About 40 minutes from Tokyo, enjoy a relaxing indigo dyeing experience in a quiet, green setting. Meet your guide and travel together to Ikuta Ryokuchi. At the Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop inside the park(Dento Kogeikan), join a hands-on indigo dyeing workshop using natural Japanese indigo. You will dye the item selected at booking and create your own unique pattern. Please note that dyeing personal items such as T-shirts or bags is not permitted. A local instructor explains each step, with English interpretation provided by your guide, making it easy for beginners. The workshop lasts about 1.5 hours. Take your finished piece home as a special souvenir from Japan. Afterward, you may return to the station with your guide or explore the nearby Japan Open Air House Museum, featuring 25 designated historic houses. Notes: Indigo dye has a natural scent. Enoshima is often used as the setting for movies and various other productions, and is a popular spot visited by many tourists from Japan and abroad throughout the year. Eshima Shrine is famous as the god of marriage, entertainment, music, and wisdom, and there are many gourmet foods and souvenirs to be had on the way there. The Enoshima Iwaya, located in the southwest of the island, is a cave that was formed about 6,000 years ago by waves carving out rocks in the sea, and was shaped into its present form when an earthquake caused the entire island to rise! Enoshima is also said to have been once inhabited by dragons, and you can see the image of dragons in various places, such as shrines and rock houses. You can even hold a candle and walk through the caves, which will make you feel as if you are actually on an adventure. Note: There are many hills and stairs on this tour. William Adams received a fiefdom from the Shogun, becoming Japan's sole foreign feudal lord. We visit sites in Hemi on the Miura Peninsula – his former domain – that evoke his life, work, character, and family relationships. The location is close to Yokosuka Main Port, the entrance from the Pacific Ocean into Tokyo Bay, a key defensive location for Edo. Visit to Jōdoji Temple, his familial temple which was the centre of his Hemi territory. We visit also Kashima Shrine next to Jodoji Temple, one rebuilt by the son of William Adams. Hike for just over 20 minutes towards Tsukayama Park. We view Tokyo Bay and the Bōsō Peninsula opposite, gaining an understanding of Shogun’s strategy. Visit to the graves of William Adams and his wife, discussing his work across two bases: Edo and Hemi on the Miura Peninsula.
