouldn’t hesitate to book this tour again (or one of his others) next time I’m in Uzbekistan.

Absolutely recommend it!
A must do activity if you are in Samarkand, the drive can be long and crossing the border takes some time but its really easy to be honest. The lakes themselves are beautiful but the real magic is the mountains, such a beautiful scenery and wonderful experience. PS if you don't want to stop at the Bazar I recommend skipping that, not different from other markets in the area and it takes about an hour.

Great guide and great tour
Participated in Shakhrisabz's day tour, the guide provided a complete introduction to the history and religion, and I was able to gain more insights from the locals. You can bring some snacks with you in case lunch is delayed. The restaurant chosen by the lunch guide was also very good. Ordering on the official website can get you a better price, it's more cost-effective than chartering a car.
