The best experience I had in Penang

Where to start? Everything about this experience was fantastic. Mr. Mok and Mrs. Amy are just wonderful hosts. The Chowrasta market tour was great and I learned so much. Mr Mok seems to know everyone and the vibes were just great. His enthusiasm for all things Penang is incredible. Both Mok and Amy provided so much insight into Penang history and Perenakan culture. The class ran very smoothly with the help of another kind assistant and there was always consideration and tips given for how to best recreate things back in our home countries. I left feeling enlightened, enriched and with a full belly AND left overs to boot! I cannot recommend this highly enough! Thank you both to Mr Mok and Mrs Amy for such a wonderful day

Great day experiencing Penang cultural wonders!

Mr Joey was a fantastic driver - arrived on time, clean car, very hospitable to show us around beautiful Penang in particular the Kek Lok Si Temple followed by a lovely local lunch at a local hawker stall. En route home we visited the local Batik Factory - the management team showing exactly how they are made by hand. Finishing the day with coffee and cake to celebrate my birthday ... what a wonderful day that we will remember for a long time. Amanda & Andrew

Great way to see orangutans and Penang old city.

Peggy our tour guide was excellent. She explained how the day would go before we left and kept the information going throughout the tour. The orangutans were fabulous. Their in house staff were fantastic explaining what they were doing for the orangutans on the island. Penny brought along food and drinks so we could feed the orangutans. We then went back to Penang for a tour of the Jetties and the old town. Can definitely recommend this tour.

We booked this tour after doing a similar back of a bike experience in Saigon. It did not disappoint! Jacky and Din were absolutely fantastic. Super experienced riders who took us to local spots and made sure we got to enjoy food like a Penang local. Highly recommend, especially for a first night in Penang/George Town, to try the local cuisine.

Great tour experience with Eng

Eng picked us up punctually as arranged to a great start for our day of exploring Penang. He provided us an itinerary before we set off but offered to make any changes we wanted which we did. Eng was energetic & enthusiastic to make our experience enjoyable. He added a lot of colour to the sights & we learned a lot of interesting insights about Penang & the places we visited. We wanted to eat certain Penang favourites and he kindly took us around to do that. A very pleasant surprise was Eng taking the initiative & volunteering to take pictures of us at the various sights. His driving was smooth & careful and he was generous in sharing tips for our trip.

The boat departure point for the island is Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, which was about an hour's drive away from Georgetown (from being picked up at 8am). The boat runs on a schedule so we did have to wait about half an hour once we arrived at the departure point, but that time was easily filled by going into the small visitor centre they have there. The boat ride is only a few minutes and you get about an hour on the island itself. A resident warden/guide took us around, telling us stories about the Orang-utans and the conservation work. Our guide Ronnie also accompanied us, he tried to entice the animals nearer with fruit bribes! - he is an experienced guide and knows the individual Orang-utans and their personalities. This was an amazing trip, well worth doing. Ronnie in particular was a great guide, we learnt a lot from him during the trip about Penang and Malaysia in general, not just about the Orang-utans. Highly recommended. Also recommend that you take some mosquito/insect spray with you!

Ken, our tour guide was welcoming, engaging, knowledgeable, empathetic and was attuned to each of the needs of the participants and also was very aware of each of our tolerance for spicy food! We also loved that he was real and honest when answering our questions about the Malaysian context and history. The food itself was 1000% on point - it was flavourful, varied and what this tour showcased was a great glimpse into Malaysia’s incredible cuisine!
