The Good:
The driver and guide arrived on time to pick me up at my hotel. Communication was made easy via WhatsApp and the guide conducted the tour in perfect English. He was knowledgeable about history and took his time to explain and answer questions. He was always very pleasant and so was the driver. A good car, water was provided, safe driving and comfortable ride. A necessary tour when in Cairo!
The Bad:
Before getting on the shuttle buses to the pyramid area, there is a hall with lots of great information. I feel this part was rushed. I would suggest leaving time for the tourist to look around and take in the information, read the signs, etc. It is too important a part of history to be rushed that way.
The company has its preferred vendors among the camel ride providers and souvenir people. And that’s okay, except it should be so the client doesn’t get scammed and not the opposite. When I tried to go to a vendor of my choice to get a couple things, the guide prevented me from doing so under the pretense that they have their own vendor they work with for better discounts: the discount turned out to be the regular price multiplied by at least 25! That’s ridiculous.
The Ugly: this is the part I dislike the most because it reminded me of the same scheme in Marrakech with guides and the infamous « women cooperative of argan oil » that’s nothing but another way to scam people out of money with outrageous prices. The guide took me to the papyrus and oil company. This is a pressure selling venue. They will hook you up with a local rep and that person will deploy Jehovah witness level marketing and selling pressure on you. Frankly it turned me all the way off and I actually cancelled all the tours I booked when I got home because I didn’t come on vacation to face that type of harassing behavior. This should not be part of the tours. We don’t pay money to become pawns or targets. Also, there was pressure to write a five star review right away by QR code which I didn’t appreciate. Let me do what I want in my own time. No need to pressure anyone, just do right by the customer and they will write the review you deserve.
Viator should be more careful with the selling scams that are integrated in these tours. This left a bad taste in my mouth on day two of my trip and discouraged me from taking anymore tours. I’m exploring what I can in my own. Nobody goes on vacation to experience stress. 🙄

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We truly appreciate both your positive comments and your honest concerns.
First, we’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed the professionalism of your guide and driver, the comfort of the car, and the overall experience of the tour. Providing a safe, informative, and enjoyable visit to Cairo is always our top priority, so your kind words mean a lot to us.
At the same time, we sincerely apologize for the parts of the experience that did not meet your expectations.
Regarding the visit inside the information hall before entering the pyramid area, your point is completely valid. This is indeed an important historical introduction, and we will make sure to review the timing with our team to allow guests more time to explore it at their own pace.
Concerning the shopping stops, we would like to clarify that our intention is always to guide guests toward trusted places to avoid common tourist scams. However, we fully respect that guests should feel free to choose where they shop. What you described does not reflect the experience we aim to provide, and we will address this internally to ensure more flexibility and transparency moving forward.
As for the papyrus and oil visit, we understand how this may have felt like a pressured sales environment. These stops are meant to introduce local crafts and culture, but they should always remain optional and comfortable for our guests. We are very sorry that this part made you feel uncomfortable, and we will take immediate steps to better control how these visits are presented.
Regarding the request for a review, we completely agree with you. Guests should never feel pressured to leave feedback. Reviews should always come naturally, based on genuine experience. We will reinforce this policy with our team.
Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, and it helps us improve and maintain the quality we strive for. We truly regret that parts of your experience led you to cancel other tours, and we hope to have the opportunity to restore your trust in the future.
Thank you again for your honesty and for choosing us during your visit to Cairo.
Warm regards,
Alaa elsayed

My guide Ali was an absolute gentleman and really went out of his way to accommodate me the entire tour and beyond. He was very knowledgable and a smart young man. I had a problem with my bank card while I was ending tour and he had no problem waiting for me to straighten it all out. I was picked up and dropped off at my hotel which was out of the way but the driver was very relaxed and did a great job navigating to hectic traffic. They worked very well as a team. As a solo traveler I felt very safe while on tour with Ali and I highly recommend he and his team.

The tour was okay, compared to the other costs in Cairo of course high priced. But car, driver Omar and guide Ali were very neat and correct.
The detour to papyrus and perfume sales was of course unnecessary.
In fairness, you have to say that you are not pushed to buy.

Booking not fulfilled. A German guidebook was booked. Less than 24 hours I was “informed” that it would be an English speaking guidebook. This is of course nonsense with children who do not speak English. That's why booking a German travel guide in advance:)!
Due to less than 24 hours we could not cancel. Now trouble and emails with the organizer for money back. We just wanted to enjoy our holiday.
And also annoyance that we had to organize a new tour overnight with another provider. Here, too, time and money loss. We will no longer book through Viator.

Antwort von Guide Of Egypt Tours:
