Our experienced instructor will teach you with kind and understandable explanation. The world of calligraphy drawn with a brush and ink is limitless. You will experience the importance of writing letters with all your heart and the depth and the possibilities of calligraphy. Feeling Ryukyuan Dance in the Tea Room Ryukyuan Dance was developed during the Ryukyu Kingdom era to welcome and entertain the Chinese emperor's envoys (Sappoushi, representative of the Chinese emperor). Dancers enter from the left side and perform in the center of the stage. The themes are life, love, and celebration of a bountiful harvest. The beautiful costumes and props are also worth seeing. In September 2009, for its richness and prestige, Ryukyuan Dance was designated as a National Important Intangible Cultural Property. Enjoy the special time of appreciating beautiful dance as well as the sanshin music in the authentic tea room.

You will experience three Japanese traditional cultures - Tea Ceremony, Flower Arrangement, and Calligraphy - in one day. SASAGIRIAN is the only facility where you can experience all of these three Japanese cultures in one place and in one day in Okinawa. You will learn the history and manners of each culture from our experienced instructors. By wearing a simple kimono, you will write Japanese letters with a Japanese brush, have Japanese and Okinawan sweets and make macha green tea, and finally arrange tropical flowers and plants. Join a hands-on cultural experience where you'll make chinsuko, a traditional Okinawan sweet, and roast hojicha (roasted green tea), both using ingredients sourced entirely from Okinawa. Create and taste chinsuko (with some to take home), made with Okinawan flour, sugar, and lard. Roast and enjoy hojicha using local tea leaves. This experience is hosted by a local restaurant owner and offers a delicious introduction to Okinawan sweets and tea culture. Chinsuko is known for its light, crunchy texture and mild sweetness—an island favorite for generations.
