Nothing can compare with meeting and socializing with a local resident of the place you are visiting. However, having them invite you to their home, to learn to cook, while you get a chance to visit - is on another scale. Machiko and Daishi are educated, worldly, and very interested in meeting and visiting with their guests. We learned about Japanese cooking techniques and made dishes that we will be able to make at home. We got to visit and discuss many things about out cultures which broadened our appreciation and understanding of Japanese culture. They made us feel very welcome and special by serving our lunch on special lacquered trays that have been in their family for over 100 years. Do NOT miss this experience as it is truly unique!!!

    A wonderful experience

Great way to experience an authentic Japanese family encounter. Machiko-san and her family were welcoming, and the cooking experience was wonderful - we picked up lots of great tips we can apply at home. It all culminated in a delicious lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you!

    Authentic Family Cooking Experience

It is a great opportunity to connect and spend time with a Japanese family in their personal home. I would recommend this experience to anyone and everyone. Machiko spent time explaining the basis of Japanese cooking, what the foundational items are and walked us through making them ourselves. She made sure the experience was interactive by having us take part in the preparation and cooking of everything we ate. The meal was simple but fantastic.

    Best experience of our trip!!!

We are thrilled to hear how special your time with Machiko and Daishi was. Opening their home to share both food and culture is something they deeply enjoy, and it is wonderful that you felt so welcomed and connected. From learning Japanese cooking techniques to sharing conversations that deepened cultural understanding, it sounds like such a memorable day. Serving lunch on lacquered trays that have been in their family for generations is such a meaningful touch, and we are so glad it made your experience feel even more unique. Thank you for your thoughtful recommendation!

The experience of cooking with you was excellent—very enriching and fun. We learned a lot and left inspired to apply the techniques at home.

This was hands down one of our highlights of our Japan trip! Cooking, talking and eating with Machiko and her family was truly a once in a lifetime experience and we learned so much from her - not only how to make Okonomiyaki at home! Machiko is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome - thank you for inviting us to your home and giving us a ride afterwards! We wish we could give more than 5 stars and wish you all the best!

Our family had a great time. Home cooking (definitely not restaurant food - just as good but different stuff), got to talk to real people. I highly recommend!

Machiko and her family were very welcoming and we had a great time together with them. Machiko gave step-by-step instructions and explained things well. The food was very good and we can’t wait to try them when we get home. Thank you, again, Machiko for making such a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

A highlight of our trip + vegan-friendly class!

Wonderful class (four delicious vegetarian dishes!) and great conversation with Machiko and her husband. Bring a notebook if you want to record the recipes. We learned so much. After weeks of restaurants and hotels, it was great to be welcomed into a warm home.
