What are people saying about Guatemala

Nice hike, something you cannot experience every day
It’s really not that hard if you’re normally fit (so if you’re younger and not an american, go for it). Tour guides Leo and Eric were friendly, cheerful, and always ready to help. The company provided all the details at the start of the tour, everything was as described. Going to Fuego during the night is a really good experience. Only thing is that there’s a 10% surcharge for card payments, but that’s normal in Guatemala. Don’t expect any luxury up in the base camp, be aware what are you signing up for- the agency was open and clear about this, and the guides repeated it multiple times. It’s worth it.

A true coffee education
This is totally worth the time and money. You hear directly from a family coffee grower and get a sense of what it is like to live in Guatemala and be a coffee grower. Our grower was Alejandro, who was an absolute delight to learn from. He exuded the pride and passion for his work. After he showed his some of his land and plants and talked us through the growing process, he brought us into his home where he and his wife freshly roasted beans and served us a traditional cup of coffee with a champurrada. I’m so grateful to have had this experience and learn from Alejandro, it makes me appreciate each cup of coffee a lot more. I have a better understanding of what it takes to make each cup and how small coffee growers are directly impacted.

We enjoyed ourselves much...
We enjoyed ourselves much more than we expected to! The two hours went by quickly as we learned about the process of making chocolate, and we also got to make our own bar to take home with us! Our guide, Diane, was great; she kept us informed and entertained. Glad we went!

The guides were helpful...
The guides were helpful and professional. They set a good pace and accommodated the different levels of our group. They keep the groups small which is nice. Accommodations are modest, but I don’t think the type of cabin you stay in on Acentenango makes much of a difference at the end of the day. We got a sleeping bag and small pillow. Lunch was chicken, rice, and vegetables, dinner was pasta with meat sauce, and breakfast was pancakes with oatmeal. They also had hot chocolate, tea, and marshmallows. I would recommend this company.
