There are only a handful of bioluminescence or bioluminescent bays in the Caribbean, and not many more than that in the world. They only occur in certain places because they only happen naturally under very specific conditions. The water in Bio Bay is very warm and salty with an abundance of nutrients and seagrass, the perfect environment for special microscopic plankton. These plankton occur all over the island, and all over the Caribbean, but the concentration we find in Bio Bay is what makes for a fantastic experience. Because of these plankton “bioluminescence,” it produces a very short burst of light when stimulated by movement. The Bio Bay is best viewed by floating in the water. With snorkeling gear, you’ll float in this magical bay mesmerized as your movements create trails of light in the water. This shimmering light show is awesome, and if the timing and conditions are right, you might even see the mating glow worms which occur two to three days after the full moon.

This experience was amazing. Jordan was the very best guide! He was wonderful with our 3 kids under 5 and told us all about the area. The boat ride was so much fun, we cranked up “Under the Sea” and “I am Moans” on the Bluetooth. We saw the beautiful sunset from the boat ! We were amazed at the Bioluminescent Bay and the water show from the plankton. The 3 year old made the glowing water shoot out like Elsa did in the movie Frozen. I highly recommend booking the tour! Our family of six had such a great time and it was definitely our favorite day of our trip. We visited starfish Beach, went snorkeling, hung out with the stingrays, had dinner at rum point, and visited bio Bay. Our guide was James. He was highly knowledgeable and you could tell passionate about the wildlife. He was wonderful with my kiddos and really helped make the day memorable for each of us. Fun in the Sun!

Here’s your updated review with that added smoothly: ⸻ We had an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The boat itself is a 24-foot bow rider—perfect for a fun, comfortable private outing. It has a small stern ladder that makes getting in and out of the water easy, especially for swimming and snorkeling stops. Captain Dean (definitely request him!) was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and very laid back. He made the whole trip feel relaxed while still being informative and engaging. You can tell he really knows the area and takes pride in giving guests a great experience. They provided everything we needed: bottled water, soft drinks, flotation vests, and snorkeling gear—super convenient and well-organized. We met in West Bay and visited Starfish Point, Stingray City, and a beautiful reef for snorkeling. The entire trip was private for our group of six (including two kids), which made a huge difference. We specifically wanted to avoid the crowds, and this was absolutely the way to do it—no rush, no chaos, just a fun and memorable family experience. The trip lasted a little over 4 hours, which was perfect, but they were very flexible—if you want more time, just ask. Omar handled all the communication and was excellent throughout. He stayed in touch leading up to the trip and even helped reschedule to avoid bad weather, which we really appreciated. One extra tip—if you’re staying on the East End (Rum Point area), you can request pickup and drop-off there. It’s a great option that saves you from having to drive all the way to West Bay. All in all, a 5/5 experience. Highly recommend, and we would absolutely book with them again.

Wonderful day on the water!

We had an amazing time on this excurison. Our capitan/guide was incredibly knowledgeable and funny. Our group ranged in age from 1-62 and everyone enjoyed it. Top notch Stingray Guides

Stingrays in Cayman Islands are of a variety that are highly unlikely to sting. I was concerned about that but, was assured it would be quite rare for this to happen with the Cayman Island variety of Stingray. With that said, I was very comfortable feeding the Stingrays and holding them. Our two guides were superb. They gently wrangled up a few Stingrays for my daughter and I to feed, hold and even give a brief kiss. A Super experience that would not have been even close to as good without our fantatic guides comfort level with the Stingrays. A lifetime memory with my daughter was created. At 15yo, she gave the experience a 10/10

You should do this!

My husband and I loved this excursion. The ship ported at an alternate site due to weather and they were able to adjust the pick-up. The seas were rough but the operator made sure to drive ahead of me to cut down on the riugh surf.. We stopped at the sting rays and was able to feed and get some photo ops and then a beach club before heading back. Great time!

Must Do!

Our family went to the Cayman Islands with two other families, we were a total of 11 people and we booked this excursion. We had a great time! Erick and Nate were amazing.
