During this 6-hour tour, your guide will take you through the different stages of the Battle of the Somme; looking at the strategic aspect, its consequences, the human cost, the impact of the war on people and landscape, and much more! This tour covers the sites where the Australians fought in the Somme in WW1: from the 1916 battle of Pozieres to Villers-Bretonneux where the Germans were halted in 1918. A great immersion into Australian history with an expert guide, each tour is a unique experience. All our tours are Private and/or personalised with a maximum of 7 passengers.

Spend a day exploring the war-scarred landscape of Vimy and its surrounding areas on this private tour from Arras or Albert. Pay your respects at the Canadian Memorial and see the resting place of thousands of soldiers. Walk through preserved trenches to gain a deeper understanding of wartime conditions, and learn more about the Battle of the Somme with a visit to the 330 ft (100 meter) wide Lochnagar Crater.

After meeting your guide you head first to Villers-Bretonneux and spend the morning uncovering the history of the Australian force in the dark days of the 1918 German Spring Offensive. After lunch, we move on to the Battle of the Somme. From trenches to memorials we will guide you through the planning and execution of this infamous campaign. 2026 will mark the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme,one of the largest and bloodiest offensives of the First World War. This battle lasted 4 and a half months resulting in 420 000 casualties in the British army, among them 360,000 were from the British Isles. To honour their memory, Get-a-guide is offering a “Taylor-made tour”. If you had a British relative who fought during this terrible battle; we will be pleased to research his service and design a full-day tour going in his footsteps. This includes visits to the major First World War sites in the Somme; such “Lochnagar Crater”, Thiepval Memorial of the missing and Newfoundland Memorial Park. As this work takes time, the tour can only be booked between now and the end of March, before the busy guiding season begins.
