This isn't a cooking class in a restaurant or a professional kitchen. You're invited into our family home in Douz, where my mother will share how she prepares traditional Tunisian couscous for our family. You'll cook alongside her, discover the ingredients and spices used in our everyday cooking, and learn the little tips that are usually passed down within families. It's a relaxed, personal experience with time to ask questions, share stories, and get a glimpse of everyday life in southern Tunisia. After cooking, we'll enjoy the couscous together, just as we would at home. Our home also has a garden with palm trees, adding to the atmosphere of this family experience.

Head into the Sahara on this 4x4 day trip from Douz to the Ksar Ghilane oasis. The adventure starts the moment you leave town, your driver-guide takes you across sand tracks and rolling dunes, with wide-open desert scenery and photo stops along the way. Arrive around 11 AM after roughly three hours, visit the Roman Fort of Tisavar near the oasis, then explore the green palm grove with its cafes and small restaurants. Swim in the natural thermal hot spring and enjoy free time to walk around. Lunch is not included, but you can eat at a local restaurant at your own expense. The return route keeps the adventure going, crossing the desert again as you leave Ksar Ghilane around 4 PM and reach Douz around 6 PM. Trade the town for the deep Sahara on an overnight 4x4 expedition from Douz to Tembaine, the mountain the Berber call "the mountain seen from afar". Two and a half hours across the dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental bring you to Tiniri Camp, where you can sandboard the soft slopes before the sun drops. Watch sunset turn the whole erg gold from the top of the dunes, then gather around a large campfire for bread baked in the hot sand, a mixed traditional dinner and a sky thick with stars. Sleep in a comfortable desert tent and wake for sunrise over the dunes before breakfast and the drive back to Douz.
