The Welwitschia plant, often reffered to as a "living fossil", is the only genus of the family Welwitschiaceae and order Welwitschiales, in the devision Gnetophyta. Welwitschia Marbilis is endemic to the Namid Desert. This plant only has two leaves, these leaves never stop growing and are the only leaves that this plant will ever bear. Don’t miss the experience

Great tour with Wild Space! Pick up at port right on time then off to see flamingos, salt mine and the dunes. The dunes are huge, amazing and driving up, down and around them was awesome. We were able to spot some wildlife along the way. Delicious lunch too. Guide was knowledgeable and helpful.

A personal tour with...

A personal tour with another couple and the guide. Interesting journey to the town on excellent roads through dunes area. The town has some fascinating old buildings and also a surprising number of luxury shops. On the way back we visited the salt pans and saw flamingos in the distance and a couple of pelicans by the side of the road. The guide was very informative and personable.

Fabulous Day

An interesting journey along the Walvis Bay coastline,stopping at view points. Some flamingos seen. Then into the Namib desert. A great ride up and down steep dunes. Our driver, Roger, was a careful and experienced guide. Stops to view whales and dolphins. An excellent lunch from another viewpoint. A great day well organised throughout. It will be remembered. Great adventure into the oldest desert

Unusual and great experience in the world’s oldest desert. Our guide Leon gave us insight into this vast place. He opened my eyes to the different types of deserts and what made everything look the way it does. It was great to stop in several places and really feel the ground and the atmosphere. Lunch and snack were excellent. We saw ostriches, ground squirrels and springbok. It’s a truly unique day.

Full day Sandwich Harbour

A wonderful day travelling along the beach and into the Sandwich Harbour and dunes, with great guide. For those arriving by cruise ship, the guide, Uwe, met us harborside. We drove out of Walvis Bay stopping to see flamingos, pelicans and the salt lakes. We continued along the beach and up into the sand dunes, stopping at a number of incredible viewpoints. Along the beach we saw lots of cormorants and seals. In the dunes, Uwe pointed out the tracks of hyenas. He suggested we take off our shoes to enjoy the feeling of sand between our toes. He dropped us off at the top of the dunes and we climbed/slid down barefoot. We stopped for drinks and lunch, a selection of meats, samosas, cheese with cake and sweet deserts, very enjoyable. On our return route, we drove through the bush where we saw Oryx and Springboks. Returning to Walvis Bay, we stopped again the see the pelicans and flamingos and also saw a jackal wandering along the beach, searching for mussels etc. Uwe was very knowledgeable and we had a great day out with him. Highly recommend this trip.

Awesome dunes adventure

Can’t recommend enough.Communication from the tour operator 10 out of 10.Pickup perfectly planned and on time.Tour guide “Gift” was awesome with great knowledge and driving skills within the dunes park.My wife is wheelchair bound and this was not an issue at all.Got to see some great wildlife as well, with a well presented picnic in the middle of the tour.

Fantastic Tour

This is a unique and fantastic tour, which you should not miss, when you are around Walvis Bay. The landscape and animals are great! We even saw whales from the car and the beach, where our tasty picnic took place. Our guide was very knowledgeable, could answer all our questions. He really turned this tour into something special for us. Best tour ever!!!
